**If you don't know the game, which I'm sure is most of you, you can go here and download it for free. You have to join the site and fill out a stupid questionnaire, but at least it is free, and the game is rather impressive for an MS-DOS game that is well over a decade old.

Year 2007… There’s nothing left on earth to explore except maybe the murky underwater caverns… Why bother?

In the 15th through late 18th century, people set sail on ships, and took months at times to get around to different parts of the earth. They set out to search for new lands unknown to them, new people that they haven’t met, and, best of all, new treasures that awaits for an explorer brave enough to seek it. Many countries built great fleets to show off their country’s wealth, many traders formed companies or their own trading company for the riches, and the pirates ravaged the sea. People swarm the cost of European cities, itching to board one of the ships, looking for a sturdy ship to be another addition to their fleet, and so on. With only small amount of gold in their pouch, traders dream of becoming rich, traveling from port to port. Pirates dominate the streets of Algiers where their main headquarter lies.

Possible Jobs for Captains...

Explorer
It is the late 15th century and everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and sailing off to explore the unknowns. Usually, the ships made for exploring are small, but fast, and it carries adequate amount of cargo for your small group of sailors around 30 to 50 men. Most explorers tend to have a co-captain and maybe one or two ships in their fleet.

Traders
“Buy low and sell high” is trader’s life. With only couple thousand gold coins, you could possibly earn millions through your savvy tongue and bartering skills. Trader ships carry large amount of cargo to sell at the next port city that they dock in. Around 30 to 50 sailors board the ship, but traders try to keep the number as low as possible to reduce the food cost and the hiring cost. Trader fleets range from two to three ships for small fleet and maximum of ten ships per fleet. They often hire mercenaries or other lesser traders to watch over a part of their fleet.

Pirates
The outlaws and the criminals of the sea make up the pirates. They are not welcomed in most ports and the ports of the countries of fleets that they attacked the most; often times, the battle fleets that are part of the national fleet will try to capture you and destroy your fleet. Pirates only accept those who have shown their worth through battle and or crimes. The ship will have about 200 to 300 men, up to 500, but more men there are, more money spent on food. The pirate fleets vary from as little as three up to ten. The main headquarters of pirates lies in the slums of the city Algiers, on the northern cost of Africa.

Naval Officers
Every nation has their own navy and fleet of battle ships that protect their country’s traders and catch the pirates. Keep in mind the rivalries between each country, though they will not attack the other countries, unless the monarch of the country declares a war on the other. Their ship will have about 200 to 300 men, up to 500, same as the pirate, and similar number of ships in a fleet, except they are granted two more extra ships from the royal court.

**There are many more jobs that just the four above, such as, doctor, cook, banker, ship builder, mercenary, and so on. Use your imagination!

**I did not put in a specific job for you to pick, because in this RP, you may change your job any time you wish. In the middle of the RP, if you decide you don’t want to be a trader anymore, you are welcome to take up a sword and become a pirate, though I must warn you that a rookie pirate will get caught rather easily by the experienced navy fleets. Your fleet could get destroyed by the pirates, and you may have to start building up your fortune back from scratch by boarding on someone else’s fleet. One day you might deicide that you have learned enough from your captain, and make your own fleet, as anyone would dream. BUT, please do specify what you are in your first post. Thank you.

History: Ril's family come from a small trading company that is fairly new, only 3 generations, that trade around central and western Mediterranean Sea. Though her family did own a house in Sevilla, where she was born, she followed her father on to the ship whenever possible. Her passion for sea, along with her rambunctious character, caused one trouble after another, making her parents worry that their daughter might not find a suitable husband to marry. When she had turned 20, her parents managed to promise their daughter to the son of their friend, who happened to be very afraid of water and could not sail with her. Disgusted by her parents' decision, Ril stole two ships from her father's fleet, with a little help from her grandfather, and ran away to Genova to start her own trading company in hopes of proving to her parents, one day, that she is fine on her own.

He naturaly became Ril's playmate, and when she ran away from home, her parents secretly made Camil go along with her and report back to them what she is up to.

To Galena, it brought opportunity. She headed to the port to apply for passage-and a job.

** The relationships between the countries are based exactly upon the age of exploration. The Portuguese and the Spanish are not on the friendly terms, and Spain has the most formidable naval fleet in the European nations. All the countries are just dying to leech benefits off of the newly discovered world, and begin some form of trade between the eastern countries. The Ottoman Empire’s power is being threatened by the growing European fleets, and they will not welcome any Europeans into their port, though many have been reported to dress up as a Muslim and sneak in at night.
