On the edge of the town's main shopping district is a quaint, one story shop that Lexi had been renting to serve as an outlet for his bouts of obsessive crafting. The sign in the window said closed, but inside was well lit. Closest to the entry was a display case you would expect in a bakery, it had been emptied after a few hours. Further in were clothing racks that still had a hodgepodge of items on them, Lexi's sewing not matching his baking prowess. Finally, the rear of the shop had a few tables, one of which had the remaining few penguin carvings and paints. Lexi was up front, counting out the money he had earned that day. Worried that Miss Alyssa wasn't completely recovered from her illness, he had insisted that she come with him to the store that day lest she need anything. To keep her from overworking herself he had also stipulated that she bring no more than three books with her. "I am ready to leave when you are Lady Alyssa," Lexi said, jotting down the totals in the store's ledger and locking it in the drawer beneath the register.

Alyssa had grumbled, quite a bit actually, about the book limit. She couldn't really work with just three of them. What decent mage was expected to? But Lexi had insisted, and after a lot of protesting, she had relented. If it made him happy for now, fine. She had kind of wanted to see the shop anyway. And Lexi's company was probably the only company Alyssa could stand for any amount of time, so why not? Even if that did mean she had to work on a lesser project...(*Making pizza*) "Alright..." Alyssa murmured, mentally marking the page she was on. The other two books, large ones of some obscure language, had been read through already. The language was hard and Alyssa wasn't as knowledgeable in it, so it'd taken her longer than usual. A few pages of short notes was all she'd written, the rest retained. She closed the book, pulled the other two to her, and slid off her chair with them in hand. She needed to look at four others currently sitting in Lexi's room, and then she could leave the spell nice and finished. So something did get done today, however little.

"You are still feeling better?" Lexi asked, Alyssa, walking back to her, while holding out her coat. "I hope that you were not too bored today," he said apologetically. He didn't enjoy forcing her to do things, but her health was more important than her work. At least in his view.

Alyssa nodded, setting the books on a seat to put on her coat. "Thank you. And no...I was fine. Not very productive-" She gave an annoyed look, which faded rather quickly. "But not bored. I didn't mind being in the shop..." Blue eyes flicked around a moment, thoughtful. She picked up the books again. "It's an interesting kind of place..." She nodded, the faintest of smiles, which didn't happen often.

"You believe so?" Lexi asked, looking around. "Some of my costumers were a bit annoyed that I took some time off," he mused as we walked around, making sure the lockable cases were locked. "Shall we?" he asked, opening the door for Alyssa.

Alyssa walked outside, pondering. "Well, suppose they like it here too. I can see why they would be annoyed." She nods, blue eyes looking over the store from the outside again. ((Night or day?))

((Night))

Lexi nodded, pausing a moment to turn off the shop's lights and locking the door before joining Alyssa outside. "We should get back to the inn, Miss Alyssa," he said, worried about the temperature dropping too low.

"No argument from me..." Alyssa said, not minding the cold much, thinking about her books and the things she wants to look up. Alyssa blinked, glancing up to see the stars. She'd studied books about planetary movements, and of course, the star locations. She looks back to Lexi. "But there isn't a rush, unless you need to be there so quickly..." She didn't fancy a fast pace, carrying the three books and not one to want to dash through snow. "I'm not cold."

"No need to rush," Lexi said apologetically, following Alyssa's gaze. "I just don't want to take too long. There is a small chance of my joints freezing in this weather."

Blue eyes are widened slightly, looking over at him again. "...well, I think that'd be a reason to rush." She says, face impassive, but he might note she was watching him and pretending not to be. Apparently, that had concerned her mildly. She walks, a quick pace for one who was only four foot seven. "There are ways to fix that...I am certain." She said, almost to herself.

"They'll thaw out just fine, but I'm not the lightest of people," Lexi said, jokingly so as not to worry her. "I'll manage to be just fine if we avoid subzero temperatures," he said, looking down at her, but unable to smile comfortingly.

If he had been looking somewhere else, he would have noticed the dark robed men that slipped out of the alleys near them. By the time he looked up again, they were surrounded.

Alyssa smiles faintly despite herself. "Ah...suppose you wouldn't be, no." She said, nodding. Alyssa stops, arms around her books, no alarm on her face, just annoyance. She hadn't sensed magic. Expression darkens. "...in case you have not realized, we are attempting to return to our place of residence." She said calmly, so cool it was disturbing. Blue eyes are moving from each person, studying in turn. She did not like to be stopped. She was the daughter of a Queen after all. And a pretty short tempered one at that. "I would suggest you remove yourselves." This was laced with threat.

The burliest of the men smirked, but didn't say anything. Still, the others seemed to get the point as the twelve of them each flipped a knife out of somewhere on there bodies.

"I do not believe they mean to let us pass, Lady Alyssa," Lexi said, turning slowly to try and keep them all in his sights. Fighting this many physically would be difficult to do without Alyssa's aid, but he was unsure if she had the ability to cast so soon after her illness, and it was impossible for him to read from the small slip he kept a few useful spells on and his book was back at the inn.

Oh. Knives. Idiots. Alyssa might of explained to Lexi that yes, she quite understands that, but he wasn't trying to tell her the obvious on the purpose. It is Lexi after all. The girl stands fully erect, blue eyes narrowing slightly in annoyance at the smirk she glimpsed. "Valdori." She said softly, clear enough to form the strange word. She was using the snow. Simutaneuously, each man would find water rising to wrap, liquid like, around their ankles. "Sumos." She said in the same serious voice, and the water hardened, with a crackling sound, to ice. They'd find it hard to pull themselves free. Alyssa was quiet again, considering how to go about this. She wasn't feeling entirely up to snuff, true. But had she let Lexi know it, he'd probably make her go to sleep again, and she didn't want to be. She had things to do. She fixes her gaze on the burly man, whom she determines the leader. Now...what to do? Lexi was there...she didn't want to use several spells because of it. The simple yet effective spell was a start. "...who are you?" She inquired, somewhat of a command. She wants to know if this was an organized attack on her, or Lexi, or just some unfortunate criminals about to learn a lesson.

Lexi glanced at Alyssa and then at the trapped men that still surrounded them. Unless she had some other way out they would still need to fight, the assailants looked as if they wouldn't let them go peacefully.

A few of the men followed Lexi's gaze down to their feet, a few more struggled against it ineffectively, the burly man however, had been able to step back quickly enough to avoid being trapped in the ice. "We're beyond your tricks, girl," the man taunted. "Kill them." Most of the men had begun chipping at the ice with they're weapons, but two realized that they could still throw their knives and so they did.

Reading their moves, Lexi ripped his jacket open and shifted between Alyssa and the unfortunate fools who threatened her. "Nebula," he intoned gravely and his sword shot out of it's scabbard and into his hand with a brief flash, deflecting the first knife and he slashed across with the pale golden blade, knocking the second dagger out of the air.
