I hate how the hair at the bottom of the print is super blurry and not beleivable. In actuallity you can see its just the thinnest linework of the whole comp... but it blurs in every photo i take of it. mad

India Ink with Galkyd and charcoal on BFK. "Transcending into Subconsciousness" 2007
I guess I'm just looking for a commentary on this. I don't know how i feel about it because its one of the dirtiest and most spontanious drawings I have ever done. I've done several like this after I made this one, but none of them even look anything like this. uhg. frustrating.

"Hair Metal" was my favorite piece in your gallery. Your drawing skills don't show through as well in some of your other pieces - not even in "The Golden Calf", for instance.

As for "Transcending into Subconsciousness". I, like Mirenes, usually am not a big fan of this kind of work - though in recent years I have become a lot more open to it because I am less of a retard than I was three years ago.

I really like this. There is a spot where the black lines sort of drip into finger-form and I can't tell if this is a feature of the piece I like or dislike. Somehow, having to think about whether I like it or not - or, in a sense, finding it disconcerting that it is there - makes me like it more. Are you considering selling this?

Before I forget: RE: "The Golden Calf". Are these the members of a heavy/death metal band burning down a church ala A Sentence of Sorts in Kongsvinger? The silhouette of what look to be spiked bracers on one of the figures made me wonder about that. The title implies that that isn't at all what is happening, but I'm curious. surprised

I personally feel the way the car is drawn detracts from the piece; I understand that it is sort of a simplistic silhouette, but instead of 'simplistic' it comes off as misshapen or lazily drawn. The figures are better, but perhaps if they were a bit more dynamic in their posing it would be more energetic.

It's a very delicate procedure. I can only advise you not to smash your head against hard objects, as it makes the likelihood of becoming less of a retard significantly lower.

In the case that you are asking because you find the term 'retard' offensive, I do not know what to tell you!

Its the band Emperor... the stereotypical imagery of the black metal church burnings in Norweigh circa early-mid 90s. Although they were not a part of the church burnings.. all black metal bands were concidered pro burning down/demolishing christianity when it was just directed towards the lutherin faith by norweigian nationalists.. The Lutherans historically bred out and converted the native viking culture to a more (what Europeans thought) sophicticated nature... but in actuality then the assimilation was complete, the culture took a step backwards in not only technology but in cultural identity and the ways of the vikings were prettymuch lost forever. and this is why the nationalists have a lot of resentment towards christian faith in norweigh. The imagery is ironic in conjunction with the title b/c like the christian metaphore of worshiping the "golden calf", teenagers in the US worshop artists of this genre b/c they thing they are ballin badasses burning down churches and worshoping satan.. when in fact these guys just look like monsters b/c of what two bands did for the sake of preserving their countrie's heritage. Its a prettydense concept, i know.
i wont go on to explain why the camero's in there, but i will say it basicly sums up the advent of rock and roll in the us.. and represents american culture.

The car looks like a pos b/c for the most part it is. It was a shotty attempt, but came out well for being so botched. unfortunately, there is no technique for erasing etched guidelines in etching.. except for etching more lines. :/

I never would have guessed the song I referenced was referring to an actual historical event. I have to do research into this, now. I guess this is what real art does.

You may have noticed that the majority of us are illustrators and other sorts of draftsmen, less so 'artists'. That makes your work especially refreshing (to me, anyway).
