So I received the educational edition of Painter X the day before yesterday.

There's just one problem...

...

There's too many %^&*ing brushes. >_< It's overwhelming.

Anyone had a problem with the program where you want to create something using it but you have so many options it's just overflowing with too many ideas?

I'm just so used to Corel Painter Essentials 2...

I'm kind of in the digital painting area now-a-days but should I use conte? Pastels? Chalk?

Honestly?

I'm ******** terrified of Painter. Greg uses it and loves it, as does Drew(our beloved Psytoasty), but I, like you, am turned off by the TEN BILLION BRUSHES that, for me, mostly produce really ugly strokes.

So instead of getting smart and learning how to use the program, I own Photoshop, SAI Painter, OpenCanvas 4plus (paid for it) and Artrage2 (paid for it). Apparently Painter does all the things I own these multiple programs for, but I am just so ghghghghghhghgh full of hate/fear for Painter that I can't get into it.

Maybe there are some tutorials around.

Painter is fun to mess with but, like Icono said - it's hard to even get the sort of lines you feel like using. I spend most of the time I use that program just messing with settings and not actually even doodling.

I actually prefer Painter, but only because I never got used to Photoshop (I still haven't - I think my fear of Photoshop is kind of how you guys feel about Painter). Eventually I'm going to get on that. Learning Photoshop.

There is a hell of a lot of stuff to mess with in Painter, yeah. And most of the pre-set brush strokes kind of fail, so you spend a lot of time screwing around with the settings. But once you get past that, it's really nice. You can get lots of easy brush strokes that have some good texture in them. The 'painting' aspect of it is the only thing I use it for, since Painter's image editing features are balls. The layering system could have been set up better, too, but I'm sure the creators assumed people already had Photoshop for that (and rightly so, I think). There are lots of people who just use both programs, anyway.

I love painter like crazy... I think it's because I started out learning out to paint with traditional mediums before I learned how to use digital (which wasn't til way after I graduated from highschool, in highschool all I did was traditional)

I like the tone brush and oil brushes best. Plus what helped me was that our school has a painter class... lol. But like everything else practice makes perfect!
