Mapa had fringed the jungle for a few days now, hopping in and out as her needs saw fit. It had its own brand of allure, the vibrant colours amidst the dark, rich greens; the humidity, the warmth; the smells and noises, and teh very taste of the air. It was all new to Mapa and she was curious. But the jungle's other feature - its incredible density - kept her from staying too long. As much as she liked to believe she could stay in control in any situation, she didn't want to push her luck here.
Best to play it safe on the fringes and outskirts, where she might charm her away out of anything.
Nestled beneath a bough of saplings, she nursed a small deer carcass having stalked the bloody thing for a good while. It didn't yield much meat, and she wasn't about to share it.

Afritti'dogo wasn't out on a hunt, far from it, she was simply out for a walk. She had left the cubs in the loving, well, not loving, in the care of their father. She knew Moses would look after their cubs with his life and she had really needed a short break. The fact that the pull of her babes pulled her back towards the den, the fact that her cubs were behind her willing her back to them never let her stray too far. For the moment she simply wandered about, on the alert for anything bigger, and scarier than herself. She considered making her way towards the water, to gaze in to it's glassy surface. She hated doing this though, it only hurt her ego.
Sighing audibly she caught the scent of a kill upon the air and without a moments hesitation she padded through the undergrowth rather loudly. Afritti had never really been one for stalking, that was Moses' job to hunt, the scent of a kill though drew her through the greenery some what like a small elephant.
She infact almost trod on the deep blue lioness though she recovered her posture quickly and looked down her nose at the oddly coloured femme. "Who are you? What are you doing here?" She quipped her dark eyes fixed upon the oddly coloured femme.

Mapa, despite her normally lazy attitude to life, was not a stupid lioness, nor careless. She heard Afritti's approach, unsure of what to expect. She could just about tell from the sounds that it was not a small deer, possibly another predator. If it were a leopard, Mapa might be outclassed in this instance and would have to run.
The last thing she had prepared herself for was a youngster (by Mapa's age) who nearly stepped on her!
"Being a damn-sight quieter than you!" she snapped back quickly, her meager kill at her paws having darted a few paces away from the other lioness.

Afritti paused fro a moment taken aback by the other females attitude towards her, didn't she realise she was talking to a princess...her train of thought wandered off pretty quicky, she wasn't a princess any more. Shaking her head slightly to clear her mind of this almost disturbing thought she looked at the older femme and snorted.
"Well one doesn't have to be quiet if one doesn't want to be." She snapped her tail lashing and her gaze turned to look directly down her nose. "You should know this area belongs to my Mate and I" she snaps, putting on airs and graces was the only way that Afritti knew how to converse with others, she liked to be on top so to speak.

"Oh really? I didn't see any signs," she replied with a smug grin and sat herself down again, not feeling threatened by Afritti.
"So, what do you call yourself?" she asked, changing the topic abruptly and resuming her lengthy and savoured chewing and licking of the small carcass.
For some reason, Mapa just didn't get a sense that Afritti was any kind of ruler. Or at least she was a very new ruler if at all. As such, she didn't feel the need to turn on the charm or the different faces to hold sway with the younger lioness.

Afritti lashed her tail at the snide remark of the other, her violet eyes narrowed to slits and she pursed her lips in an annoyed fashion. "My name is Afritti'dogo, and my mate and I own this particular stretch of jungle." She snorted her eyes fleeing to the small carccass, she was far from hungry so the small beast really didn't interest her.
"And your name? Or is it simply intruder?" she raised a sardonic brow her eyes narrowed to mere slits, this female wasn't going to get the best of her, oh no.

"You can call me that if you want to, but you'd get a better response out of me with Mapenzi," she almost purred, quite self-satisfied.
"And there's no need to get all riled up on my account," she commented idly as she began chewing a limb. "I won't be here for long."
That usually calmed any tense lion or leader, and it was entirely true. Mapa just wasn't the kind to sit around in one place all day.

Pursing her lips the dark lioness eyed the deep blue female for a moment longer, her tail lashing gently, she could accept that, she supposed. Settling a little the salmon streaked femme sat with her paws together watching the oddly colorued femme with little interest.
"Just as well, my mate would see you away soon enough. He's not very tollerant of intruders." Really Afritti doubted that Moses would bother with the blue female, it concerned her slightly that thsi female was a rogue and was very confiden, much like herself really. Only she, she always feared that Moses would wander to otehr females, the way her father had, despite his promises.
Licking her pale lips and feining indifference the ex-princess peered away through the trees, rather bored now that she had confronted this female and found her to only be passing through. "Well mapenzi, I'm sure you'll find your way out of here quickly enough, there is a waterign hole that way, make sure to quench your thirst before you go, won't you?" She raised a brow beneath her salmon fringe, she could possibly not hint any more that she wanted this female out of the jungle.

Oooh, Mapa could feel the cold chill from Afritti. It made her smile a little, actually quite impressed to have found such a spirited young lioness. A little pang of guilt hit her in the back of the head at having teased this lioness so much, but company was rare at the moment.
"So eager to be rid of me? Oh, you're so sweet," she smiled. "I'll be gone by dusk, travelling at night is safer these days. I don't suppose you;d know about that though. Led a sheltered life?"

Sheltered? Yes, she had led a sheltered life but she wasn't about to admit that to this femme. Snorting she raised a brow at the older female and shook her head in a horty fashion. "What ever would make you think that? I was simply raised well."
This of course was as far from the truth as anything, she'd had no mother and a scum bag of a father, this lioness didn't need to know that sort of thing though, noone except Moses knew of her upbringing and she intended to keep it that way.

"Hmmm, I dunno really. Sometimes you can just tell. The way a lion carries themselves can tell a lot about their life," she began, actually sounding a little wise. And probably looking her age too.
"No matter how much you groom yourself, or how trim you keep, or how fit you think you are, your life will still show itself, no matter how hard you try to hide it," she sounded a little melancholy, regretful of some of her choices in life.
But it was only brief. That brief flash of an insecurity, a weakness, something that at least made Mapa 'human.' The grin returned.
"Raised well is code for sheltered," she chuckled.
The carcass was pretty much picked clean now, only the gubbings and skin left for the scavengers.

The dark and salmon streaked femme watched the blue female for a long moment in silence listening to her words. Words of wisdom were strange things and she didn't always take them to heart. It seemed, even to her, spoiled and selfish as she was that this female was her self for a quiet moment.
Afritti was quick to notice the change though and glared at the deep blue female. "What would you know? I was raised in the desert it's a hard life out there." She paused, it had far from been an acctual hard life for afritti, the oasis had water and creatures for kulling, it had been home for a very long time.
"You look at me with spoiled eyes clearly Mapa, I am far from some pampered pet." She gave a snort again, this female was intreguing, it wasn't often she could have a really good argument with someone, especially over her upbringing.

Out of the two, Mapa was probably the more spoiled. Her childhood was spent being waited on hand-and-foot by her parents, running them ragged with her demands. So, her self-reliance had to be learned the hard way - when her parents became too frail to keep her, she thought she'd easily go out and find another family or even a doting mate to do all the hard work.
But that didn't happen.
And so Mapa is a tough cookie, but given the chance, she'd easily go back to her laid-back days.
"Oh really? You defend your words so much. You don't like to be wrong, do you?"

The salmon streaked lioness grinned, a real smirk of a grin her pale fangs flashing between white lips. "I'v never been wrong before, so why change the habbit of a lifetime?" She laughes flickering her long tail with an air of superiority.

Mapa laughed, but it was a good kind of laughter. She'd met an adversary today, a worthy opponent of wits and attitude. Although she still thought she came out as the winner.
She rolled the carcass over a few times in the brief silence between them, expression focused and determined to find any scrap of meat or fat. But to no avail. It really was only fit for buzzards or hyenas now. She batted at it and pushed it to the side.
"I suppose you'll be wanting me gone then?" she said as she stood slowly and stretched. Her pelt really was quite beautiful and so complex and busy compared to Afritti's. Of course, it came with its own perils.
"I'll quench my thirst and be on my way."
