Her books don't give off a nice aura to me really...I pick up her books but then I just put them straight back on the shelf because I just can't stand the aura coming off the books.

You mean $ilver Ravenwolf?
1. What a ridiculous "Wiccan name," IMO. Now everyone who hears of her will want to have a name like that. Oh wait... so many already do rolleyes 2. Hinted by how I spelled her name above, she puts out so many books and stuff because, let's face it, she's probably in it for the money. 3. She contradicts herself a whole bunch in her own books. She preaches love and understanding, yet shuns Christianity a few pages later? Not my thing.
Unless someone has anything better to say, since there is another thread already about book recommendations, I will be deleting this thread =3

There wasn''t a poll option ''yes and no'' so I guess I have to post, huh?
The literature in that section of the book house is filled with misinformation and bad scholarship. Ravenwolf is no exception to that, but she isn''t alone in that. Most of the books fail to provide a good scholarly perspective on Neopaganism. They also fail to dive into the deeper philosophies implied by persuing a Neopagan path. So I don''t rag on Ravenwolf that much. Her brand of Wicca is greatly modified by New Age ideas and is very different from traditional Wicca. So long as people are aware of the difference, I don''t see anything wrong with following her brand. What''s important is to know where she has her historical inaccuracies along with many other Pagan authors. To do THAT you have to get out of the New Age section and into your local college/university library. sweatdrop

Although I can't say that I adore the author, I've found her "ultimate book of shadows" to have given a small, introduction to several different forms of magic, which was how totem magic initially caught my eye. Of course, I'm not going to depend nor trust wholeheartedly every thought she conveys in that book, she at least seemed to defend "Mary Magdalene," if nothing else of the Christian faith, and gives a lot of detail on angel magic. Wait, maybe that just rolls back to her penchant for contradiction. rolleyes sweatdrop

I find, that I am none to fond of Silver Ravenwolf. In reading one of her books, you are bound to find some contradictions, as well as - dare I say - bold faced lies (at least mistruths).
Personally, I find Scott Cunningham a much better author, if you want to learn about solitary wicca.
Though, if you really want to find out about wicca, join a coven, with a lineage back to Gardner.

Well, I have read, two books by her I think... To ride a Silver Broomstick, and another one, I think its called Teen Witch. When I read them, I just kinda got the feeling of whatever from them. I mean I don't know the whole truth to things, but some of her books are more... playful than other ones I have read. As if she just jokes about the religion. Maybe that's just her.. But I dont know.
Oh, And QuinnShanklin, in case your wondering, Is my boyfreind. The one I said is Wiccan. ^^

i have several of her books... i think that she''s a good start, even if she has a bad approach on some things. for me, it didn''t hurt. it takes someone with a brain to pick out the bad from the book... it''s like filtering dirty water, some people aren''t smart enough to do so, but others that are can easily drink it and be healthy.
also, i''d say that she writes for a growing group: the christians that fall out of christianity for reasons like hypocrisy, lack of faith, or just plain problems in their church... she''s writing for people who may hold a grudge, though that''s not good... but it''s the way life works, and she writes for those who need it.
i personally didn''t have any problems with her methods. i realize her history was off, but look at it this way: are most new wiccans trying to study the history of the craft? no. so her mistakes usually don''t affect wiccans until years later (if they refuse to read anyone else).

*Laughs at the complete disregard for the two posts saying to leave this be* Just for the hell of it, I'll add my 2 cents..x3 Like eko and a few others said, Silver can be somewhat useful in a few things, but you had better be prepared to deal with a buncha phooey before finding anything decent. She does seem to use a tad too much humor...And yes, contradictions galore pepper the pages of her books.
But, hell, if ya have a few-or fourteen..-extra bucks and want a laugh, go on and buy one'a her books. mrgreen
