I've heard a lot about other types of fan-girls but not the ones that scare me the most. Do they scare you too?

I've never really come across that many anime fangirls. I'll admit- I was more into anime when I was in high school, so it's been a while since I've had contact with other anime fans...

YES! Anime fangirls frighten me... and quite often smell bad. I'm sorry girly but they are NOT real and they are NOT yours so stop trying to break up cannon with your little Mary Sue. *kicks*
And do you mind if I rant on Jrock fangirls here too since they're often connected? Because I have a pet peeve, particularly relating to Gackt fangirls. Besides the fact that they're scary and extra squeely because yes, the man is truly gorgeous. (But be articulate about it! Jeeze!)
If you're going to fangirl to death over someone and proclaim how much you luuuuuuuuuuuv him and blah blah blah LEARN to pronouce his name! Most good Gackt fansites will have a pronunciation if you just pull yourself away from the gallery section and actually READ something. I understand people pronouncing his name wrong, I reall do and that doesn't bother me. However if you're as big of a fan as you say you are, and you pronounce it the way it's spelled, I will rip your hair out. I worked at Blockbuster when Moon Child was released in the US and I realized that in my wee city there were some Gackt fans... all who couldn't pronounce his name... I corrected them... often.
(And it's pronounced Gakuto, though I believe in Japanese the "u" is silent to non existent. I pronounce the "u".)
And don't even get me started on Mana fangirls!

Then, Lady Leonardo, don't read my old Pokemon fanfic series that Leonardo Mystic inspired me to start some years back and still reads when I add a new chapter rofl *is glad she never had a single complaint of mary-sueism* I'm only human; there are a few anime series I've loved to distraction, I just know not to publicly make an idiot of myself over it. mrgreen

I really think that every fanfic writer has at least one Mary Sue buried in their closet. Thankfully my TOTAL Chichiri (Fushigi Yuugi) Mary Sue has been wiped from the internet... I think. *L* I never throw away anything I write so I still have her she's just not readable to anyone. In my defense I was... 18 at the time? Okay that's a crappy defense. xd [Edit] Besides, I've read your writing and if it was anything then like it is now at least it'd be a well written MS. I have a friend who freely admits her OC is a Mary Sue but it is SO damn good you don't care. I really take that as being more of a self insert then since all the cannon characters are still very in character.

That's ok, Lady, I was joking to begin with sweatdrop I don't know if you saw my post about the dare I accepted and the Willy Wonka fanstory I am writing as a result. Trust me, it is a STORY, along the lines of personal growth for several people besides a love story and keeps Wonka who he is, not a simple jibe to get the poor guy into bed with someone. That is why I was writing it--to make a Wonka love story that did not make Wonka uncharacteristic or destroy his dignity because most fangirl-fics are just that. Urgh!

I saw, and would like to read it when you're finished! I started writing out a dream I had about Willy Wonka but it at no point turned romantic, more like him beoming friends with someone. I never bothered to finish it, I just can't really write the character very well so I don't see the point in butchering it.

No, anime fangirls don't scare me... they're just bloody annoying with their high pitch squeals and how their life revolves around anime, and not to mention how they make anime look bad with their obsessive attitudes. The demographic of anime fangirls is not as diverse as I would have thought. The newer fangirls that started to like anime once they've send Inu Yasha over or some other anime on Cartoon Network are the most annoying probably because of their noobish ways. The most annoying of all these anime fangirls, I think, are the ones who try to draw and think they drew a masterpiece--when in fact they've merely copy from their favorite anime. stare Oh yes, I have first hand experience...-_- Quite annoying, but I need some venting here if you don't mind.

I have to admit that Cartoon Network annoys me (don't ask) but it isn't always a bad thing. A lot of anime fans I know got into it because of Sailor Moon and have since evolved. But those damn people who watch anime on Cartoon Network and think that means they know everything about anime or that they're the ultimate otaku or whatever just REALLY bother me.

*laughs* I will admit my interest in anime started with CN; I was educated on SM and DBZ that way before I moved off in my own direction and did my darndest to get ahold of UNCUT, SUBTITLED stuff in those series so I knew what they were really saying. I no longer really watch CN, one because of lack of current cable, and two because for some of the 'anime' there the dub was really, really bad. I hope I've learned to look for anime based upon my own judgement, not silly, badly-spelled fanhype. *Big Chobits fan here.....* Few animes really tug at my soul and only the best will do, after all.

I tend to like obscure anime which actually sucks because at conventions nobody knows who you're cosplaying and you can't find any merchandise. The most popular stuff I like (other than Gundam Wing, 'cause damnit Wufei rocks) would be Serial Experiments Lain and Petshop of Horrors, neither of which are hugely popular. My favorite is eX-Driver though and no one's heard of that! stare
I guess I got into anime years before they started running Sailor Moon on CN but that's what got me back into it since up until that point there really wasn't a lot out (and I was never interested in DBZ). Then I found out all the stupid crap they did to Sailor Moon and the fact that I wanted to kill the voice actors just ran me off. I could deal with the ridiculous badguys (they were funny!) but I couldn't deal with the rest of the crap. Now I pretty much refuse to watch anime that's dubbed like Pokemon, Yugioh, etc. not because of the anime itself but because they bring out these over the top voices that SERIOUSLY make me want to run screaming. Yeah I'm a sub fan what can I say. The only anime that I absolutely love dubbed is Petshop of Horrors (since D is supposed to be a Chinese man in America) and Kiki's Delivery Service because damnit Phil Hartman rocked.

Petshop of horrors? That 4-part series? I loved that! mrgreen I actually ran into that in my local video shop. Creepy but right there. I thought Kiki's Delivery Service was cute but I also really fancy Spirited Away, whose dubbing was really top-notch and accurate (at least to me).

Oh yes I forgot about Spirited Away. All of their stuff (I can't remember how to spell the name of the studio off the top of my head) is done really well actually, though I thought all the famous voices in Princess Mononoke were a little distracting.

You remember my saying I loved Chobits? I actually came across the manga for that first and positively drooled when I learned the anime was coming to the US and dubbed in English. Much to my amazement, the dub is 99% word-for-word accurate. The few instances that aren't are pretty close, and had to do, I think, with lipsynching in english vs. what the character was saying in Japanese. (I regularly listen to both, a favorite thing of mine to do with Anime DVD's is listen in English while reading Japanese subtitles.)

I listen to Excel Saga in English with the subtitles on... but that's because you can't understand what the hell she's saying otherwise. xd
Dubs are definately getting better that's for sure. I just don't understand why they keep putting these crazily over the top voices in the "kids" anime. Hell I love the game Pokemon I might be willing to watch the show were the voices not absolutely terrible. I don't know that I'd be able to watch Yugioh but those are even worse! What the hell?
I've gotten talked to before because of my distaste for the American voice acting in those anime since apparently some of the TMNT voice actors work on Yugioh as well. But to me that just proves they CAN do stuff right damnit!
