The basic experimental phenomenon of photon echo resonance consists of applying two brief laser pulses, separated by a time tau, to a resonant absorbing system. In the work discussed, the source is a liquid nitrogen cooled ruby laser, Q-switched by Kerr-cell, while the absorbing media are samples of ruby. The target system responds by emitting an echo pulse at time 2 tau whose amplitude is characteristic of the state of phase coherence. The echo is detected by a photomultiplier and suitably displaced. Thus, such phase disrupting phenomena as lattice vibration, i.e., phonon excitation, or magnetic interactions with the same, or different species of atom, contribute to the echo decay. The original proposal made in this contract, contained several programs of study, which have been successfully carried out. We proposed to study the magnetic properties of echo generation, which is described by Modulation of Echoes. We also proposed the study of concentration dependence and other temperature-independent decay. This is described in the body of the report as is the important advance in direct measurement of lifetimes of photon-echo decay. One of the consequences of this work is the development of circular polarized excitation in which clear separation of echo subsystems are observed....wtf? no, no... this is just a family get-together. wink

She danced through the grasses, humming a wordless little tune. Echo could speak to her partner if she wanted, she didn't have the same total issue communicating she once had, but it certainly was a fun game to have her lover think so. They were on their way to meet their little girl. It felt like it had been so long since they'd seen her! Echo loved the thought that they had a close family though. She'd wanted to instill in them a big sense of family togetherness. Had she succeeded? They grew up so fast, she felt like they'd had almost no time together as a real family.
Khalon watched Echo move, awed as always at how the energetic female seemed to move gracefully even with that mass of hair for her mane and tail. It was incredible, it really was. The warhorse didn't know how such a delicate-looking creature could be so tough sometimes. He let his gaze drift away from the sparkling creature in front of him, bringing to mind the last picture he had of his little princess. Not that he'd tell her she was his princess. There was just something... different about having a daughter, as compared to his sons- who he was certain were off being very much like stallions. At least, that was the thought he kept close to soothe his mind. He was awfully worried sometimes about that Dorian... and Sigao was so silent...
But. Today was for his Princess. "Resonance?" his voice rose, piercing the air as they drew nearer to the meeting spot. He didn't want to startle her.

There had been some interesting times since she'd grown up and left the safety of her family. The rivalry with Dorian was always fun and the quiet togetherness with their less vain brother was lovely - as was tag with her family and general goodness of everything. But all children grow up and Resonance, like all of her siblings, had parted into her own life.
Today, though, she would be seeing her parents for the first time in far too long. Sure, she saw her brothers every now and then - not as much as she'd like, but she did - but it wasn't the same as seeing mommy and daddy, was it?
Hearing her father's voice, the unicorn lifted her head from the grass she'd been grazing on and straightened herself into her normal regal posture, "Daddy? Mother?" A smile stretched over and she gave a slow little bow. Parents, they may be, but still she lived to impress and awe.

Echo felt a little tremor of pleasure shoot her at the sound of her daughter's voice, so melodious and smooth. And Resonance looked so very much like her father in the way she held herself. Proud and strong, she didn't look at all like she would allow herself to be pushed around. And she had Echo's own good looks. There was a certain amount of amusement in her eye as she moved closer to her daughter, whickering a soft greeting. "Resonance." her voice was almost a whisper, and she looked at her daughter with love in her gaze.
He let Echo move forward first to greet their daughter, looking Resonance over carefully. Such a regal bearing, and his own dashing good looks. But considerably more feminine, of course, as was fitting; tempered by the touch of Echo's 'glitter' as it were. From what he could see she was fit, though he kept a careful eye on her to see if she limped or anything suggesting some uncouth beast had tried to bite his baby girl. "You are looking well, Resonance." he said finally, moving forward to nuzzle her carefully. "Your mother has been very anxious to be sure you were well." his eyes shifted the tiniest bit to glance at his partner.
The mare rolled her eyes, smiling at their daughter. "Anxious." she agreed, with a small twitch of her lips. "Khalon anxious." That silly stallion would fret over everything if Echo didn't keep him busy. He'd be all over their poor children, inspecting them daily for so much as a bug bite. Overprotective male...
