Alright, this thread is really right what it says on the tin. Who are some of your favorite Doctor Who companions through the years, and why? Old Who, New Who, whoever!
Discuss.
(Btw, I'm terribly sorry if there's already a thread like this, I didn't see any)

Hrm. Classic favourite? Ace. She's so...wonderful. Really. What with the Nitro 9 and not taking any guff.
New Who? I really liked Donna, and I think she'll be a bitchin' companion. I don't think that the Christmas special really did her justice. Once she's a companion by choice and not randomness, I think she'll fit the role just as well as Rose and endofseason3!Martha.

I have to say that Peri is my favorite companion, which is too bad because she was only with the fifth for a while before he regenerated, and the sixth was very mean to her stare
Nyssa was also a great companion, she had a bit of a soft-spokenness that most companions lack (though perhaps thats just compared to Tegan xp )

Telly-wise it'd be the Jaime/Zoe double-act. With everything in play, then Bernice every time.
Others who rank high in my affections would be Romana, Ace, Rose, Frobisher, Evelyn, Fey, Jo, Ian and Barbara.

From the ones I've seen (I'm counting crossover companions as with the first Doctor they travelled with...)
First Doctor: Steven (no idea why...)
Second Doctor: Jamie (I'm a Frazer Hines fan, and I love his accent)
Third Doctor: Jo (she seemed really ditzy when I first saw her, but I warmed to her) and Sarah Jane (She's just plain cool!)
Fourth Doctor: Leela (feisty and fun! In my opinion! I love her in Talons of Weng Chiang)
Fifth Doctor: Probably Nyssa (very ladylike) or Peri (not as stupid as she seemed)
Sixth Doctor: Already said who in the Fifth Doctor's bit (Peri). Sorry, but I couldn't stand Mel!
Seventh Doctor: Ace (first companion I saw, and she was so cool! I loved her!)
Eighth Doctor: Lucie (BBC7 companion, because she's a feisty Northerner. Anyone who can flash the Daleks is fine by me!!! And added to which, Sheridan Smith, who plays her, is a fellow Doncastrian!)
Ninth Doctor: Jack (I know he was only there for a bit, but he had a steeper arc in a much shorter time than Rose, and I got tired of Rose getting jealous over other girls who spoke to the Doctor [Lynda, for example])
Tenth Doctor (so far): Martha (much more level headed than Rose and able to work things out for herself more than Rose seemed to). Of course, I may change my mind on this when I see Donna's full series.

Mine would probably be Romana #2, Sarah Jane, and Zoe (not necessarily in that order). I should probably dock Zoe a few points for her rather unbelievable screams, but Wendy Padbury is just so cute...
As for the male companions, Jaime tops the list, followed by Harry.
I'm surprised that there's actually some Peri love in this thread. mrgreen

i like Martha best, though ii like Rose too, I also like Arthur (the horse) Arthur was almost a companion, and how incredibly COOL would it be if the Doctor traveled through time and space with a horse? I know I'D watch it! biggrin

ive only seen the new series - the old ones seem to have vanished frm any place i might have been able to find them crying so i say Rose. i didnt like Martha at all, yes she may have been level headed, but she also got extremely moody and jealous any time Rose was mentioned and plus she was practcially in love with the Doctor in the 'Shakespeare Code' when she had known is for like 3 hours!
on another note..... redface if anyone knows where i can find ANY original series i would be eternally grateful! biggrin

You cannot beat Rose!! she was fab and Martha was good but really annoyed me at times! Donna is going to annoy me SO MUCH!!!!! BUT ROSE IS COMING BACK! WOOOOOOOO biggrin

I know I've played already, but I want to try the [x]butterfly method.
First: Ian and Barbara count as one!
Second: As do Jaime and Zoe!
Third: Jo.
Fourth: Romana II.
Fifth: Ouch, slim pickings. I'll say Tegan, but its a 'best of a bad lot' situation.
Sixth: Evelyn.
Seventh: Bernice
Eighth: Fitz.
Ninth: Rose.
Tenth: Can I say Rose twice?

Gods, so hard to decide....please skip if you don't want to see possible spoilers..
Not in order of Doctors, btw..
Sarah Jane was pretty spunky, and still was when she came back, years later...the Doctor's worst nightmare...the old companion comparing notes with the new one (Rose)!
Rose-part attitude..why didn't we see more of her like we did in the first one, when she admitted she was a former gymnast? Part spunk and maybe the only one (besides Sarah Jane) who was established as having a relationship with the Doctor...
Leela was lots of fun. Sort of a forerunner of Xena, the Warrior Princess in her leather outfit. Never could see what she saw in that wimp she married. Wonder if she died in the Time Wars. Ditto Romana.
Ace-"Ace, hand me that Nitro 90 that you don't have." She always carried explosives, had an attitude to match. She could probably hold her own against Tennant today smile
Jack Harkness-the most cheeky and adult of the current batch of companions with his pansexualty..he actually kissed the Doctor once! (Only man to do so to date...)
