It was so familiar, every detail. The long green grass, the flowers dotting the fields, the silhouette of Pride Rock in the distance. Tain had taken the lead, immediately knowing where he was as if every contour of the land was ingraved in his brain. The young lion could feel his heart pounding against his chest, mouth dry and eyes wide, hopeful. He was home.

His pace was fairly slow, not used to moving such a long distance, and he looked forward to taking a long nap when he got him. But there were more important matters at hand. Family.

"We're close," he said without looking over his shoulder.

Cam had gladly moved back, readily letting Tain lead. He felt so loose and relaxed, not a care in the world. For a while he had given Kaihdin a break, covering their tracks for her, and then he had helped Ishida keep a lookout. Now that they were well into the Pridelands, these things weren't necessary, and so he trailed lazily behind his friend, comforted by being in the small group. The others (he refused to think of them by name) seemed so far away now.

"Just let us know what to do, Tain," he said with a soft, content sigh. "I don't think any of us want to intrude on your family time."

For most of the trip, Kaihdin had diligently swept their tracks into the dust, even after she thought it was a safe distance from what used to be 'home.' Just in case, she told herself.
Just in case.

Tain's soft comment about their closeness to his family reached her ears, and she pricked them forward as her eyes continued to take in their new surroundings. She wondered what they would be like, his family. Would they welcome them with open arms? Would they be suspicious? Would she and her brothers be totally forgetten as Tain was welcomed back into the family once more?

She gave a half-hearted smile at the thought. If the latter occured, she wouldn't blame them. She'd do the same, on either end of the party: whether she was returning home, or having a loved one return to her after so long.

Ishida had been on edge since they had left, a certain nagging feeling bothering her since they had left. He knew how their other sister would be, Ezrebet, and hoped that she didn't bother to try to trail them either. After quite a while, and many long paw prints later, it seemed that they were safe. His tense muscles ached as he turned his attention back to Tain and his sibilings, the smile across his face faint as he heard that they were near the end of their trip. Finally.

"It's so...different," he said, his grey eyes looking out at the Pridelands. True, it was very different from the lands where he had grown his whole life, but that didn't mean he should gawk about it, either.

Her paws hurt. She had never walked so far before, in such a short amount of time. She had lost track of the hours, the minutes since the runaway. Her eyes were drooping slightly with fatigue; her tail was sore from being wrapped around their life-saving branch for most of the trip.

"It is," she sighed aloud. "But it seems like a good different. I kind of thought there was always a cloud hanging over my head, back with Roho." The unconscious action of referring to her mother by her name came naturally, and she was glad. Kaihdin would never call the lioness by 'mother' again. "And now there's nothing stopping me from anything," she added happily.

The grass was greener, and though it was a considerably open atmosphere, it was still welcoming.

Tain was too caught up in his own emotions, a mixture of joy and uncertainty, to notice anything that his companions were saying. Was his family near? It had been much too long for him to remember exactly where their den was. They still lived here, right? Fear welled up in his chest. What if they had left after he was kidnapped, to save his siblings from the same fate? No, surely they would've stayed, he reassured himself. Surely...

Cam nodded at his siblings, ignoring Tain for the time being. "Yeah," he agreed, although he felt a bit stupid about it. Kaihdin had said things more eloquently than he ever could. "It's... nice."

Ishida's dark grey eyes looked over to Tain, concerned over his reaction. He didn't seem to pleased, but perhaps they were not at the right place yet? Time could certainly make things fuzzy. Even though they hadn't left their old home too long ago, some of the details of life was blurred. It almost made him feel guilty, but he knew that he'd step away from it and live his own life. Maybe Tain didn't see exactly what he was expecting?

The lion shook his head, his white mane covering his face for a moment. No, he shouldn't worry about it. If it was the wrong place, they'd find the home that Tain needed to go to.

He let the grass tickle his paws, something so green, cool, and soft. He thought he might almost like it here. Mattering on how the future went with his sibilings, anyway.

"Almost like the world is opening itself for us to discover." Something cheesy for the male to say, but dealing with the escape had forced him to mature a bit in those dangerous moments. If they had been caught....well, he didn't want to know what would have happened.

Auri was innocently taking a walk around her usual path--around the rock cluster, two steps away from all the boulders at all times, zig-zag around that particular patch of grass--when she suddenly heard voices. Her paws jumped quickly to hide her body behind one of the boulders.

It was lions.
Four of them.
One was white, with neutral and brown markings. For some reason, she thought he looked rather familiar. The other three looked like siblings: black, purple, white. And they didn't look like Pridelanders, except for the first one. So what were they doing here? She decided to follow them and announce her presence when the time was right.

Kaihdin giggled, nudging Ishida reassuringly in her agreement with his "cheesy" statement. He was cute like that, she thought. Cute as in the "Awww, that's such a sweet thing to say/do!" that made her proud to have him as a brother. Not the other kind. Ew.

They continued on, passing through the Pridelands quietly and confidently. No one noticed them, no one came out and questioned their objectives and why, exactly, they were in these lands in the first place. Though Tain certainly still looked the part of a Pridelander, she and her brothers weren't exactly subtle-looking, either.

"Do you know how close we are, Tain? If it's a good bit longer, I say we stop and rest for a little bit. I know I'm tired, so you three must be, too. And a little shade and some water wouldn't hurt. But if it's close, I'm pretty sure we can wait."

Tain's ears twitched, his eyes narrowing as the new scent hit his nose. It was somewhat familiar, which confused him. How could a scent be familiar, when he could not even remember his siblings' names, and barely remember his parent's faces? It all came in a sudden flood, the memories he thought had been lost forever. His siblings, his parents, the cubs he had played with when he was hardly more than a newborn. Logically, it seemed impossible for him to know - but with a sudden certainty, a sudden conviction, he knew that it was his sister's scent. "We're close," he managed to say, his throat constricted.

Cam frowned slightly, glancing around. He did not know what Tain had sensed - to him, Auri's scent mingled with all the old scent plastered around the place - but it had obviously affected him.

"Great!" he said with a tentative smile, unsure of what else to say - or rather, unsure that anything else needed to be said.

Ishida's ears swiveled towards Tain, the emotions in his voice putting the young male on edge. Hopefully it was a good thing, but with everything they had been through he liked to be overly cautious. Pausing, he sniffed the air, only catching scents he couldn't recognize. "Well, let's not rush into things," he said. Could the guarantee that they were safe out here? Only time would tell.

His grey eyes scanned the horizon as he drew back to stick close to Cam, feeling comforted to have something similar near him. Ishida always thought that he would welcome change, but now he wasn't so sure. Everything was new, and almost too new. He'd never want to return, no, but he felt like he might be too nervous and edgey to really relax.

Auri's keen green eyes watched them carefully. It didn't seem like they were out to do any harm, so she didn't see any reason to make herself known to them. After all, who was to say that they wouldn't turn on her when she showed herself, even if it seemed like they were peaceful right now? The smell that the first male gave off was utterly and astonishingly familiar to the lioness. There was no way that some stranger could have such an affect on her brain, but here it was. The thought scared her, but excited her even more. Her parents and brothers hadn't seen Tain in months...could it be?

Kaihdin nodded with a smile. "That is good news." She couldn't help but hear the faint creak in Tain's voice. Did he know something that they didn't? Of course he did. Silly question. He knew exactly where they were going. He knew exactly where his family's den was. But she couldn't help but feel, to know, that something had just happened. Something important.

"There's someone nearby," he said with some effort, softly enough that only his companions could hear. "And I... I know the scent. I don't know how, but I know it, and I think it's my sister." Tain glanced at each of them in turn, willing someone, any of them, to say something, try and draw her closer, because he could not find any more words.

Cam blinked at Tain, but couldn't conceal a smile. He knew that his friend was unable to speak, so surprised by the turn of events, so he took it on himself to push things forward.

"Whoever's out there, don't worry, we're not gonna hurt you. Tain here says that he knows your scent. Do you know him?" His voice was loud and clear, something rather new for the dark-furred lion.

Ishida couldn't help but find it odd, Cam's declaration to the stranger that was out there. He wouldn't have done it, but then, there were a lot of differences between them. His ears perked upwards as he looked around, his senses straining to hear something. Scent would only broadly let him know where this other was, and nothing definite.

Worry flashed over his face as he clanged towards Tain. He didn't understand what emotions were going on in his mind, but he only hoped that it was a good thing. They had done all of this for him, there was no way that he could be upset. He lowered his head, nodding towards Tain. "If you think it's her, then it probably is." Have more faith in yourself, he thought.

Kaihdin couldn't help but back up closer to Cam, though she knew her brother was doing the right thing. They needed to know who this strange lion was, and why they were out here in the first place. Tain thought it was his sister. Cam thought so, too. But could they really be safe with that assumption? She would like for it to be true. Gods knew that meeting a relative of Tain now would be easy and would help them back to Tain's family. But she trusted Cam. And she trusted Tain.

"Tain?" Auri's voice whispered out into the wind as she slowly, carefully, revealed herself from behind the boulder. She knew him; she did. His coat, his scent, his hint of a smile...all of it was truly him.

Auri's eyes were probably the widest that they could ever be. In her entire life, she had never heard of such a fortune coming true. Tain had come back. He had come back to them.
