Soaring in the sky above the forest, Alston decides to descend into a large clearing to graze a little. He had just been back at his teepee talking with some of his herd mates but he was feeling a little hungry so he took to the air. Looking around at the clearing he just landed in, the stallion didn't see any threats so he lowered his head and slowly ate some grass. Luckily he had been able to spot this from the air since everything seemed to be covered in snow or slightly covered. He was kind of surprised that there was even some green grass.
Alston paused and gazed up at the sky. Even though everything seemed to be still, he seemed to be able to find something in the blank sky to stare at. He just loved daydreaming...

Sohalia sighed a little; a glance at the end of her tail showed it to be heavy with slowly melting snow, and she flicked it, the action just managing to moved the tips enough to shake the slush from it.
'Rat tails...lovely,' she groused to herself but only halfheartedly. She wasnt a primping kind of mare that cared about her appearance all the hours of the day, she just didn't like the cold, and cold and wet was even worse. The feeling of sodden hairs catching the back of her legs..she made herself shudder and chuckled, shaking her head.
She carried on her way, the well trodden snowy grass soft underfoot, her hooves squishing as she went. She caught sight of the stallion as walked along trying to find a patch of grass that didnt look like a whole herd of Soquili had tramped on it. She watched him, her eyes catching sight of his wings. Her interest was piqued..she was fascinated by the form, the sheer ingenuity of a design that allowed something of their size to be as free in the sky as the birds were. She wouldnt approach him outright however, for now she was content to watch him, as he looked to the sky above.

Tilting his head, Alston heard another soquili nearby. He slowly turned to gaze at Sohalia. His breath was taken away as he saw her but he didn't say anything yet. She was beautiful and her dark fur contrasted with the snow around her made her seem almost ethereal. He finally spoke up, "Hello there."
Hopefully he wouldn't scare her away or anything, he seemed to have a habit of doing that. His personality was rather... random, exactly like his mother's so others tended to drift away from him after awhile wishing that they never had met him. He didn't mind it though, he could always find another... "Who might you be?"

Sohalia moved closer, stopping a few paces away, her eyes flicking occasionally to his wings as she addressed him. With a closer inspection she noticed the antenna gracing his head, and she was puzzled by that.
'Are those antennae?' she asked, for now sidestepping his question of who she was. She would introduce herself once she felt comfortable enough to do so; which might not even be during this first meeting with the stallion! 'I do not think I have ever seen a Soquili with insect like details.'

Watching her curiously, Alston didn't even notice that she didn't answer his question. "Um. Yea, last time I checked they were antennae." He chuckled softly and shrugged. "I think I got them from my mother and she has butterfly-like wings." He never really thought about the antennae on his head because it wasn't like he could look up and see them. "You don't think they're... weird do you?" Raising his brow, Alston seemed to have a worried look on his face. His emotions were quite apparent but it was hard to tell if they were fake or not.

Sohalia feared that she may have offended the stallion in some way; after all, if the antenna were passed down by his mother than he may deem it an impertinent question to ask about them.
'Oh no,' Sohalia shook her head quickly, a soft tinkle sounding as two of the gems in her mane caught against each other. She hurried to reassure him, saying with a smile; 'I think you look wonderful, very unusual, most fascinating.' she flashed hima proper, flirtatious smile for a moment, the white of her teeth contrasting starkly against her hide.

It was difficult to offend Alston since he never really seemed to understand that he was actually be insulted. Life was easy for him and mostly black and white. It would take him a long time before he truly began to understand the world around him. His attention was slightly diverted by the tinkle of her gems. They looked so pretty...
But then he pulled his attention back to what she was saying. He blushed vividly, "Oh don't give me too much credit since I look like a dull caterpillar compared to you." He was very... bad at giving compliments and making comparisons...

'Why would you think that?' Sohalia asked, all seriousness again. How strange that the stallions she was meeting seemed to have some self esteem problems.
'You have those interesting lines of white dots,' she commented, as she walked around him. 'Your wings look soft, and elegant, yet they are highly functional, and a wonderful dusky purple hue.' She finished her 'tour' around the stallion and stood before him once more. 'And you have those unique antenna. I don't think you are dull at all. I am merely monochrome.' she said in a disparaging manner of her own looks.

Alston shrugged slightly and observed Sohalia. His eyes followed her as she walked around him but he stood in the same position. "Well, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Plus, everybody has different perceptions of themselves so I guess we are our worst critics." This was one of those times that Alston seemed to be wise beyond his years but these times were scarce.
The stallion gazed at her once more, she didn't see what he saw when he looked at her. So that just confirmed to himself what he said was true. "I don't think we should be allowed to judge ourselves." He smiled sheepishly hoping that he wasn't boring her.

'Wise words indeed,' Sohalia said with a graceful nod of her head. 'Oh everyone casts judgement at some point in their life, it's part of nature. No one can help it.' She drifted away a little, her hooves crunching into the snow, her tail sweeping along the top, ice crystals sparkling in the sunlight. 'So, Mr Butterfly..' she smiled faintly, her head tilted as she spoke. 'What do they call you?'

"I guess so but I don't think we should do it. But it just happens doesn't it?" Alston burst into laughter, he just cracked himself up. Mr. Butterfly... that was a new one. "I go by Alston." He even forgot the fact that she never even told him her name, but that was okay. The stallion gazed at her curiously wondering what she was thinking about. He was so curious about the world; he wanted to know more.

'You could say that of most things that we do,' Sohalia tilted her head at his outburst of laughter. Her Mr. Butterfly quip hadnt been that funny.
'Well it is good to meet you Alston,' she still wasn't sure if she would divulge her own name yet, maybe after they had conversed more. 'So what do you like to do? Do you fly often?' she asked.

Sometimes Alston didn't quite... get things or it would take him awhile to understand what was normal and what wasn't. "It's a pleasure to meet you too." He nodded softly and then pondered her question. "Well, I do fly pretty often. Whenever I'm bored, it's so nice to feel the wind in my hair and the feeling of... freedom." He grinned sheepishly as he described this. "What about you? Do you do anything in your free time?" Smiling softly, Alston began to wonder what she thought about him. He had a hard time reading others and it usually bothered him a lot to not know what others were feeling at the time.

'I am very glad to hear that,' Sohalia nodded as she spoke. 'The last two that I met that were winged as you are did not seem to have much faith in their flight abilities, and so didn't use them so much as they should. I think that to be such a waste..' her words trailed off. 'The freedom must be glorious. I believe that if I had wings I would be rarely on the ground. So I have to content myself with long gallops, it's as close to flying as I'm ever likely to experience.'
She flushed slightly; although it wouldnt be noticeable on her pelt! She had gotten far more enthused than she usually did. She did so envy Soquili's like Alston. 'I drift..from here to there, and back again.' she replied in a suitably enigmatic fashion, her eyes expressing her amusement. 'And occasionally I meet someone like yourself and wax lyrical about their wings.'

"Oh really? I couldn't imagine not having wings. It's just kinda second nature for me to be in the air a lot." Alston couldn't imagine those that had wings but didn't feel confident in using them... Actually... his mother was a perfect example of that. "My mother has butterfly wings, sorta, and she doesn't even know how to fly at all. She's tried but she's never been able to get a few inches off of the ground... Definitely strange..." He couldn't help but smile sheepishly once again at Sohalia.
"Oh, that's interesting. Do you see anything interesting while you wander about?" He noticed her slight change in expression and smiled in return. He hoped he wasn't boring her because he knew he was quite capable of rambling a lot but he chuckled softly at her last comment.
