At first, I figured that Zombicide was really bringing up a good point about how banning video games would do absolutely nothing to prevent children from acting like idiots in society, which he was. My problem with it, however, was the direction it went towards. Everyone started to talk about how "sex, violence, and bad language" weren't necessary to a game. You all kept going on about how ridiculous it started to become, and eventually the discussion came to a U-turn from defending those three things from total censorship to where you didn't want them in video games anymore. My new question here is would you rather have sex, violence, and bad language out of games for good, or would you not? It got pretty confusing where the judgements on if they could be there or not got pretty gray in where the decision was made, that's how it looks to me.

It is not necessary nor is it not necessary. It should be accepted. Take for example, art. It is not necessary for art to have violent, sexual, or demeaning images, but if it helps the content, then it is acceptable. The same should be applied to games, if these "questionable" actions are witnessed in a game, it should only help the game, not be there for the sake of being there.

I don't think there is any reason for the Manhhunt series to exist, nor do I think the boobs in God of War make it a better game. If it's something that could offend or alienate part of your target market and it doesn't add anything to the experience, why put it in your game at all? I'm lookin at you, God-of-War-Boobs. Er... rather, not lookin at you... redface

Well, technically God of War and Manhunt are adult products, and therefore aren't alienating any of their official target audience. But from what I understand, the grotesque violence of Manhunt is supposed to force players to face their feelings about violence and fear, much in the same way Saw or Hellraiser movies make their audience really think about violence. And I think God of War has boobs to place the player even further in the setting. That, and David Jaffe loves him some boobies.

Yes well, who doesn't? But in reference to Manhunt: how many people who go see Saw (heh, seesaw) actually sit there in the theater (or the car afterwards) and think "Gee, that violence sure was horrible. We should all not torture each other..." It seems more like it would just desensitize people. Some people even like seeing all the violence. And you know, I honestly can't imagine why. I think people tend to lack normal human empathy these days.

Well that's just the things these movies bring to light, how little the human race reacts to violence any more. And on the note of most people not getting that message, most people look at Mondrian's Composition with Red, Yellow, and Blue and they don't get it, even though there are some very deep thought lines blooming from these paintings.

Now, I actually like blood and gore/violence in games. It makes the game more fun. However, I hate sex in gaming. I don't think it should be banned, I just think developers should stop putting it in their games. Sex does nothing to make the game fun, and in the end, isn't playing a video game just about having fun?

Listen, people curse in real life. So why is it so bad for video game characters to use bad language in games?

How does gore make a game fun? I would have liked Resident Evil 4 just as much if my head headn't been sliced off numerous times. I probably would have liked it more, actually...

Gore makes the game more realistic. If I cut something in a game, I want it to react the same way in real life. If I swing a sword at a wall, there should be a scratch there and that scratch should still be there if I run off somewhere else. Also if I shoot a zombie, I should see blood, a hole, and the zombie make a reaction. Also if I cut somebody in a game, I should see some kind of mark. So the gore makes the game more believable, which intern makes the experience more immersive. I find it annoying to play games, like Zelda because when I swing a sword at an enemy, I only see a flash on the screen, the the enemy flinches back, but there is no mark on him. This makes the kill less satisfying or cool.

Gore and violence is good when it suits the mood of the game it is in.

Not liking a game just because of its rating would be dumb though.

Well at heart, Zelda is a kids story, there should be no blood in kids stories.

There shouldn't be, some authors like to push the limits though.....

Pssh. Realistic? Why would we want realism in a fictional media?
