Has anyone seen the movie Mirrormask? It's definately more fantasy than steampunk, but the outfits and some of the creatures look mechanical enough to qualify.

The Tin Man, a Sci-fi Channel Original Series, is most definately steampunk, and thought the acting's bad, it's still a toreable series.

Mirrormask was brilliant. whee heart I ought to see it again, it's been a while.

As for Tin Man.... well, I love Alan Cumming to death, but good lord. D: A good actor or two does not make up for lousy cliched writing, a lot of bad acting, and a director that ought to be taken out back and shot. xp

Still, the designs of the stuff itself are kinda cool. 3nodding

Oh, is Tin Man no good? The commercials looked amazing. It's on the DVR, but I haven't made time to watch it yet.

(And MirrorMask is exactly the kind of fantasy I was talking about in the Q/A thread. Gaiman-esque steampunk fairy-tales, anyone? ninja )

Never seen mirror mask, but I rather liked Tin Man. Even if it was not as good as the previews mad eit out to be.

.o.
I'd seen the previews for Tin Man and read a review, and it looks simply fantast(eam)ic. :B I wanna see it so bad.
Haven't seen MirrorMask. Keep saying I should.

When I saw the commercial for TinMan, I was thinking steampunk. Though sadly I haven't gotten the chance to see it.

Is it any good?

I haven't seen Tin Man, but as a mask geek, I fully enjoyed MirrorMask.

...Should've put it on my Christmas List. whee

Yes, Tin Man was definitely steampunk. I liked it quite a bit; yes, there were some rather cliched speeches, and several parts of the story were cliched, but it was still very entertaining and had gorgeous design.

Mirrormask was brilliant too- words cannot describe how much I love it. But again, I don't think it was quite steampunk. Some steampunk parts, yes, but not entirely steampunk.

I was actually not so much a fan of Mirrormask.

And Tin Man is, while pleasing to the eye, was basically a bromidic recycling of sci-fi staples. All flash, no content - but still, a very pretty flash.

Yes, Tin Man has quite a few steampunk elements. I actually really loved it, despite some various cliches. I thought most of the actors did a wonderful job, but the actress playing DG (the main character) was terrible.

I haven't heard of MirrorMask before, what is it about?

A girl ends up trapped in a world of her own creation, and IIRC, the titular mask is the only way to return to the real world.

It's a lot more complicated than that, but I think that's the gist of the plot. sweatdrop
