You may or may not know that hand-drawn pictures are not my forte. I have, however, decided that this is a skill I want to work on so without further ado, my most recent efforts appear!

All of these were done with a brushpen on paper and then effed with in paintshop. I know that they aren't good, so please do not think I mean to pass these off as quality work. They are here to be torn apart so ... tell me what you think.

The reason that I am working on this sort of style specifically is that I am gearing up to do a comic which will be in black and white. I haven't decided weather to use big blocky shadings like this or to do hatching which I am more used to.

I guess that this is potentially more stylish but I have to stay within my meager ability to make something look okay.

The first is defo the best because the perspective makes sense and they style is sharper and more comic. the only thin I don't like is the glow on the necklace, the image is a flat comic line art and the little glows are a completely different style so they look out of place imho

I would paint the necklace that colour in flat not fady.

As for the others, they eyes seem a bit flat and lacking, in need of a bit more ambiance. The cat girls upper arms and sholders are a bit odd.

For the boy, his hands are a bit pointy and in purple not blue?

The character is wearing pointy purple gloves.

You are definitely right about the necklace though - it pops too much to fit in well with that image.

As for the catgirl, can you be more specific about what you'd do differently?

I love the top one.
But the second holds a special place in my heart kekeke

Actually, I quite like the glow on the first.
Not the eye glow, but the necklace, makes them look all POWER-BEAD esque.
I am enjoying the hair as well.

These are better than your straight-digital work, though without the 'shopping they may be significantly more mundane.

You just need to work on your knowledge of anatomy more. Not to say you're ever going to work in a style that is anatomically correct, but that knowledge will help you push that style in a more aesthetically pleasing way.

Yeah I don't know why that is... I just can't seem to get comfortable with the tablet in the same way as real media.

For sure I need to practice anatomy. I have anatomical posters all about my walls in the hopes that they will absorb into my brains by being in my peripheral vision.

Probably I should work harder than that.

I just can't get into the way you draw eyes
The simplicity doesn't convey enough for me, and I think that more striking eyes would draw me into your pieces more.

I've heard that before but I'm not sure what to do about it.

An eye is not an a circle within an oval at all angles, in fact only directly from the front of the face.

Otherwise they take on all sorts of shapes. Try taking pictures of your self from different angles and looking in different directions also with different expressions and see how the eyes look.

All sorts of squiggily squinty shapes come out smile

and thats why you keep popping in to post in it right?

surprised

@ v: id like to see more dynamic poses and a bit of some backround something or other, the figures on their own arent doing enough for my eyes to keep me looking.

As a hipster, the iconoclast is required to participate in things she doesn't actually like to fulfill her irony requirement.
