Mother liked to joke that she was small enough to be a nice snack for something even though it made daddy huff. She liked being smaller than average though. It meant she could get though thick underbrush easier. Less mass to get though tight spaces. At least Daddy was a little more lenient now that they'd all 'grown up' and wanted to explore more on their own.
It meant that she could wander down to the river and get a drink now that the sun had gone down. Silly of her parents to have taken up being awake more after dark but it seemed to work. She didn't think it would be nice to be out in the sun all the time with hides like theirs.

 He had wandered away from one part of the stream, breaking into a gallop that he hoped would help clear his mind. There were things lingering on it that he'd rather not think too hard on... Darkness, and it was trying to loom everywhere.
He slowed his pace as he veered back towards the stream, willing the flames licking at his legs to die down a bit so that he could attempt to keep to himself. It was nearly impossible, of course... Especially with the sky as dark as it was.

Her ears flicked lightly as she leaned down to get a sip of the cool water. The night was calm and quiet and it was for once missing the flap of wings of daddy's ever present companion. Hopefully that meant that Mother was keeping him occupied somehow so he wouldn't worry about anything. It would be nice of that was the case. Daddy could use some peace.
Trotting a little ways into the stream she let the water wash the dust off her legs as she started to hum softly to herself.

His ears flickered towards a sound. It wasn't something he had ever heard in the forest before... No, it was something softer... Much softer.
He slowed his pace, not wanting to frighten whatever the source of the sound might be... Not yet, at least. He wanted to at least see it first, curious as to whether or not it was just as enchanting as its melody or if it was some sort of a trap.

Her mother had never explained to her where the song had come from but she'd always loved listening to her hum it. It had been a good way to go to sleep when she was a foal. It was calming more so than anything else she'd ever found.
Dipping her nose back into the water carefully she took another sit before straightening up to toss her curls back into place.

A mare. A mare had been making that sound... He paused, watching the petite creature for a moment before clearing his throat. Why just watch when he could interact?
He gave his head a light toss as he made his way down to the water's edge, a teasing smirk curving his lips as flames licked up along his lower legs. "... Do you always sing like a siren in the dark?"

Her ears flickered toward the sound before her head turned. She hadn't noticed anyone coming toward her and daddy would have scolded her for not paying attention. That was a good way to get yourself eaten.
At least it wasn't a monster just a stallion. A glowing stallion. Her eyes slid to the flames licking at his hooves before they returned to his face. "Perhaps this time it is the moth beckoning the flame instead of the other way around?" She smiled at him across the darkness.

"Moth?" His brow lofted slightly as he tilted his head to the side, crimson eyes gleaming. "I'd hardly call you a moth... Unless someone's gone and plucked your wings." That would have been horrible... To have something only to have them torn from you; horrible and painful. Then again from this distance she didn't appear to have any sort of scars. "You didn't answer my question, little nightingale."

Given that she was the only child to not have wings that very well could have been the case. She wasn't nearly as impressive as her sister and brother with their pretty wings. "Perhaps a moth of a different sort then. I did not think there was anyone around to hear me sing."
She wouldn't have done so if she'd thought it would have brought something to her.

"Mm... Problem there." He smirked teasingly as he gave his head a light toss; the same light toss that often upset his brother. There was something almost charmingly cocky about it. "... Moths don't sing. I'm afraid that makes you a bird of some sort... A little bird standing in a cool stream at night. Shouldn't you be at home where you're safe from the spooks?"

"The only sort of bird i'd be is a crow and they don't sing either." She laughed softly as she stepped out of the steam and shook her hooves off carefully.
"Spooks? If i was going to hide away from them it wouldn't be at home. My family is nothing but spooks." Her daddy even told them stories of a beautiful ghost that he knew that he hoped they'd get to meet one day. Spooks were just a part of life when you lived in her family.

"Mm... So you're a spook?" His brow lofted slightly and he couldn't help but chuckle. "Funny... Here I always thought that spooks were supposed to be big, mean, scary, ugly creatures. Is that your real face then or are you hiding something behind that black and white mask?"

"I am." She smiled and tossed her curls lightly. It was nice being a spook. It meant that all those things her daddy was worried about stayed away. "Spooks are never what you expect them to be. If they were how would they ever get to sneak up on people properly?"

"Why should i be giving you my name?" She watched him carefully. "What if you're some nasty thing wrapped up in a glowing package? Could be trying to draw me in so you can devour me."
She knew he wasn't. Daddy told her that the nasty things out there didn't talk to you first. They just pounced so since he'd warned her he couldn't be that bad.
