Personally I like Martha better because: ~she does not scream alot ~she is the first companion of a different colors (which I think is cool) ~she is brave ~she puts up with the Doctor even though she knows he will never notice her sad
Go Martha

I thought Martha was a good companion but I think the writers could've made the interactions between her and the Doctor a lot better.

Well, keeping in mind that due to the limited channels on my TV I've only seen one full episode with Martha in it, I happen to love her. The only full episode I've seen is 'The Shakespeare Code' (thank you, youtube!) and I thought she was adorable in that. I've seen clips of 'Utopia' and 'Sound of Drums' as well and I liked her in those too. She's adorable in a more savvy way than Rose was, and I enjoy her open-minded attitude.

I'll admit that I didn't like Martha in the beginning, she just seemed kind of whiny to me. That also may because I'm a huge Rose fan. Through-out the series though, she did grow on me. She'll never be my favorite, but I respect her and the fact that she could hold her own. biggrin

Of course Martha is the total opposite of Rose when it comes to dealing with the things that she and the Doctor have dealt with. She definitely doesn't panic the way Rose does, but then again that is Martha's charm. She's supposed to be different from Rose, and she's also got a lot more book learnin' what with her being a med student and all--something that Rose doesn't have. However, that doesn't make her any less adorable. She and Rose are both cool, even though I love Rose more, Martha manages to bring out a lot of cute facial expressions in the tenth Doctor that she ends up being pretty cool in my book. whee

I Really Like Martha, She is just adorable, i love the way her voice gets all high pitched and squeaky when shes happy. I also liked her interactions with the other characters, especially Captian Jack.

Well, I didn't like her for a long time. But, after experiencing somewhat what she did (unrequited love.. it's a b***h), I respect her a bit more. I still think she could've been written better as a character (as in.. less whiny), but I do respect her a little more.

I think Martha seemed too much like a replacement Rose, she was just another young girl in love with the Doctor. I thought Rose was awesome, but Martha just seemed like a wannabe Rose. I felt bad that she loved the Doctor and he didn't love her, but in all honesty, I didn't love her character either. sweatdrop She was... OK, and nothing more, in my view.

I liked Martha a lot more than Rose. She was smarter and braver, and she's probably my favorite companion.

I love Martha. She's so cool and brave. I like her more than Rose and every time I tell people this they're like "No! Rose is better! Martha is just some b***h!" when really who wouldn't fall in love with the 10th Doctor? Well, except for Donna, but Donna is just awesome. Rose got way too jealous of the fact that yes, the Doctor has been around for hundreds of years and yes, he's had other companions. Sure Martha was jealous of Rose but she had a reason to and she got over it. Her and Mickey are so cute. 3nodding

I liked Martha, but the way they wrote her made her seem like a failed experiment, with the making it unrequited love instead of just joining for the fun of it. Good things about her: 1. She was highly educated and worked as a Doctor in training. Only one other companion of the new series actually had a job that required schooling, and that's Rory. 2. She was a nice breath of fresh air after Rose. I felt Rose was too much "I love the Doctor and I'm going to travel with him forever." There is more, but for the sake of brevity I'm going to just go on to what I didn't like about her. Bad things: 1. She loved the Doctor. I'm not a fan of Doctor companion relationships. It ruins the Doctor and friends go whizzing around in the TARDIS, for me at least. 2. As I said before she seemed to much like a failed experiment. They wrote a character who, at least in the eyes of the writers, wasn't a very good character. So they did away with that character and brought on a colder, harsher, military person in season 4. I liked Martha, but the writers obviously didn't and it showed, watering down her character and making what could have been a great companion a rather average one.

Martha. Martha, Martha, Martha. No other character could've surprised me more after Rose and no other character could've given so much meaning to the Doctor than her. Unlike Rose, her love was not returned at all and in anyway while Rose, from the beginning, had her flirting and love returned. Unlike Donna, she wanted the relationship more than seeing the stars. Like both Rose and Donna, she matched the Doctor's intellect(as much as a human can), but she was what one might call "new.
She broke the rules of race(among humans), domestics(and you thought Jackie was bad!), and lessons learned from the Doctor. She was brilliant and knew it. Martha was the first black companion but she and her family had more character than most. She learned early on that her love wouldn't be returned and showed the Doctor just how well she could get on without him. However, where she differed from Rose and Donna was that she was willing to pick up a gun and let killing be a choice. Rose did use guns, but never against anything but Daleks and Cybermen.
Another thing, I think it's important to mention how her role was significant by not having her love returned. Davies loves to pull on the emotions, and in a sense, by having the Doctor not return Martha's romantic love, it allowed viewers to continue to love Rose as well as fully acknowledged his love for Rose. It said, "I'm not over her. I still love her," which really fit in for when Rose returned. If he'd returned Martha's love, Rose would've been another Sarah Jane Smith.
Martha was her own character and a fantastic one at that. She was the buffer for viewers when it came to the Rose relationship and showed how deep the Doctors love ran. He did love Martha, as he loved Donna, just in a different way. It wasn't romantic. She didn't live for and by the Doctor but as a human who had met the Doctor. That's really what I loved about her. After the Doctor, she moved on with her life and really pushed to achieve in life for herself in a human environment.
Basically, Rose and Donna were both bad-a**, but Martha was a different kind of bad-a** and a very awesome kind of it.

I kind of wished they didn't bring up the fact that the Doctor was always pining for Rose, despite Martha being there, but I did like the fact that Martha was educated, and the fact that since she was going to be a doctor, they were "on equal ground." The final episode really solidified Martha's part as the Doctor's companion in the fact that she singlehandedly followed the advice of the Doctor and was able to be an integral part in saving the world.
Rose will always be the "first' in my opinion, since I started watching for the revamped series, but Martha was always the more gutsy one, who was willing to take on challenges. Rose was to the 9th Doctor as Martha was to the tenth because I didn't think Rose complemented and brought out the true 10th Doctor as Martha did.
