We`rika was trying to blow smoke rings. Failing, but practice makes perfect. He had nothing better to do anyway as he waited for the bank to open. It was murderously early, but so was his job and this was the only time he had to cash his check for the new week. And God knows, Sevilin couldn't wait a day for his weekly allowed candy hoard.
So he blew blobs of distorted smoke that looked nothing like a circle, watching brand new cars stop and rush past him at an intersection, pining for their loveliness. One of these days! He'd marry some fat old rich hag and get him some justice. "Seriously..." He agreed with himself to the confusion of those around him, taking another drag of his cigarette.

A large black Scion rumbled and came to a pause at the intersection nearby. The vehicle had tinted windows, but that didn't matter too much. One near the back was partially rolled down, vacant blue eyes staring out at the street.
Pink hair, long and hanging down around pale, thin shoulders, was beginning to show dark brown roots. It looked extremly distasteful, as though the owner had neglected or simply didn't care about it any longer. In reality she'd simply been disallowed to re-dye it.
He'd said that they'd all forget about her soon enough, even more so if she didn't have the nearly neon stamp of familiarity for them to recognize.
Chloe Star could see hardly anything without her glasses on... but she could recognize a voice. Her heart leapt into her throat and she gave a soft gasp, zeroing in on the blurry figure that had spoken, eyes squinting to try and make out features.
Terror gripped her tightly, if she was going to do anything she'd have to do it fast... but for the moment she was too terrified to even dare speaking.

Ugh now that was a sight for sore eyes. Who honestly wanted a ******** box for a car? We`rika took one last drag form his cigarette and flicked the butt at the distant care, but that's not what kept him looking.
"Chloe? Oy hey Chloe!" The shaman waved like a silly school boy at an old crush.

We`rika's recognition of her set her off. Chloe took in a deep breath and all but screamed, likely startling any innocent bystandars.
"We`rika! WE`RIKA HELP! GET APHISMET! WE`RI-!"
That was all she could get out before an arm snaked back from the front seat, a flash of blond and cold, hard eyes. The owner of the hand grasped Chloe by the front of her tanktop, yanking her back and away from the window before it rolled upward.
The vehicle immediatly began driving away. The light had not yet turned green, and there was a near crash. The Scion swerved out of the way and continued to drive at an unsafe speed.

The shaman's blood drained from his face at the sound of his friend's cries. "Chloe?!" Without thinking, We`rika jumped into the intersection, blocking three lanes of traffic and sounding a cacophony of horns.
"CHLOE!" He couldn't do much as the car bolted away and oncoming cars began to swallow it up, but he had seen and been on enough cop shows to get the make of the car and license number. "Aphismet..." When a car behind him nudged him threateningly, his newfound fear and vehemence began to boil over him and onto the car behind him, denting the hood of the man's little Honda before storming back onto the side walk and whipping out his phone. He dialed Aphismet.

Aphismet rubbed his hands against his pants as the phone rang. He'd been busily emptying the contents of a box he'd found in the attic, and the dust was getting everywhere. Wrinkling his nose in annoyance at the feeling between his fingers, Aphi picked up the receiver, tucking it between his chin and shoulder.
"Hello?" He called out distractedly, still trying to somehow get the dust off his hands.

"Oh shi', man! Dude, I saw Chloe!" We`rika went silent as a muffled '******** you!' rang in the receiver apparently to some passerby. ""She... She was in uhh ******** a uhh car- a Scion!- and she was screamin'! Aw man, Aphi! Someone grabbed her and pulled her from th'window!" He paused and took another breath, trying to remember the license plate. "Th'car tag was from uhh Durem, i' was 07B2Z21..."

Aphismet blinked in surprise as Werika's voice sounded from the receiver, and Aph had been about to smile and ask how the Huichol was, when Werika announced that bleak, world-shattering news. He'd seen Chloe!
Aphismet's smile dropped right off his face, and his blood drained, leaving him pale. Werika's words were sharply focused, and Aphismet scrambled for the pad and paper when the man began to describe the car.
"H-hold on, Scion... Durem... Uh, number, uh....07B2Z-... 21. Got it! Werika, where are you now? Where was the car heading, do you know? Hocrap, how, how... How do we track this license plate? The thethe.. the cops? I I I I, I... I don't know what to do! I'm going to meet you! Where are you?!"
Aphismet's mind was a jumble, and he tried to think of what he could be able to do.

Roux heard Aphismet shouting in the attic, floating toward the pull-down staircase and looking upward in his familiar, bland expression. The man was falling over his words about something.
The Roc Frei put one hand on the third step up and listened intently. Something was happening.

"I'mma in Durem, y'know th'bank? I'mma in fron' of tha'... Dun worry abou' th'police they..." He sighed almost regretfully. "They'rea comin'..." But not for this reason. The a*****e that had bumped him with his car had called the police about the nice dent he had left in his rage. Oh god, he hoped his parole officer didn't hear about this until later. He could already hear the sirens, We`rika just hoped they sent at least two cars so one could trail Chloe's car.

Aphismet was nodding as Werika spoke. The bank, he knew where that was! Not far from work!
"I'll be on my way, don't go anywhere! Try to get the cops to- Well, you already know, right? D-don't go anywhere, please, please pleaseplease!" Aphismet begged at the receiver, holding it with two hands. "I'm leaving now!" He slammed the receiver down and ran towards the stairs, almost leaping down.
He saw Roux there, listening in. Aphi's breath caught. Of course, the Frei had to come! It was HIS guardian after all, and the icy Raevan's powers might come in handy! "Roux!" Aphismet said, hurrying down the stairs. "Roux, come on, we have to go quickly! There's a lead on Chloe, if we hurry we might be able to find her! Come on, come on!" He ran past the Raevan and hurried to his car, making sure Roux followed him.

Roux floated back as Aphismet rocketed down the stairs, looking at the man in mild distaste. What was he so-
"Chloe?!" The Frei reared back in shock, hands flying forward to grasp at the man's shirt collar. He let go immediatly. His anger shouldn't be directed at Aphismet right now, he needed to save it. He nodded eagerly to Aphismet, floating after him to the car. He didn't even make him open the door for him, Roux was in the passenger seat before Aphismet was in the drivers.
"Go. Now."
Chloe...

Aphismet didn't have to be asked twice. He turned on the car, only now thinking to leave a note at the house explaining where he went, but there was no time. He'd explain when he got back. Pushing on the gas, Aphi backed out of the long Delaran driveway, and sped off towards Durem.
It was a good fifteen minutes before the car made it to the Bank, every minute punctuated by a swear from Aphi as he watched the car's digital clock tick another number. The longer they took, the farther Chloe could get! Now that they finally got to the bank, Aphi swore once more, not able to see any free parking spot! Screw it! The cook pulled over to the side, parking his car next to another. There were cops nearby and the traffic was a little backed up, so maybe they wouldn't notice one double-parked car.
"Here we are, Roux, let's see if we can find Werika!" Aphi all but jumped out of the car, ignoring the honks of other vehicles now stuck behind him. Aphi ran to the sidewalk and began hurrying towards the bank, craning his neck to see if Werika was around.

We`rika sighed, trying to scratch his shoulder, but it was a little hard what with the cuffs and everything. So he sat on the hood of the police car waiting for the officers to gather their testimonies and wait for his parole officer.
Oh God this was the worst day of his life! He hoped Aphismet got here soon. He was trying to wiggle out a cigarette when he saw the man... though he looked quite different.
"Oy! Aphismet! HEY!! Hey--HEY!" His cries of joy turned sour as one of the officers came over to shut him up. "Ge' him over here, he's my witness! Hey! him! Tha' one... He's th'one I called... Aphi!" He better have brought bail money.
