I have recently acquired an obssession for the seven Japanese breeds of dog. Today I saw someone who owned a Shikoku-Ken at Petcetera. I was so excited to see one! The number of these dogs in North America is probably in the hundreds at the most, including the few breeders, so to actuall see one was such a treat! Because of that I am officially and unmovingly taken with the Japanese breeds, especially the Shikoku-Ken and Kai-Ken.

For those of you who don't know, the Japanese breeds have been declared national monuments of Japan and exporting them is extremely difficult. Shibas and Akitas are more common, although North American Akitas are quite different than the Japanese Akita Inu by now and not recognised as the same breed in Japan.

Shiba's are so fluffy and cute! I've loved them forever! But recently I really like Shikoku and Kai Ken dogs too! Maybe I just like them all... sweatdrop
