All changelings have the ability to "mask" their Fae form in the human world. This is not a complete change of appearance, however, merely a shift that masks non-human characteristics.

Beast: Most Beasts were innocent when they were taken, naive to the world of humans as well as that of animals. During their stay in the world of Faerie these changelings lived as animals, only regaining their human consciousness after returning to the human world. They appear now, in their Fae form with attributes of the animal they reflect.
(No domesticated animals, please.)

Darklings: Most Darklings were taken because they attracted the attention of the Fae in some way. During their stay in the other world these changelings were shrouded in darkness and silence. In appearance, these have skin that is either deathly pale, or nearly black or blue. Sometimes they have small horns or fangs, extra eyes, etc.

Elementals: Elementals were usually taken because they were coveted by the Fae, watched and desired for a long time before their kidnapping. These changelings have imbued the material aspect of nature itself during their stay in Faerie. They have changed the most out of any who were taken. Each Elemental has something of their element about them: texture or color if skin, body type, hair color or texture.

Fairest: The Fairest were taken because of not only their physical beauty, but because of some talent they had; artists, singers, dancers. They were used as entertainment and as lovers to their Fae Keepers. These are always tall and thin and good looking. However, it is not always conventional beauty, usually their natural beauty is enhanced by certain exaggerations or oddities in their appearance.

Ogres: Taken for their strength, Ogres were used for slave labor and often tortured by their Fae Keepers. Their appearance is rather brutish and bestial and they are often tall and broad.

Wizened: Most of the Wizened were taken for no reason at all, they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Others attracted attention because they helped a Fae who appeared to be in trouble. Wizened usually become smaller than they were when taken, they bear features of the 'Little People'. These changelings become loyal servants, brilliant artists or researchers.

Not entirely sure if I'm allowed to post here or not. xD But, I was wondering if this is still alive. <.<;; I really like the idea and might be interested in joining. ^_^;

this is a REALLY cool, REALLY well thought out idea!! i'd rather like to join, it sounds interesting. so it's basicly the life of the changelings after they escape, correct? is there some sort of way that one cangeling can identify anoher when they're masked? do they not appear masked to one another, or do they have to be told? (just a few things i wanted to be specified XD)

Character Name: Warren 'Jin' Zheng
Seeming: Darkling
History: Times were tough for Warren as a small child living on the outskirts of San Francisco with his many siblings and his grandparents. Disgusted by his guardians' old ways and folk tales, the boy purposely went against their many warnings of staying out of a room in their basement. Lo and behold nothing at all happened. Thinking it was perfectly safe to play amongst the old furniture and antiques, he continued to sneak down there day after day. During one of his routine excursions, he'd decided to take a short nap on one of the plastic covered couches. There he was caught and swept away.
All he could recall from his days of imprisonment was hours upon hours of deafening silence and darkness as far as the eye could see. The only times the silence was broken was when a disembodied voice called out; sometimes to mock him, sometimes to praise him.
During one of the hours of silence, he caught sight of a hazy light. On instinct, he followed it and soon discovered he was back in the human world.
Somehow, he'd found his way back to his grandparent's house. He learned his grandparents had passed away long ago and his sister now residing there thought him a lunatic when he explained his story. It was futile to keep trying. And so he was left with no choice but to make the best of his situation.
Appearance: Fae: Warren's eyes are the color of coal which matches his flowing locks of hair. But his eyes glow like a cat's at night. His skin has the tone of moonlight, though he seems to disappear in shadows. His ears are very pointed and there is a third eye located on his forehead. A large tattoo of an onyx Chinese dragon decorates his back.
Mask: His dark hair is always tied back loosely; never free. Ears are normal rounded things, and his third eye all but sealed behind a little black dot. His other eyes no longer glow in the dark, and his skin is not so luminescent, nor does he fade away in shadows. Sometimes he likes to wear fake glasses.
