Maw set into a grim line of determination, Sukari moved across the Savannah, pausing only briefly when she noticed she'd strayed just a tad to near the pridelander's home. Her lips raised into a silent growl, head raising into the air to sniff the air; to close. Granted, she would have risked herself in a fight one on one, however, the prideland territory was 'notorious' for being prosperous, which meant a large population of lions inhabited it. Reading in between lines, that meant that no doubt, were a fight to break out, it wouldn't be one on one.
Sukari might've been over-confident in her ability to fight, however, she was far from stupid. Reckless, maybe, however, as age was starting to creep on her shoulders, she'd learnt a thing or two; one of them was an unfair fight where odds were not tilting in her favour was not something she needed. At least not at the moment, when her Fenris' vanishing act still weighted heavily on her soul. This in mind, the lioness moved to turn around, padding in the opposite direction, her pelt bristling when she noticed that someone was nearby, just up ahead.
Allowing her head to tilt back, she let out a heavy sigh, rolling her eyes in a way that seemed to scream she didn't quite wish to deal with any idiots today; she had no patience left in her, and knowing herself, she'd lash out instantly. Which would lead to an unfair fight, and... well, she'd gone down that train of thought. Today was not meant to be her day, now was it? Closing her eyes, her maw once more set into a grim line, she moved on, determined not to lose what little dignity she had left after recent events.
People, she thought languidly, no ******** decency these days. Slaves were no longer content to stay slaves, and sons abandoned their mothers. Where was the world coming to? Where was it all leading to, if nothing in it worked like it ever should? Such thoughts haunted the lioness' eyes when she padded nearer where her instincts told her the other lion rested.
Upon reaching the place in question (a large flat rock surrounded by dry grass), she was able to lay eyes on the individual in question. Lioness, her mind corrected itself, a brow arching slightly as she passed nearby, "Morning," she said, gruffly, but the greeting was there nevertheless as she moved onward. There was something about the lioness that rested on the rock, that made Sukari pause however, her head turning completely to regard her, face to face, and as much as she tried to quell the thought, it sprung, time and time again to the front of her mind. When she looked at her... she could see herself, "Sunbathing," she said with a snort, "Won't make the world any more decent," it was said almost to herself, yet voiced for the other female to hear.

Sarafina's dark ear twitched towards the stranger as she appeared over the top of one of the Savannah's rolling hills. She'd never much thought about it, but there weren't many "rolling" hills in the Savannah, until you got close to Pride Rock, a fact she could now see at the western border. Strange, that, but nothing to be taken too seriously, she supposed. Perhaps it was just that there were so very many things she had to think about, to worry about, these days that she found herself plagued by the tiny, insignificant details rather than suffer the annoyance of what she "should" have been paying attention go.
Like her ******** brother.
Her ear flicked again in annoyance. "Brothers" was more like it, for two of them were constantly at war with one another, and herself, though she'd done little to deserve it. Not that she ever thought for an instant that life would be "fair" about such things, they were both completely convinced of being in the right, no doubt, and nothing she could say would change their minds. No matter, she could always beat them into submission, but it worked ever so much better when submission came willingly than naught.
Still, she figured she would track down Tahka eventually.. or else that little b***h of his. At the moment, this needed her attention and her emerald eyes turned to watch the lioness coming near her.
This one was oddly coloured, Sara thought though she'd seen much, much worse, but more significantly she was small. There was no illusion to Sara's mind that this female wasn't an adult, she was and obviously so, yet Sara thought she could match her pound for pound. The adolescent sniffed, scarred eyes narrowing a little as she looked the female over. There was something familiar about this one...
"Sunbathing won't make the world any more decent."
A snort registered from Sarafina, amused yet indifferent. The statement was odd, out of place.. and completely strange to be saying to a stranger of any sort... yet she didn't mind. Actually, it was true to the point of being unsettling for the thoughts Sara had just been reflecting on. "No, but it does help to deal with the indecencies." She replied, a mild laugh at the bottom of her voice. "Though why a lionesses sneaking about our borders is feels the need to tell me so is a puzzle."

A snort, followed rather closely by a sneer, however, neither sounds were directed at Sarafina; it was quite obvious Sukari was snorting at herself and her own actions, though why she felt the need to do so was unclear, "Hardly sneaking," she replied, giving the younger lioness a deadpan look, "Even a moron would've been able to see me coming from a distance, with the sound I was making," rolling her eyes, once more at herself, as if feeling the need to mentally kick herself for doing something so stupid, the lioness continued, "Not so much sneaking as.... accidentally straying too far out of my path; tends to happen when one thinks too much. One strays away from where she needs to go to, or be."
Why was she even talking to this female?
The thought strayed her mind several times, yet each time she tried to answer it, rebuke that she was about to leave, that she didn't give a bloody damn, she saw herself, younger, in her mind's eye. Each time the image was different, but the purpose of it was the same, and it kept Sukari rooted to the spot, making her stay rather than leave. It was mildly off putting for her, and yet at the same time, welcomed, for it was a distraction from recent happenings in her life. Something deep down; an instinct perhaps, told her that this female would've known what she was talking about. That much was obvious by her own words, "Got demons of your own I see," a pause as she narrowed her blue colored eyes, the scar that rested under own eye tensing with the movement, "And let's just say... you remind me of someone I never thought I'd see again."
Tilting her head, she turned to face Sarafina fully, resting her body, sitting down with her tail curled about her paws. It was a clear indication something had caught her attention yet just what... was impossible to say; it might've been the hint of laughter withing the younger female's voice, or perhaps the way her eyes had narrowed down. Regardless, Sukari figured that this was not the time to impose her strength upon the land. Not to mention she'd not had an intelligent conversation in ages, "Keeping your mind away from it won't make it go away," she sneered at this, "Take it from me," for after all 'taking her mind away from it all' had been the excuse she'd given her mate that morning when she'd walked away.
She'd needed time to think, and thinking had brought her nothing more than a bitterness due to actions past due she could not change, "Can't change the past and all."

"No, changing the past is impossible," Sarafina agreed with that same sort of amusement she had shown earlier. There was a part of her that wished to be rude, to ask what the female wanted, talking to her like th is... Patience had finally been shoved upon Sarafina's form. Perhaps it was age that had done it, or perhaps it was the incredible amounts of drama her family was known to kick up. Or, more likely, a combination of the two. Patience was now something it seemed she had in, if not an abundance, a good enough amount to deal with a very random conversation. It wasn't as if the person speaking to her were some overly-happy moron or over-emotional t**t. She'd be fairly amused, later, to find out that this lioness shared a name with one of the later, that Sarafina was also attached to. "But it isn't the past that some of us are concerned with changing."
She'd only spoke of plans to a few others in her time, and indeed... the "plan" they'd had was quickly falling apart with Tahka's current state of delusion. Again her thoughts returned to him! Sarafina gave an impatient snarl at the wind, eyes glancing back towards the distant landmark of pride rock. What was his issue anyway? She shook her head to clear it and stretched upon her rock, claws grating against it.
"Distance from a problem can help, sometimes," She gave an easy shrug of her shoulders, then, relaxing once more. The female wasn't attacking and she could tell that she was no pridelander. She didn't smell like one, for one thing, even if her physical form hadn't been as much an indication of it. "It gives you time to plan, to consider.. and to counter." Not once did she ask what the other's problem was, and indeed.. she didn't care. "Which is why I'm out here.. and by all appearances, why you're here as well. Why else should you be so lost to reality as you claim to have been?"
The teen smirked, eyes once more going to Sukari. Many had called her gaze 'calculating' and they would be right; no matter what else could be said for the estranged lioness, she certainly did not attempt to hide behind any other pretext than what she was. Nor did she miss Sukari's hints at them being cut of the same cloth. To those she didn't respond, though she noted the words for later thought.

"True enough," came the answer, her head tilting to one side, as if considering the girl that was speaking, rather than the words themselves, for a long, hard moment. It passed as soon as it came though and soon enough, the female reclined herself into a languid, comfortable position. For once, in a very long time, Sukari allowed herself to watch, rather than act; there was no immediate threat to her person, and she had to admit that watching this female was proving to be quite an amusing er... entertainment, really.
She was pretty much an open book for a few moments, as she snarled and then looked off towards the rock that stood proudly in the distance. Feeling curiosity nibble at the back of her mind, the larger of the lioness, looked over towards it, regarding it, standing in the distance, looming like a monsters of some sort. Arching a brow, she returned her sapphire gaze towards the other lass, her head tilting almost childishly to the side; regardless of the motion, there was little innocence about her form or person. If something was clear, it was that Sukari had seen the 'Beast' of life, looked at it in the eye and snarled right back at it, baring her fangs for effect.
Nothing about her was really childish, or innocent, really, however, the movement seemed to hint something akin to childish curiosity, "Is that so?" the words were drawled out as she pondered them, tasted them on her tongue, only to allow a snort o float through her nose, no sooner had the lighter colored female stopped talking, "Hardly," she said in a mumble, her eyes narrowing as she turned to glance behind her, towards the distance, her eyes narrowing, "Unlike you, I'm not distancing myself, or planning a counter; I'm running away from it. If only for a while. What's back there is something I can't change," turning to face Sara, her eyes gleamed, and though there was sarcasm and perhaps a hint of mirth in her voice, it never reached her eyes.
It was still fresh; it pained her. Her mother had abandoned her... them, and now her son had done the same, despite the fact she'd offered him her love and devotion. Something her mother had not done for her, "Fool, that I am," a pause, a sneer, her fangs showing as she lifted her lip into a silent snarl, aimed at whatever ghost seemed to be haunting her, "Oh, but as you say; it'll change. It'll change it; not the past, but the present. I'll bloody well bite it and scratch it... slash it into place if need be," even despite her grumped words, her body language had turned defensive; her head had lowered forward, her shoulders haunching up as if the weight of years and world rested upon them.
Clearly she believed what she'd said, yet something, a small part of her thought that it was somewhat impossible. It was almost amusing to note how Sukari herself seemed to have no problem with the way Sarafina looked at her; in fact, the older lioness was rather pleased to see someone brave enough to show her true colors. Most beings she'd come across hid behind a mask; this was rather refreshing, fact which she noted by offering the other female a singular smirk, right back, "Ain't getting any younger either," she chuckled dryly, her brow knitted, making her features almost eerily sinister for a moment, "Figure ol' Sukari's had her share," a bark of bitter laughter was released at this point as she turned away, only to slowly refocus her attention her strange 'companion', "You and your problem got a name?"

"Several for both," Sarafina snickered, unable to help it. Her ear had flicked at the mention of a 'Sukari,' however. It took a moment before she realized that the lioness seemed to be speaking for herself. The smirk grew once more upon her maw as she looked down from her perch at the lioness beneath her--as it should be, in her mind. "One of which happens to be a Sukari, the others of my blood... And I am Sarafina, daughter of Tiah and granddaughter of Taka..." To her it was important enough to say, especially the last. It was her identity, his follower his... dare she think it? his heir. Even if others didn't know it yet.
Her cool gaze found its audience once more as she smirked. This was possibly the smartest one she'd met yet. Oh, it'd take much more than a single meeting to earn Sarafina's respect, but this lioness had far more chance of any other person she'd yet to meet outside her own bloodline. Even then, most of her blood failed miserably. Beyond miserably in some cases. Once more her eyes cut to the distant pride rock, but this time she sighed and shook her head.
Looking at the elder female once more, she nodded to have her suspicions of age confirmed. Older, supposedly wiser.. but so many were. Still... Sarafina watched her for another moment, before continuing. "I refuse to run away from my problems.. though that might in the end be easier." She snorted, "If I run from these they'll either be killed or follow me until the day I die... lest I bloody my paws on them instead." For a moment she actually, obviously considered the idea. It was almost as if she were pondering whether to chase a zebra or a wilderbeast for her dinner! Soon enough she dismissed the idea with a wave of the paw. "Family is family, I suppose, no matter how moronic."
She didn't precisely care, but found herself asking anyway, "and yours?

Huh, she thought lightly, both brow lifting to hide under the tuff of hair that hung languidly over her forehead, Imagine that. What were the odds of her knowing another Sukari? Randomly amusing at least, and somehow, the idle talking was managing to accomplish that what not even sleep had been able to; take her mind out of the hole it'd buried itself into. Lifting a paw, she passed her tongue through her digits, grooming the pelt that resided there, taking extra care around the scarred tissue on the back side of it; the movement helped her ponder, however, it was clear her attention was on Sarafina herself, for her piercing blue gaze never left the younger female's figure.
More than respect, there was vague amusement in Sukari's vibrant gaze; mirth due mostly to the fact that had she been younger, she'd have somewhat considered Sara some lost family member, what with the clear resemblance the bore to each other, if not in pelt, at least in mind. She was a proud thing; especially proud of where she came from, or rather, whom she came from, the lioness noted as she even spelled out the name of her grandfather, "Sorry. I'm not from around here. I'm afraid I have no idea whom they are," she said as she settled the paw back on the ground, offering her a humourless smile... one that seemed to hint that she actually WAS surprisingly enough, sorry. Whomever those Tiah and Taka were, they must've been fine specimens for those female to hold them in such high regard, "Can't say I'm as proud as you are of coming where I come from; My mother was a whore, abandoned me and my siblings the moment my father died," that same smile had turned into a smirk, her eyes narrowing, yet there was no sadness. In fact, the uplifting of her lip into a mild snarl seemed to indicate just what she thought of said act.
Sukari was all about family; granted she showed her love in her own unique way, however, in her mind, family was all. What her mother had done, had been a betrayal on such a baser level that could not and would never be forgiven; there was no excuse.
For the umpteenth time, she found herself wondering why she was even talking to Sarafina; it wasn't like she care. Not remotely; and it wasn't like she gave a damn about what she thought of her, however, it seemed right at the time, and since her instincts had yet to fail her in any sort of situation, she went with what they told her was a good idea. Arching a brow, she watched feelings, emotions and thoughts pass fleetingly over the younger female's features, and once more that smirk that seemed to hint she knew exactly what she was pondering, haunted her own maw. In fact, as soon as Sarafina waved her paw, almost dissmissively, Sukari chuckled slightly, mildly, as if entertained; she knew how the she felt. Hadn't she been the one that had scared her own eye as a pact and a promise to kill her own mother if she ever got the chance to?
Alas there had been no need, for the plague had done away with her. And good riddance, she thought with a snort, "Blood is thicker than water," she said snort as Sara waved her paw, coming out of her thoughts. The sound was swiftly followed by a sneer however, "Or so they say," the last comment sounded almost bitter in a way before her eyes sparkled, "Fenris," she answered with a smirk, yet something did flash across her features, indicating the wound was still open, fresh, "What son, in their right mind, would run away with an enemy and give his back to his family?" a pause as she narrowed her eyes, "It's interesting how it's those close to you that are able to slash your back; it's never those you thought would be a threat, but thought that you never look at in such a light," another chuckle, this one dry, without humour, "Thicker than blood; my a**. No decency. No values."

"And so the moral of our story becomes 'Everyone is Suspect." Sarafina's words walked the fence between sarcasm and amusement rather well. This was certainly an interesting conversation, probably one of the best she'd had in months. The little lioness certainly seemed to be enjoying herself, and her 'honestly' about her own character hinted that what seemed to be was automatically true. This was actually valuable to her for other things, for if in the event that she chose to hide something of herself with a lie, there were many would would believe it. Honesty as a rule had more prospects than continuous fibs. "Class," She continued, the word almost snapped. A snort followed it as she sneered, "No one has any class anymore."
There was a pause before she offered off-hand, "Not even my family, it seems. Your son abandons you, my brothers tear at one another like a pack of heathens. They'll kill mother with worry one of these days," She rolled her eyes and shook her head. It was a shame, really; Sarafina liked Tiah for the most part, though she kept the lioness at a firm distance from her now. It wasn't that she didn't want her 'interference' as some children might have claimed, but more that she was sheltering her mother, somewhat, from her daughters' plans.
What with the things that Tahka and Matishou had done to her, and the way in which this litter had come into the world to begin with, Sarafina thought the elder lioness had had far too much hurt in her life already. Not that this plan should be hurtful to her, but it... well, if something went wrong, Tiah could claim in all honesty that she hadn't known what was going on. It was simply better that way.
Though Sarafina may have claimed to not care about many things, especially such trivial notions as 'right and wrong', family was her one important exception... in a fashion. She cared that they were safe and cared for and would do whatever it took to give them the best of everything.... but she didn't care how she did it, or whether or not they agreed with her interference. It was Sara's way or the highway, and they'd seemed to learn that fairly quickly. "It started with the fall of the royal family, with Mufasa's theft of the throne," She muttered, the fur on the back of her neck rankling with distaste, "And spread out through our pride. Standards fell, idiocy spread. The royal children were allowed to go haywire and give in to their basest amusements while the rest of the pride, and its reputation, suffered. And now that t**t sits on the throne my family should rightfully occupy."
She spat her distaste upon the ground. It was all discusting, "Until my family, too, has been tainted. My twin goes insane and power hungry, and my idiot brother gets thrown from the pride by my mother's own paws." She shook her head, then glanced sideways at her strange companion of the day, "Though she thought she was in the right. Attacking females younger than him isn't kosher behavior with her."

"Ain't that so," she sneered at the though, wrinkling her nose in distaste; when had the world turned out like this? Since when did mothers abandon their children? Since when did one's son leave, literally biting the hand that fed them? Was there no common sense left in the world anymore? Sukari though cold and without shame when it came to snapping and slashing at even the largest of rogues, still firmly believed in one thing; family. And now, even that word... that concept, which she'd made sure to hold dear and close to herself, was starting to lose significance, because for some reason beyond her, others seemed to not give a bloody damn.
"Class. No one has any class anymore."
That was it. Bingo. Sukari found herself turning to glance at Sarafina, nodding her head rather firmly, "No one respects the values anymore," she sneered, unafraid of looking less-than-feminine by doing so, for after all... her time was past. She had a mate, and no longer needed to impress anyone. She was allowed to sneer at something as disgusting as this, "There are rules to the game, and no one ever follows them any more. There's no balance," lifting her lip, the lioness showed her teeth, snapping at the air out of lack of something tangible to sink her fangs into; it was obvious this topic was something she felt strongly for (or rather, against), amusingly enough... much like Sarafina herself, though for different reasons.
Waving a paw, the female shook her head, "Kids these days; your mother must be thrilled," there was no sarcasm in her voice, just understanding, for after all, she was passing through the same thing, "Worst bit is, my son is young, and inexperienced, as much as he thinks to believe otherwise. He's left and I can't track him down; The Gods know what's happened to him!" despite everything Sukari cared deeply for her children and mate; the idea of any harm coming to them made her blood boil. And yet, there was nothing she could do, "Kids these day; wonder who taught them that. I sure didn't!"
As soon as she'd finished her small rant, Sarafina started her own, and Sukari flicked an ear towards her before allowing her gaze to rest on distant pride rock. Somehow, the story didn't surprise her, and mid way, she snorted, wrinkling her nose, her ears setting back as she raised her head; it was just as she'd said. No ******** decency. Not even in prides anymore, "Where's the world coming to, when you can no longer believe in anything. Not even in blood," arching a brow, she licked her maw; she'd never been against harming those that wronged her. In fact, she wasn't against harming those that didn't either, really, however, she could understand a mother's concern. Sukari knew her own faults; she knew she was rash, and just a tad too violent, and those faults, she would not have wished upon her children. Intelligence went a long way, even for someone as impatient as her, "Power hungry," she snorted, "Been there, seen that, done that... in the end it ain't power we crave. We crave strength; there's a difference," she lifted a finger, claw unsheathed; it was amusing to note how the female's claws seemed to remain in view all the time, regardless of the fact she was calm and relaxed. It seemed to be a reflex, "There's strength of body and strength of mine. Power is just about position and perseverance. If you got the first two, the third ain't all that hard," a pause followed as she tucked her paws neatly down, "Though something tells me you know that much."
She'd seen that gleam in Sarafina's eyes, and dare she say it? Not only was she reminded of herself, but she was becoming increasingly glad she'd strayed far from the border. It was giving her the chance for a singularly interesting conversation with a mind that was, no doubt, the smartest and sly-est she'd met in a very long time, if not ever. Sukari liked that, "They need some sense knocked into their heads."

"Trust me," Sara stated in a voice and with a look that made most people do exactly the opposite, "Ive considered beating the truth into them more often than is healthy. Actually, I've tried it with Matishou once or twice.. no, these two are the hardheaded kind, at least my Twin. He won't respond violence from me, not the way the others will." There was an actual sigh at that. As much as she loved her "twin," his touchy nature and almost womanly attitudes about things, ever increasing as he got older, were beginning to out weigh that love in terms of annoyance. At this point, Sara might've slapped him had he presented himself to her.
"Power hungry, perhaps, is not the term I should have used for him. It would have fit when he was younger, but now he acts more like a pubescent female." She rolled her eyes with a lift of her head. Just thinking about it made her stiffen with annoyance. "No, there's nothing wrong with a good dose of 'power hungry'," That was met with another shake of her head before her eyes returned to Sukari. Amazing..
Here Sara was, laying on a rock, spilling her guts out to some strange lioness in a way she'd never done with any other... not even her own mother. And yet, somehow, she thought this one understood. Though there wasn't exactly trust there, for trust with Sara was earned, not given willy-nilly, there was some sort of camaraderie building. It was something she'd never felt before, outside of Tahka, and that caused another spark inside of her, another neuron trail in her mind. "Kids these days never consider their parent's feelings in anything. They lie they steal they fight, they do anything and everything to their parents as if that lion or lioness is made of unfeeling stone."
She'd never done anything of the sort to Tiah, so she actually could talk on this matter. Oh, she'd kept things from her, but that wasn't exactly a lie. In fact, Sara had little doubt that Tiah knew what was in her daughter's heart and let it go. So long as there was that unspoken agreement between them, they got along perfectly fine. Sarafina rather liked it this way, and she thought that her mother did too.
"The world, from this end, is spiraling rather down hill. These lands are like that... Oh, they're prosperous enough--many herds, many lions..." She snorted, "Too many lions. Our so-called Queen, like her usurper father, lets anyone walk into the lands and take whatever they want, leave a litter or two behind, and walk out without the slightest thought for anyone else that was already here. Its to the point where most of the pride has never even seen one another, much less met. And that, of course, leads to the fact that no one cares whose toes they're stepping on. If you're not directly in the royal family, it doesn't matter how long your family has lived here, how many generations you've loved the land... No, these newcomers will walk right over you and haven't a care in the world that they are the outsiders, not you."
Oh there was bitterness there; it hung in the air like a stench and dripped like acid from her tongue. And... it felt good. It felt wonderful to say these things to someone outside her family! To be open with the troublesome things that plagued her mind. "Taka, my grandfather, would never have allowed such a thing to happen... if his brother hadn't shoved him from his rightful throne."
Slowly the adolescent drew her gaze back from where it'd once again moved towards that icon in the distance. THE icon, perhaps, of "truth and loyalty" to the surrounding lands. Hah. "No. Not even blood is to be believed anymore."

Sukari found herself nodding yet again; she was doing a lot of that today, which was amusing, in a way anyhow... for she was known for being practically unable to conform with anything others said. Eerily strange that this younger female seemed to share her ideals and views on life, tit for tat; not only that, but Sukari found herself quite entranced by the story she was telling her. A story that any other day, she'd not have given s**t about. Needless to say, the irony of the current situation was not lost on her at all, and as Sara spoke she snorted again, her eye rolling with disdain, "People; they never learn. It's particularly hard with family. I know your pain; the only one I can trust now-a-days is my mate, and merely because he's simply not the type to think farther than what we're having for supper that very night," oh yes, she loved Jani for all what he was, however, she knew well enough that he was the one creature that'd never dare glare at her the wrong way.
He loved her the way she was, and made no movement to change anything. In fact, he was rather content to sit back and let her lead, and for that, she loved him back, "He's content to let me do as I wish," in a way, she knew she was the one that wore the metaphorical 'pants' of the relationship. She'd not have it any other way, "Nothing wrong at all; either you step all over them, or they step all over you. Then again; tit for tat," came her response, a light brow arching almost elegantly under the tuff of hair that fell over her eyes. Despite her gruffness and rough ways, her pelt was groomed, her frame feminine enough to be attractive; Sukari prided herself in looking just as good as she was strong.
Oh, but yes; kids. That's where the topic hit a nerve. A nerve so deep the lioness seethed, forcing herself to move her frame till she was laying down comfortably on Sara's large flat rock. It was either that or risk feeling the need to murder someone out of stress.
Breathe in... breath out.
After a few motions, Sukari finally felt calm enough to talk, "Not a rock," she snapped, not at Sara, but rather, at the world around them, "Some sort of big lump that brings them food and keeps them safe till they're ready to leave. Then it's toddles and good ******** riddance!" she was bitter; there was no denying it, "My mother was a whore whom abandoned me and my siblings to our luck; she was too busy shoving us away and looking for males," there was such acid dripping off her words that had it been real, it'd have no doubt melted the very rock they were resting on, "She died, the old fool, the plague got her; alas, I tried to do my best to be everything my own mother was not to my children and instead they leave my side in the middle of the night without even a good bye! Who gives a damn about ol' Sukari?" she sneered, her claws scratching at the surface of the rock, leaving trails when she moved her paws slightly.
The movement and sound were satisfying to her ears for the briefest of moments; it allowed her to relax just enough to close her eyes, her breath coming through her gritted teeth, "Snakes in the grass; strike you when you're down," waving a paw, she tried to dismiss the thought for what it was; useless, something she should not bother with. After all, she'd known the world was coming down long ago. Instead she focused back on Sara, offering her a frown as she spoke; she had no idea about how the pride lands worked, or any other pride really. She'd been pretty much a loner all her life, Jani and her children being the only exceptions; she'd never worked inside a pride and though she had an inkling of an idea of how things worked there, she could only guess most of the details. She knew about balance though, and what Sarafina spoke of was breaking the fine, delicate line of balance, "It'll topple down soon enough on them; no land can last like that, for obvious reasons."
Her tail thumped over the rock once as she thought, silence engulfing them as she pondered; granted, she'd only met this lioness moments earlier, but already she was feeling some sort of ... well, something for her. Not trust, not like, but something. It was more than she'd felt for anyone outside her family in the longest time. In fact, as far as Sukari could remember, this was the first time; what she felt for Jani wasn't even similar. She loved him, yes, but the feeling was different. She'd never discuss such things as this with him, "Gonna do something about it?" she motioned lightly towards the distant rock, even though really, she shouldn't have cared; despite this, she was mildly curious, if not intrigued, and if she'd read the signals well so far... she already knew the answer to the question she'd asked.

"No, it won't," Sara agreed with a soft huff of air. There was a soft laugh, almost bitter as Sara considered what Sukari had said of her mate. Oh how ironic! She waited a few moments before deciding she might as well venture there, it wasn't as if it were a secret of any sort. "My mate's name is Sukari."
The adolescent half expected the older female to challenge this. Certainly many didn't think that adolescents should have mates, some even took it so far as to say that they shouldn't even be thinking about such things at all! Funny how it was that her siblings had, in the majority, already paired off themselves. Perhaps it was just becoming more and more common than Sarafina had been raised to believe... But her and Sukari were different; very, very different. "Amusingly, he's a little on the same wavelength as your mate, from the way you described him. Somewhat on the slower side, honestly, but he keeps things.... simple." Sarafina offered a chuckle with that last word.
Sukari wasn't an idiot, not really, but he certainly wasn't a match for his mate in wits, either. Or brute strength, actually. There wasn't much question as to which wore the pants in their relationship, especially when confronted with how it began in the first place. "He doesn't mind the way I am.. or if he does, he hasn't the balls to say so, which works just as well." The girl shrugged. "Actually, he's something of a relief. At least with him I don't have to worry about something completely stupid being tossed in my face every five minutes. Of the whole lot, he's the only one that keeps his drama where it belongs--to himself."
That wasn't entirely true, actually. There had been many a moment when Sukari had whined to her, but unlike the others he seemed to take her abusal and learn from it. He'd stopped crying about his home life, for example, at least to her. That was really enough for Sara, so long as he was a warm body to curl against at night and someone to b***h at when she needed an excuse. Maybe it wasn't 'right', but that never bothered her.
She made some bit of room to allow Sukari up upon the rock with her, a strange thing for her but she pretended that it wasn't. There was something nice about being on the same level with someone, in more ways than one. "But that's why I'm not planning to have any children," Sara stated in her usual confident manner, in response to Sukari's own bitterness surrounding the subject. "I'll deal with my sibling's mistakes when they make them, but until.... that is settled," She nodded her head briefly to the Pride Rock, "I'll not even consider it... and I've no doubt in my mind that my silbings will be making mistakes. In fact, I'll make bets that Matishou already has them."
Amusingly, Sarafina was both right and wrong about the boys' families, and who would be first, but at the moment she didn't realize this. In the end, she didn't actually answer Sukari's last question, but the implication was there and it sparkled in her eyes to see if Sukari would get it.

"Huh," there was a short pause, as if the female were oddly amused by what she'd just discovered, "Sugar?" she arched a brow at the notion; the idea a male sported such a name... was amusing to say the least, and somehow gave her a good idea of how his personality might've been. Indeed, it was odd for someone such as Sara to have taken a mate so early on in life, and her brow did furrow as the younger pridelander mentioned this, but she soon enough shrugged it off; it was a very small offense compared to the intelligence and vision she was displaying after all. With a slight now, the brown female let it pass, after all... if one thing was certain, it was that love was... blind. One way or another. Even if it wasn't love, "Mistakes are inevitable; it's how they're dealt with that makes the difference," narrowing her eyes, she stared at pride rock, a small smirk forming on her maw, "This shall be interesting, to say the least... maybe I should hang around for a while longer. Place holds potential. Not like I had anywhere better to go anyhow," she sneered; after all, the way fenris had abandoned her bit at her. Returning to the jungle's edge were it'd happened was not an option, "My mate will follow anyhow, no matter where," it was clear who wore the pants of that relationship. "As it should be," Sara gave agreement to the topic of mates. She stood on the same level as Sukari in this thought; the woman should be in charge of the situation--it only made sense. At least, it did to her. Sarafina smirked slightly. "Stay. I believe you'll find suitable entertainment in it." There was an offer there, even if it wasn't one that might be readily noticeable. Another test, it seemed.
Of course the woman should be in charge; females usually had more sense of vision and were in fact, the stronger sex (regardless of what others seemed to think - after all, which was the gender that usually did all the hunting? Exactly, just Sukari's thought); it only made sense. There was no need to voice this thought however, for it was echoed in Sarafina's eyes as much as Sukari's own. Her head nodded mildly, her gaze still fixed on the distant rock, "I believe I shall. Nothing better to do anyhow. My slaves ran off. My childrean are growing, and leaving. Better keep the mind occupied in... more interesting things. a mate can only keep one's attention for so long," it wasn't that he didn't love her mate, it was just that she needed other sorts of entertainment; the more physically and intellectually challenging sort, and this would prove to be rather challenging by the looks of it. She'd noticed the offer, and she greeted it with a narrowing of her eyes as she turned towards the other female, a small rather sadistic smile curving on her maw; the twinkle in her eyes seemed to answer all what Sarafina might've needed. Sukari was not one to offer her help easily, specially when she wouldn't gain anything from a situation... but now, regardless of what others might've seen, she saw potential and that was worth gaining. The smile was echoed in the eyes of the female beside her. Nothing else really needed to be said. Instead, she just nodded and let her eyes roam back out to the pride lands. Almost like an instinct, they landed directly upon Pride Rock.END
