After nearly 19 years of wearing glasses, I have been told I can have contact lenses! I had my first consultation today, and I was allowed to try wearing them for half an hour so I could get used to the feel of them. It was really weird. I'd go to push my glasses up and they weren't there!
I've got another appointment on the 15th to learn how to put them in, and then if I cope with that, I am officially a contact lens wearer! Sometimes, anyway...
Yay! biggrin

Contacts aren't an option for me. I'm blind as a bat without my glasses, & anything on my eyes really irritates them severely.

Ever since my eye operation when I was five (to correct ptosis [droopy eyelid] ), my right eye especially is really sensitive to anything, so I can't wear contacts even if I wanted to.
And I've still got good eyesight, only it's much clearer for far-away stuff with glasses on. No headaches copying down boardfulls of class notes.
Anyways, have fun with the contacts! razz

I'm a complete bat without my glasses as well. My prescription is -9.5!! Mind you, I'm also astigmatic, which is why I'm so excited.
And let's face it, cool people wear glasses (like David Tennant, whose prescription is -5. He said during promotion for Learners) and I'm not cool.

DT is cool, and so are you. razz I dunno what my prescription is, but it's not very strong.. And my next pair is going to look similar to Ten's, so I'm more than happy to keep wearing them! I'm so forgetful, I'd probably never remember to take contacts out of my eyes, especially when they have the ads as "so gentle you won't notice them there" ... xd

I know you'll enjoy your contacts. I finally decided to get contacts after wearing glasses for about 15 years. As it turned out, my right eye is about 20/40... very good for close up work and just a little fuzzy for driving, but legal! I only wear contact in the left eye (which is 20/80 or 100, can't really remember). Took the old noggin a couple of days to adjust but I'm a very happy camper. xd

tennantsbutterfly I am happy for you. I had been wearing glasses for all these years (8 years?) but I gave up on them for 3 years and now my short sighted worsen due to that. I will wear glasses again soon maybe. In this city where I am living. Glasses are fashion!

my sister used to have contacts and they made her eyes really sensitive.
@Ceribri-omg your getting glasses like the doctors thats sooo cool! my glasses look alot like DTs except there a sort of bronzy colour, but the funny thing is I didnt notice how similar they were to Davids untill I was watching his video diary on my season 2 dvd and may mum said 'his glasses look like yours' and im like SQUEE!

I started wearing glasses when I was 7 or so, and only switched to contacts when I was 15. My prescription is -7.00 diopters, which is PRETTY DAMN BAD.
I normally didn't have discomfort wearing them, but I have terrible allergies to all sorts of pollen, and so I kept losing them during the spring when my eyes would get all watery and red. Once I had a contact pop out when I was driving. No problem, I thought, since I could still see okay from the other eye. And then the other contact popped out. Fortunately I was only three blocks from home, but damn... that was a very stressful three blocks.
The moral of that story: always keep a pair of glasses handy, just in case. gonk
I stopped wearing contacts a while ago because otherwise I'd have to wear safety glasses at work.

My mother couldn't wear contacts (too sensitive), but my father used to wear them all the time. I tried on Mom's glasses one time, and it took a lot of concentration to be able to see well with them on. I don't know what her prescription is.
I don't wear either one yet because I don't need them yet, but I think I probably will start needing them some time between tomorrow and 10 years from now. So I responded "neither" in the poll, but it should be "neither yet". (I'm always saying this, but I still don't have much trouble.)

Hmm, well my eyes are good... which is actually not that great for me because I'm weird and want glasses. I think they're kind of ... those things that you really want until you get them and find out they suck. I mean, when I was little I wanted braces because they were colourful and shiny, but when I got them.... whew... OUCH.
Still, seeing things far off is getting a bit difficult, just maybe. But if I were to get glasses I think reading ones would be better because then you don't have to wear them all the time. Ah, who knows... But if I had the option, I'd go for glasses rather than contacts. That's with no experience of either, though.
