Noyana had been in only once since she left those lands... not so long ago. Today was the day that Mat, Valse, Usu and she went back to the Pridelands for good. She was excited, she'd get to see her family, and she felt in her heart that this would be the beginning of righting wrongs. Of course, she kept this to herself. She had been the first to rise on this morning, she sat at the den mouth with her eyes intent in the direction of her homeland, thoughts racing. She turned her head over her shoulder, only Usu's bright coat could be seen in the darkness of the den. He was sleeping quite peacefully, and luckily, not gnawing on her tail. She chuckled, the pair of them were quite energetic. She wondered if Mat would sleep too long, if he would get up, the rest certainly would be easier. She wouldn't wake him, though, so she continued to wait.
"Valse, get off of me!" "I didn't do anything!" "Let go of my tail!" "I didn't do anything!" "GET OVER HERE!" "AH, MOM, FATHER'S HURTING ME!"
Suddenly silence. With a deep, rumbling growl, Mat came to the entrance with a dark cub placed in his maw and the brightest upon his back. Mat growled as he placed Usufii down beside him and growled around Valse's belly as he was held in his father's jaw. Unlike most lionesses, Mat held his cubs around their middle. Unable to speak, he could only growl around his son's fur.
"Dad said I was chewing on his ear this morning!" Mat growled , baring his fangs. He was lying again!
Noyana chuckled at all the noise, she couldn't help it. While it was starting to get annoying, she still found it cute. She could tell from Mat's growl's tone that Valse was lying. "Valse, that's because you were!" Usu exclaimed, now wide awake. He didn't say it in a harsh tone, he was only being honest. Noyana rolled her eyes and approached the young cub hanging in Mat's mouth. "Now Valse, don't lie. You know what happens when you lie?" She asked, answering the question before the cub could answer. "All sorts of badness, that's what. Don't. Lie." Lying was the reason they were out here in the first place- In Noyana's mind, the reason Mat had been practically beaten to a bloody pulp. A small growl escaped from her chest, though she'd tried to keep it down. Stupid lying Tahka... She wasn't too happy with Mjrn either. She always tried her best, though, to keep that negativity away from the cubs.
Mat dropped him carelessly and scoffed. "Whelp, you best stop lying or you going to end up like me. Out here, and you may not be as lucky as I to have your mother being a stubborn annoyance she is and stuck out here," he smirked and nudged her. He did care about her, finding her a stubborn annoyance he found grateful for. If it were not for her, he would have been out here for ages, lost without a female to aid him, no family to help, no pride to protect him. Though, having her around was pleasurable, she did keep him in line somewhat.
Valse fell with a slight thud and growled, huddling under his mother. "I'll be more lucky than you if I did!" he growled and hunkered down beside Usufii. he lied all the time and he only got caught half the time, so it was more fun to see how they foolish believed his lies. However, when it came to this father, it was a lot harder to lie to him! The more he lied, the more truth his father pulled from it! He preferred being with his mother but he did enjoy the fun times when his father wasn't pissed at him.
"So are we gonna go? This den is getting to small for us now that he have these two."
Noyana glared at the cub when he gave himself an excuse to lie. "Your father's absolutely right. Except for the annoying part. We'll start thinking up a more strict punishment if you keep it up, Valse. No lying." She knew Mat was joking, and she was learning how to be stern. While most of the time Valse got away with his lies with Noy, she promised herself she'd spend more time mulling over whether the words the boy spoke. She would not be having a Tahka personality for a son, of that she was sure.
"I'm ready to go if you are," Noyana said with a nod. Inside her, excitement churned. She really wanted to see her family again and introduce the boys to them. Mat wouldn't like them staying with her family, but certainly an introduction would be alright. She flicked her ear to make sure she had her feather, and she raised a paw to her neck to be sure the necklace was still there- it was.
"I'm ready to go too," Usufii said. He was sick of these roguelands, he wanted to go meet the rest of his family. He was eager for a bigger living space, and ultimately, more freedom. He wasn't allowed to wander here, he was sure he'd be allowed to in the Pridelands.
Mat nodded and walked on past her. He was looking forward to finally going home, perhaps he had not learned everything there was to better himself, but he had to go home. Adonai's words worried him, his mother was not feeling well. Something was ailing her, but what could it be? He growled to himself as he looked on to the horizon. He was going home now... with his own family.
"Lets go, don't want them waiting on us," he smirked and started off. Valse looked up at his mother, to his brother, and to his father. He had to admit, his brother was his oldest brother. His mother was big and strong, but still pretty. But his father was so big and strong, it was a real scary thought that if he really crossed his father, he would be dead. He just always had the feeling that he was always on his father's good side. if you called it that. With a thought, he quickly followed after his father.
"Go on ahead, Usu," Noyana told the boy. She wanted an adult on each end of their little caravan. She hadn't ever forgotten the sight of Mat in a pool of blood, almost dead. Nor had she ever forgotten how he used to get mad at her for going out to the nearest water hole for fear his father would rip her to shreds. No, he was still out there, and she knew he was to be taken seriously. Heaven only knew if he was hiding somewhere... She'd do anything for these cubs, though she'd only had them for a little while.
Usu was unsure of why his mother wanted them in a particular order, but he obeyed and followed Valse. It wasn't long, though, before he pulled up to his side. "Let's play a travel game. How about... I spy?" he asked, desperate to avoid boredom. Even though he personally thought I spy was a lame game, it'd be better than just walking in silence.
"Where are we going first when we get there, to your mother's?" Noyana asked over the cubs to Mat. She was curious, and she was sure that Tiah would like to meet Valse.
"Yes... Adonai's words worry me. I may not have told anyone my feelings about them, but I do care about my mother. If she is ill, I must see her immediately. I do not want to regret not seeing her sooner... but I thought you needed me more," he spoke as he walked. His messy fur and mane rolled over his muscles with each step. Mat was becoming a fine male, if it was just solely based on his appearance. His deep green eyes turned to the side and looked toward their flank. The paranoia was around, but not as strong as before. "Don't worry about my father, with the two of us, we can handle just fine." He remembered the fight quite clearly. He slipped up... he messed up... he had lost and the scars all over him proved it. His father's existence was proof. The scars were already healing after the opened back up after a while when Noyana had spoken her feelings and their desires became feral. But they healed just as they should, constant reminds of his father's wrath should he step out of line again.
Valse nudged his older brother and looked around. "Fine, I spy with my red eyes something dead-leh," he dropped the last part of the word as he smirked at his brother. Come now, what could be deadly out here in the rogue lands? Blood thirsty vultures, rogue lions, hyenas, jackals, snakes, thorn bushes, scorpions... actually quite a lot. Valse kept his attention on two things; his father and his mother. Why were they walking so far apart? father before them and mother behind them. It was creepy and it made him curious.
"Noy, come up here with me, I do not trust you back there by yourself," he spoke out as he focused on the path before them. Being behind him, he did not know what was going on back there. That made him worry. He looked back at her and to the cubs. "Both of you, walk between us where I can keep an eye on you." you as in Valse.
Yes, that was a better idea. Noyana padded up beside Mat, leaving a gap between the two of them so the cubs could walk there. "I'm sure it's tough," Noyana said to Mat. "Poor Tiah." While Tiah was not her mother, and she only barely knew the lioness, she knew that Mat must have a bond with her like what Noyana and Na'Ilah had. She couldn't imagine what she'd do if her own mother was unwell. A troubled look spread across her muzzle, but only for a moment. She didn't allow it to stay long, though. She had heard her son, Valse's I-spy topic. She acted uninterested other than focusing her attention further on what he'd say... and her ears turned a lot more attentive to the landscape around them.
"Deadly...." Usu said as if Valse had said "green" instead; as if it was no big deal. He took a look around, green eyes searching for said deadly thing. He came to no other conclusion, perhaps his brother was joking around? "Dad?" he offered with a chuckle. He knew his dad could be deadly, but never to them.
Mat gave a backward glance and then a sideward to Noyana, perhaps she knew what he was also thinking. With a casual turn of his head, he quickly scanned the flanks as a soft growl emitted from his chest. If his son was talking about his father, then this was no longer a game. When Usu had said it was him, he calmed a bit but hoped that Valse did choose him and was not lying.
"But who else, you? Mother could be deadly if she wanted to, but if you saw Father hunt, hah, you dun wanna be the prey," he could recall one time when Valse was wandering around the den when he saw Mat hunt close by. He was not as fast as mother, but the carnage he could bring out was scary. The kill usually came back in pieces. He had always thought father had taken a snack before returning home. "You got it."
Mat sighed, a slight smirk came to his face when he heard his son... 'compliment' him. He smirked over at Noyana, one she might have seen him use quite often by now. "You're mothers as good a hunter, she did catch me."
Usu was suddenly proud of answering his brother's trick question correctly... Now could he come up with something as witty as that? "Alright, my turn... Let's see..." he said, delaying for time as they padded ever closer to the Pridelands. Noyana glanced over at Mat with a small relieved sigh. She had a feeling that they both had tensed when little Valse had suggested something deadly was about. She shook her head just the slightest bit with a smile. Valse was quite the trouble-maker, even when he wasn't trying to be one.
To Mat's compliment about her hunting, Noy blushed, but only a little. It wasn't noticeable through the fur. "My meals are easier to transport, though." Noyana said with a smirk to her mate. She knew that his meals came back in chunks, and she also knew that chunky meals were harder to carry to a den. One can't fit everything in their mouth, carrying one thing is much easier than carrying many. She considered them both great hunters, but Noyana was a more... efficient one. She killed and that was it. She was quick about it, chase, trip, kill, and that was all the more there ever was. If she failed to trip, there was no extra biting or damaging injuries. Mat... Mauled... things... sometimes. She smiled at the thought- that was so him.
Usu finally came up with an I-spy topic. "...uh... I've got it! I spy with my green eyes, something huge!" It was looming on the horizon, a sight he'd never seen before as Noyana had. Pride Rock.
"Well, at least I don't play with the things I catch," he smirked again. Jeez, he had to find something else to think about other than his mate, how to break Valse, and if Usu had anything mean in him at all. The father looked at his family, one he had created with Noy, it was a strange feeling. Welcomed but still strange. If he was going to return home, it seemed that he was going to have to find a den close to the families if he wanted to be his own individual than just another part of the family. However, one close so the cubs could go unescorted.
"Dad. Mom. Tree. Elephant. Cheetah. Wildebeest. Buffalo. Giraffe. Zebra. Face it, Usu, almost everything is huge to us. We're cubs!" he shrugged and looked around taking this seriously. Well, the things he named off were indeed huge, even for his size. As he looked out, he saw it too and pointed. "That big pointy thing. If you aren't spying that, I am going to wrestle you until you do."
Mat casually hit him with his tail as he took a few steps forward. It had been a long time since he was here. The father looked at his mate and smiled a bit. "It seems like we have come back home again, and this time, with some extra heads," he spoke, hinting toward the cubs. It had been so long since he had been here. It was their home, their birth place, where their pride was, their family. He learned a little about the importance of pride, family, and the respect of females. ... well, thanks to Noyana for that. Without her, he would have still seen females as an annoying hindrance. But without her, he would have died of hunger. He would have died of dehydration. If it were not for her, he would be without the family and mate he had. Family was what kept him safe, a pride provided and gave him a place to rest. There were probably deeper meanings but, what he knew would suffice for now. He nuzzled his mate, an uncommon gesture, and murmured.
"We're home."
"Yeah, that big pointy thing's what it was!" Usu said. "Honestly!" His father, brother, and mother were really the only lions he submitted entirely to. Why his brother, he had no idea, but he just did. Usufii wanted more than anything, a good relationship with his brother. Perhaps because of what he'd overheard of his uncle Tahka, perhaps just because of some other reason. The gods only knew
Noyana smiled at her mate. "We are home indeed." She said proudly. Mat probably didn't feel the same as she did at simply the sight of Pride Rock. She felt... well... Proud. She honestly thought that, despite its flaws, the Pridelands were the best pride there was. Perhaps this had been instilled in her by Tufah so long ago, or maybe simply from having lived there. Despite the corruption, despite the idiots on the throne, she honestly felt that she could change it. In that way, Noyana was extremely naive, but she believed it. Mat, though, she knew, disliked the Pride, though he was getting better about it. She doubted he felt as patriotic as she did, though. She felt, however, he had good reason. It was his family that had been wronged, not her own.
"Well, boys, this is it!" Noyana said as they walked, looking down at the pair, then up at her mate. Yes, this time she crossed the Prideland borders, things would be completely different. She wouldn't return to her home right away, and she wouldn't be spending most of her time there, either.
Valse smirked and tried to run off before he was snatched up by his father. The open safe lands that rolled out before him was too much of an urge to just get out there. His father had told him that the Pride Lands was the safest place for anyone to be. He smirked as the cub grumbled in his maw. Before placing him down, he gave a glance to Usufii to show him what may happen if he ran off too. He slightly squeezed his maw to cause Valse to wiggle.
"ALRIGHT, I WON'T RUN! MOM, TELL DAD TO PUT ME DOWN!"
Mat smirked and just walked on ahead toward home, where he remembered his family to be based. It would be good to see their faces again. Tahka with Mjrn would be a usual sight. Haiba ans Shou as their usual. Tufah to be about toying with Someone. Sarafina would likely be with Tahka otherwise off somewhere. Tiah should be home with that Adonai if what he said was true. Being back in the Pride Lands did not distill some sort of feeling in him, what gave him more of a feeling was that he was home. With his own family, both of them.
Mat walked on silently as Valse grumbled and demanded his mother to get his father to release him.

"Your father will put you down if he wants," Noyana said smartly, in a "you deserved it" tone.
Usu chuckled on the ground. Yes, this was why he wasn't quite as... obvious as his brother. He had learned it from his mother, though she hadn't ever said a thing, nor had she ever tried to teach him anything on this topic: When people trust you, it's easier to deceive them and get away with it. Get people to trust you, and then you can essentially get away with what you please, if you're careful about it. Usu was "the good son." They didn't keep nearly as close of an eye on him as they did on Valse. Of course, he'd never show this. Nor would he ever really deceive his parents, but he had a feeling the skill would become useful in the pride full of golden-coats. He smirked up to his brother, the same "you deserved it" look on his face as the one on Noyana's.
His insistence was only annoying the adolescent more, though. "The longer you gripe, the longer you'll be carried." Noyana said firmly. "Right Mat?" She asked quickly, before the cub could respond. She did want him to be quiet.

Mat carelessly, again, dropped him. "Either you behave while you are here or you ain't going anywhere. Don't think I will think twice before I hurt you, Valse." he scoffed as he headed on, stopping just on the nearby hill.
Valse grumbled as he laid on the ground as his father left him. Why was he being so mean!? Why was everyone being so mean? It was not like he meant in harm in things he does. The lies were a facade, perhaps they were true. Perhaps they were not. Was it his fault that everyone believed his lies? Was it his fault that everyone didn't? The choice reflected themselves, their choices, their paths, he just forced them to choose. To believe or not the believe did not matter on him, it was theirs. The cub grumbled as he walked under his mother.
"I hate father..."

Noyana had been about to tell him that it was true, that his father wouldn't think twice about hurting him, when he said those three words. The middle one was one she'd not wanted in that sentence. In that moment, Noyana found herself quite hurt, even though it wasn't she that the cub hated. She was split, she loved both Valse and Mat, she didn't want a rift between the two of them. She would speak with Mat later, when they were alone, on this matter, but for now, Valse would be who she'd speak to. She was unsure if Mat heard the cub.
She stopped and lowered her head to his. These words weren't meant for Usu, she wanted to prevent as many spats as she could between the brothers. "Valse," Noy said softly. "Your father's just worried about you. He wants you to be safe, that's all. He just has an odd way of expressing it, trust me." Noyana said, remembering him yelling at her to go home and leave him alone on many occasions. "Maybe next time you want to run somewhere, let him know, and don't be unpredictable about it." She offered. "Don't hate him just because he worries for you." She offered him a smile, nuzzled him, and rose to her feet again. She looked down at the darker boy to be sure he'd be alright to keep walking before she continued.
And Usu was caught in an awkward position. He found himself rather in the middle of a fight he didn't want to be in the middle of. His mother said some words to Valse, he couldn't hear what they were, but he could hear they were being spoken. He glanced to his father, then to his mother and his brother before he padded quickly up to his father silently, not wanting to get in the middle of it. He had a "good boy" reputation to keep up. He didn't say a word.

"Well, Dad has a weird way of showing it!" he exclaimed to make sure Matishou heard him. Quieter, "But it's always me that he yells at. Unlike Usu, I am the one who gets dropped all the time, though, I'm used it to. Got to land on those feet next time... but why is it always me?" he asked as he walked on closer to his father and brother.
Mat's ear flicked as he looked back.
"Because I just love to torment you," with a roll of his eyes, he smirked down at his sons and then to Noyana. With a gesture over his shoulder, he looked out into the savanna where the family den was. It was a little longer, but they should be able to get there before night fall. Hopefully, he would be welcomed with open arms.
"Come, we should get there and hope that they caught enough to feed four more, otherwise, your mother will have to go hunting," he bent down to his cubs. "Lets run and leave her behind. Beat me and I will leave you alone for three moons."
Without a word more, Valse quickly high tailed it down the hill and toward the den. It was not hard to miss and he was sure it was right. Mat quickly ensued and headed in the same directions to confirm it. Wait.... HE WAS LOSING!

Before Noyana could answer her son's questions, Mat had suggested a race, and it looked like all of the males had gotten a head start on her. "Very funny!" she called after, though she held back some, knowing how bad Valse, if not Usu as well, would want the prize. She caught up to an extent, still holding back a bit.
Usu, too, was off quickly with such a tempting offer. He, like his mother, was still a bit behind Valse, though he was behind because he genuinely had started off just a moment too late and was simply behind his brother. He ran with all the speed his little lion legs could muster.

Valse slowly came into a full out sprint, trying his best to get his reward. With that, no more dropping! No more yelling, scolding, or tail hitting! It would be awesome! He ran as fast as he could as his father slowed down. The cub had seen his father run and he was fast, perhaps not as fast as mother, but he was a good deal faster than the cubs.
"Mom, Dad's cheating! He just hit me with his tail, take him out!"
Mat laughed.
"You think your mother will aid you, whelp, trust me, I got this one," he gave a cocky grin as he slowly increased speed into what some would call a 'trot'.

Noyana chuckled and shook her head behind the pair of them. While he caused some trouble, Valse was highly entertaining. She didn't say a word in response to the cub's request. While sometimes it was amusing that he always summoned her to force Mat to do something, sometimes, in more serious matters, she found it very difficult. Noyana couldn't just pit herself against Mat for no reason, but she did hate choosing who to support. She slowly caught up with Mat. "Did you really hit him with your tail?" she asked in a curious tone once the cubs were out of earshot; non-accusatively.
Usufii, too, put in his strongest burst of energy, though the tip of his nose only just met about where the front end of Valse's hip was as they ran.

Valse closed his eyes and ran a bit faster after Noyana had passed him and Usu was catching up. Crap, he was slowing down! He was losing even more now! He could not lose, he had to win. His competitive spirit said so!
Mat smirked. "Perhaps, but I did earlier, why does it matter? It's not like I forcefully hit him. A flick is all it takes to get that one to complain about something. Are you gonna be a good girl and listen to your son or gonna be a mother and scold him for giving his mother a demand?" Mat could be toying too, but not like tahka or anyone else. He did it out of play and amusement now that he grasp the concept. However, he found it a bit harder to do with a smart girl like her.
"Mom, Dad's winning!"

Noyana mulled over his words as time ran short. They were getting close to Mat's target... And she found herself forced, once again, to either side with Mat or Valse. If she satisfied Mat, Valse would be sad, and probably disappointed. But both she and Mat needed that authority over the pair of them. If Mat had to leave Valse alone... For three moons? Noy didn't like the sound of it. "I'm trusting you," she said so quietly that only Mat could hear. "You decide if they win or lose." She could have used for a decision made by someone else right about now anyway.
Usufii half-expected Noyana to pick up Valse and run faster than Mat, he knew she could. But she seemed to hold back. He pondered on it as he ran, but that only made him fall behind. If mom wouldn't help Valse, Usu would. He sped up the slightest, now at the maximum speed, and he pulled up to Valse's second-to-last rib bone. "I'm going to beat you Valse!" He said, as if he really would. He hoped it would give his brother the strength to pull ahead.

Mat smirked and passed a few sideward glances before pouncing upon her, "Gotcha! I can't let you win, otherwise I cannot, now that's a bit of a problem, ain't it?" by then, Valse and Usufii had already passed them. Oh well, they were easy to catch up to. Mat looked down at his female, slightly out of breath himself but not a single bead of sweat. "You are too fast for your own good, you know that?"
Valse cheered to himself that something happened, but his father was the one who had done it! He had taken out his mother in the race! Great, so now his only competition was his big brother and currently, Valse was winning! If he kept it up, he could possibly win this race. With a burst of speed, he quickly raced toward the den area.
Mat licked Noy's maw before darting off for the cubs. After all, a good father doesn't leave them alone for long.

Mat had surprised Noyana completely by pouncing her, an action she hadn't expected. She chuckled as she rolled up to her paws, rolling her shoulder that he'd hurt a little. Nothing she couldn't shrug off. "Darn, I was hoping for 3 moons without being bothered," Noyana joked quietly to herself as she bolted again. They were already far far ahead of her, but Noyana wasn't about to be one to go down without a fight. A determined expression quickly came onto her face, the same one she'd always put on since her cubhood. Her paws flew across the lands, and if one didn't know better, they'd think she was a cheetah. (Though, she couldn't run nearly as fast as a cheetah.) Noyana was a yellow blur with a lime-green end. They were still too far ahead, though.
Usu started to slow, he wasn't nearly as determined as Valse was, for the end prize didn't mean nearly as much to him as it did to his brother. His nose was now about level with Valse's tail tip, but he wasn't going to give up. He wanted to beat his mother there, rather than his father.

Valse stopped short of the den.
"I WIN!" he shouted.
Mat smirked and brushed passed Usu and dove at Valse, rolling a bit before placing the cub on his chest. The den was still a bit away, but he did not want to startle the family by having cubs running at them and running around wondering where the finish was. In fact, he never did. Mat grinned and nipped his son.
"I do not recall saying this was the end of the race, Valse. I didn't say stop here," he chuckled. "How about I just leave you all alone for three moons, no yelling, or anything. Just me bein' there." he spoke.
Valse cheered himself and flopped off his father.
"I'm free!"

Usufii saw out of the corner of his eye that Mat was zooming in, then he saw a much blurrier zoom. His mother had stopped her paws altogether and was attempting a very short breaking distance, but she somehow managed. Usu pounced his dad's tail, gnawing on it gently, more getting it slobbery than chewing on it. He abandoned this quickly and pounced at his brother after his exclamation.
"Valse is right," Noyana said holding one paw up to help it cool off. "You do cheat." Her green eyes narrowed, but her tone was entirely playful. She chuckled at Valse's cheer, and padded over to Mat. She gave him only a smile and a belated returned lick on the muzzle, though it was more for what he did for Valse than as "payback." "You're an awesome dad, Mat." she said honestly before turning her gaze to the playing cubs. "An awesome dad..." she said more quietly to herself. She was sure that soon enough, he would make Tiah proud.
