She shivered as she lurked about in the shadows created by the setting sun. Oddly, she felt more comfortable when it was dark as night; daylight gave her the quivers. She had had a rough start when she had braved walking out into broad daylight--she met a rough and tumble stallion named Ramus, who seemed to have a good heart behind his wild nature.

Then, similarly, though the afternoon had slowly waned, she had met another stallion, blue as could be. She never got his name though; he had terrified her to the point she thought he'd eat her... in fact, the only thing that kept her remotely sane in that situation was the little critter riding on his back--the raccoon, whom she had taken a quick liking to, as it was extremely friendly and kind.

She took spooked, careful steps as she breezed by like smoke, skilled and yet unskilled in the art of being silent and discreet. Sharp, scarlet eyes scanned the bushes, ears twitching for any sound she hoped quietly wouldn't make her jump. Finally, after what seemed like an endless moment of motionlessness, she moved on. The sun was just peeking over the horizon now as the smoky-colored mare continued her lone trek, not expecting any company, slowly relaxing as the night cast her sparkling blanket.

A silent black body swayed smoothly to the tune of the winds, and the last remnants of the sun's setting rays did nothing to move his entire frame. It had been a lazy day, and so the white black-banded and tipped wings along his sides made no indication that they were to be put to use anytime soon. A fairly long white-tipped tail bound near the tip with an ornament trailed neatly behind, almost in a straight line. And most his mane covered his face, leaving but an opening for one eye to see if it wished.

But he had been lightly snoozing, and both eyes were closed for the time being. He assumed nothing would disturb such a placated being, and part of his assumption rose because it was rare for him to see any other type of obvious living creature in his travels... Perhaps he had yet to move into the more populated areas. But regardless, the stallion had spent many nights and many days alone since his past encounter with one that looked much like himself, barring the wings that graced his own body. But that was fine, anyways, as he had much to reflect upon after leaving his original homeland...

And a noise! One eye peeked open to discover the offender to the silence, and he saw a distinct shape moving through the trees interestingly... It was slow, so as to not create much disturbance, but the walk was also quick, as if it did not want anything to catch it... The stallion snorted brusquely and pondered momentarily whether the being deserved his attention. But then again, he did need exposure to others within the land, didn't he? Perhaps it was another four-hoofed just like him. In that case... He took himself up off the ground and began a silent, slow, dignified stroll towards the creature, red eyes locked onto the moving mass of black.

Was it her, or had the air become slightly warmer than it was before? Feeling like she was being watched, she promptly stopped her movement and took a look around, trying to figure out why she would feel as if she was being observed. She shivered subtlely, trying to keep from moving too much in the case it was a hunter that was eyeing her. Red eyes roved around in the darkness, cautious and suspicious, worried and defiant.

Of course, her defiance was but a slight mask, to help bolster her confidence rather than her fear, though it was obvious it wasn't working. Finally, she spotted something that looked unusual in the darkness, and her curiosity overwhelmed her need to flee at that exact moment. Swearing to herself that she thought the area had been thoroughly isolated, she crept forward towards the oddly shaped mass of black that looked odd against the pale light given by the moon. The forest should have been normal enough, and then she caught a different scent on the breeze.

Another Soquili.

Male.

...And probably she was going to get her butt kicked again. She hadn't met very many Soquili yet, but she already have enough of a frightening experience with two of them... or one of them. Shaking her head gently to rid herself of those thoughts, she finally approached what appeared to be, obviously, a stallion... with wings. She blinked, wondering if her imagination was running away with her in her fright. After several moments, she decided that he wasn't a figment of her mind games. She said nothing, though she noted that he, too, had red-colored eyes like her...

How odd.

Wasn't she the only dark-furred Soquili who had red eyes, besides the Kalonas? Her old homeland was filled with them, the demonic equines, all of whom had hell-ish red eyes. Because she grew up there, cultivated by the hunters themselves to later either become a quick rut or food, she, too, gained the color of red eyes. Perhaps this male had also come from her homeland, to escape the terrors?

...No. Probably not.

Her lips tightened, and she slowly tried to back away, hoping the male hadn't yet noticed her... and yet knowing that it was also too late to think so.

The black stallion observed the form halt in its tracks almost as soon as he had started his; the other, he figured, must have possessed very acute sensing skills, for he was not one usually caught in movement across the night, being dark himself. But that did not halter his steps. He had proudly moved himself forth into the night; he moved unto the spot where the figure had shifted, and could have sworn he spotted two distinct yet faint scarlet eyes just at first--and then he stopped.

He was in front of it--no, her. If it hadn't been for his precise vision during the night (as he sometimes enjoyed casually strolling through at this time, being a stallion of coloration that concealed during this light), he would have otherwise mistaken the mare for something... else. His expression was a puzzled one, but then it exploded into a bold smile, recognizing the brighter stripe down the mare's nose and her almost-red eyes to be similar to whatever he saw in watery reflections, or what he may have thought to look like if he were of the opposite gender. But her light stripe and marks down the legs were not as brilliant as his, but that was given, as there was clearly no one else in the world that could be expected to surpass, or even be on his level of magnificence!

"What are you doing, trying to sneak away from such a glorious opportunity to meet a handsome stallion?" he asked, and was fortunately serious in his asking. Perhaps he was feeling a bit too abrupt tonight, though it wasn't unusual in his nature to be this bold from time to time. Why can't one flaunt themselves if appropriate, right?

She froze in her movements as soon as the stallion approached her and spoke. Bold and sure... are all stallions like this!? She thought to herself wryly, despite how she was terrified out of her wits. Her scarlet gaze swept the stallion quickly, assessing him carefully. Not a hunter? He didn't smell like it. He sure seemed really confident though... N'rai envied that, a bit. She wished she was more bold.

...However, at the moment, she in a state of startled fright. Post-shock, probably, because she wasn't expecting the stallion to approach her of all mares. Her brief glance at him told him he spoke truth about being handsome--he truly was. She gulped, knowing her face had heated in embarrassment despite how her dark fur hid such a discoloration, and she lowered her head in a shaky, respectful bow. "...G... Greetings," she spoke hoarsely, knowing her voice was raspy-sounding.

Compared to the beautiful voice of the stallion in front of her, she felt ugly and belittled. She was wearied of her constant paranoia but she couldn't help it. "I... Uh... well..." she floundered for words, not sure how to explain to him that she thought he was a predator. She fell silent and remained so as she shivered under the glinting gaze of the Wind Soquili male. Her eyes were lowered so that she didn't meet his red-eyed gaze that looked so much like her own... though stronger.

A continued reassuring smile rested upon the winged stallion's face, so sure of himself. The female before him was clearly stunned from seeing such perfection before her--he would allow her a moment of rest before she would go out of that shock. Until then, he glorified her with his overbearing presence.

She had gone into a bow that resonated respect for him, and he was used to that. He responded to that with a light nod, and then tilted his head when she gave a weak welcome. Could one possibly be held down with that much shock to his presence? Surely he didn't mean to overwhelm with his grandiose!

"Yes?" he calmly sounded as she stretched for words, while trying to back a little more into the shadows so as to minimize his features so that the mare before him would not be as intimidated. He accepted her lowered gaze as something to be expected as well; those around him in the days since he was born did that as a sign of respect and reverence.

"Don't be afraid to speak! You cannot let the presence of one such as myself awe you so, as you hold similarities to behold as well!" he noted the mare's seemingly likeness to parts of himself, though no one would ever in actuality be able to compare. For one, the mare lacked the long, flowing jet black hair he was blessed with, and with the disappearance of wings--he had noticed that most especially--the only thing that connected the two soquili were the almost objective similar markings and sleek black body.

She flinched at his tone of voice, and soon realized that perhaps she had met with one of the more revered ones the hunters were always spouting off about. She flicked an ear, and remained in her familiar position of being bowed, with eyes lowered. She remembered that in her foalhood she had been taught never to disrespect those above her, but she had never seen the "royalty" so she didn't realize it at first when she first met him!

"I... Your Majesty, I b-beg forgiveness," she spoke softly, head lowered. "I-I cannot bear any s-s-s-such similarities t-t-to you..." She knew what he spoke of, but compared to him, she was a mess. Mud was caked onto her legs; dust streaked everywhere on her fur and mane and tail. If one looked hard enough it could be seen; she never cared for looks, though. She had always been too busy trying to stay alive.

Being in a foreign place, so different from where she had grown up, she realized that the overwhelming presence had backed off somewhat. Wondering if she had fended herself and groveled well enough, she slowly raised her head, her soft, terrified gaze finally meeting the eyes of the other. Truly, he must be one of the ones who the hunters always said wanted the best, and she lowered her head once more.

A child of the gods? She couldn't speak. If he were truly a child of the gods, she had not done well to please him... she would be killed!

The stallion hesitated ever so slightly. The mare's flinch and too obvious position of respect--though it was too much respect--made him falter a bit in his next words and actions. Surely this one was outdoing it?

"Majesty?" he had to chuckle at the title--he had never seen the mare before, so unless mistaken, how would she have thought of him to be royalty? The thought of that lingered far too long inside his head, and though he would enjoy toying with the idea of descending from a line of royalty, he wasn't fit to be in such a high, overly hyped up position... yet. He attempted to hush the mare as she stumbled upon her words, hoping he would calm her--he didn't mean to frighten the poor thing into submission.

"Ah, call me Notos, kind lady, there is nothing to forgive, you did not do anything..." He smiled to her reassuringly, letting her know that there was no crime she had committed besides an overdose on reverence. He did not notice her unkempt hair and unbecoming body in general, especially since the night hid away with the dirtied features. If in the daylight, he might have been turned off by the sight, as he kept himself as pristine and clean as much as he could.

His eyes brightened as he saw the female turn her gaze up, finally coming out of her sedated state, but was disappointed that when, after meeting eye contact for less than a split second, she reverted back to a recessive position. He hid his frown and stretched out the tip of his wing to tap her back, almost as if he wished to comfort her while getting her to look up again.

"Stop that, who do you think I am?" Even he thought it was all too much, and now desired no more than the female to be a little more bold in her reactions. "Submission is something we must learn to practice in moderation, yes?"

She wasn't sure how to take this prince. It was so... how did she put it, it was extraordinary that she had the chance to encounter one, but if she were to anger him...? Would he set the hunters on her? ...Well, she was food... His laugh made her realize that she had somehow pleased him (what had she done?) and that was enough to relax her--slightly. N-Notos... His name echoed in her mind for a moment, as she stumbled a bit over her tongue trying to say his name like he wanted.

However... "P-Prince... N-N-N-Notos... this humble mare is honored you would s-s-s-s-s-share your name..." she whispered, just loud enough for him to hear. For once, she was conscious of her looks, and realized she was in no condition to be even within walking distance of this stallion. He was too much... She felt close to fainting, and not because she was a big fan, but because she was terrified and awed all at once, and the mixed feelings were making her a touch nauseous.

She twitched when he told her to stop (stop what?), but did as he bid and slowly got out of her position of respect (though originally it had been one of terror). She achingly, slowly, brought up her gaze to once more meet the "prince's" gaze, and couldn't help but wonder how he had such similar looking colors when she finally had a good look at him (well, as good a look as she would be able to, at this time of night). "Y-You... you are not one of them?" she asked in a small voice.

What did he mean, "who do you think I am?" she wondered. Maybe he was the rumored lost royal blood? No, that couldn't be...? But then the way he held himself...? She now stared unerringly at Notos, but the staring was unintentional--after all, N'rai was now lost in her thoughts. It hadn't occurred to her she had yet to tell him her name... then again, perhaps Notos had no care for knowing such a thing...

Was this mare so enchanted that she could not bear his importance? Notos felt a little sorry for her--and had rarely met one with such an exaggerated temper, that, like she, was at a loss for words. He nodded eagerly as she stuttered upon her words--not a very attractive thing to do, but understandable given the circumstances--and awaited for the end of her grateful albeit softly-spoken speech.

He remained silent as he noticed a change in something about the mare that gave a clue that she was near the point of fainting--but the fainthearted he rarely dealt with, as his splendor was much too significant to bear for some of them.

Through his silence, and then suddenly to his surprise, gaze met gaze as the mare finally regained her composure, and a stronger smile came on his face as he was glad that she had found confidence to look at his magnificent pure red eyes. He was about to commend her for the deed, until her small voice came timidly to the air.

"One of them?" Notos repeated, perplexed by the inquiry. "Who would they be?"

He eyed the mare once more and subconsciously shook his head, knowing well that whoever they were, must not have been him, unless his family's prominence had spread to other lands? He came from a small land occupied purely by winds like himself, so a common mare surely wouldn't have the capabilities of recognition at this time.

Through with his thoughts, Notos looked back at the mare to find her staring at him in the most peculiar way; it was as if she were seeing right through him. Amused, he tapped the mare's shoulder by unfolding a wing to share its graceful touch, and retreated it as soon as he had tapped. "Are you all right there, mare? You seem to be, if I have the authority to say so, a bit out of the normal reality tonight. Has your bedtime passed?" He hoped the small joke would calm the mare's flightiness.

She roused herself quickly when she felt a sudden tap on her shoulder, which surprised her and she ended up staring just a bit longer in shock at Notos, before she shook her head and smiled a little. "I... I'm sorry, Majesty. I... was lost in my thoughts... bedtime?" she finished, confusion taking over her expression as she tried to comprehend what he was saying. "What is bedtime?" She asked, perplexed. "Uh..." she blushed, seeing that he was implying she was insane... well, perhaps not insane, but somewhere very near the word. He then asked who she spoke up, they being the emphasized word.

Shuddering, she answered him carefully. "The hunters," she explained, or vaguely explained, or... well, whatever explanation she was thinking, since N'rai was too scared to say what they were out loud; they could hear her if she spoke much louder, and she really didn't want to involve others if they did not know about the "hunters". She congratulated herself for not fainting; however, she also felt chagrined to see that Notos had noticed this change in the air, and silently scolded herself for acting so rude!

"Your... Majesty," she began slowly, also noting that her stuttering was probably grating on the prince's nerves, "I... seem to have... lacked in my manners tonight," she continued, lowering her eyes again and began to form a bow. "I... I am N'rai T'sii, Your Majesty... it... it is most certainly a wondrous thing to meet you." There, she had finally introduced herself. This prince, he was ever so kind, and patient, and certainly very, very... well, majestic. She giggled silently to herself, and then forced herself to be serious. It was very apparent now that he was not chasing her, and so N'rai opened herself a little more.

The mare's antics through the night kept Notos occupied, or at the very least, well humored that he was feeling quite splendid in the company of such a fine lady. She knew her boundaries well, and had the most perfected mannerisms (albeit slightly exaggerated) when it came to treating those of his kind. It was almost, as they termed it, "too good to be true". However, Notos was not one to reject an offer of such praise if one so willingly gave it.

"Worry not," he said simply to the black mare, sensing that she was putting too much thought or something in the situation so that she couldn't keep still. Hushing her, he decided he now had a slight moral obligation to keep the mare safe for the night from whatever she was talking about, as her speech became more stern.

"I shall do you the courtesy to find some sort of refuge for the night, yes?" Notos stated firmly, not expecting an answer, but a prompt thanks instead. His decision was clear, though he continued to reply to her before deciding which path the trek would be taken on. "Humble N'rai T'sii," he nodded at her bow, "You may get up; I am glad to have come upon one such as yourself tonight. Your knowledge of mannerisms is impeccable, might I say! But come, we will talk while we travel to an enclosure... I think I myself wouldn't mind a little niche to rest in tonight."

Notos stepped away at once, taking the path near where he had been stationed at earlier. Though the darkness hid faraway things well, if memory served him, the two would be at the bottom of a cliff side with numerous hollowed out areas not so very far off. The night was growing chilly, and it would do good to stay away from the coldest of winds tonight.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 21, 2008 10:49 pm

She immediately calmed down according to Notos' request, and looked at him attentively. Worry not? she pondered, and then understood that he meant she shouldn't be fretting over any dangers. ...oh, that's right, because he's a prince! She thought, cheering up. Then, she found herself staring at him like he was crazy to have offered a Soquili lower than his status shelter, when it should have been her offered, not the other way around. Still, though, who was she to refuse, if only not to be insulting but also for the security of knowing she was in safe hooves?

The way he spoke brooked no argument, anyway... not that she would refuse! Not a prince... never! She only nodded her head, and then accidentally let loose a squeak of protest when he bowed to her. "Y... yes, Your Majesty," she agreed without thought that time. He was intending to shelter her? Such a kind stallion... somehow, however, N'rai felt she was imposing on his privacy... it was the weirdest feeling, but she kept silent, and only followed him. So, she stood as he ordered, and waited until he made a movement, unless of course he wished for her to find one for him, which she'd gladly do! But no... ah, she was thinking too much, he had already stepped ahead of her!

Moving to keep up with his pace, beside him but not quite, shivering slightly when a cold breeze blew by. If only she had noticed it was getting colder earlier! She shouldn't have distracted Notos like that; he'd probably not like how his prim appearance would be if the winds kept up like this! And she... she herself still hadn't bathed and cleaned herself up probably, either... disaster. When the morning came, she would have to slip away before he awoke, so he wouldn't be dirtied with her presence any longer... nodding to herself, she kept pace carefully.

Notos eyed the mare N'rai T'sii just once to make sure she had started to tag along, but glanced no more after that. His hooves swept through the floor's grass, gracing each blade with his kingly caress, as the light breeze brushed past his fur, as if leading the way for him. The moon casted a pallid light that diminished with each step further down the path, and Notos knew he was nearing the hollowed residence that would suit for the night. After all, with the limited abilities of his fated company, there was an obligation to hear the needs of his subject, and make at least an attempt to fit them. And fit them well he did, he thought, as he prided himself on his natural ability to please all with his appearance and intelligence.

As the handsome stallion indulged himself with many thoughts of achievement and greatness thanks to the silence given by N'rai T'sii, time was able to pass by quickly when he had reached the opening of the temporary night residence. Notos looked back calmly to see if his companion had stayed with him, though there was no question about it. One would have surely been mad to not bless themselves with his superior company--it was like rejecting a gift from higher beings above!

"Here we go, N'rai T'sii," he offered, nodding towards the entrance. The moon's rays were barely light enough to offer an insight as to what was in the cave, and it was safe. Good judgment was never lost to Notos, of course. "Though I wonder--are we to retire now, or should I ask you more of your background, and perhaps follow up with a question on what you had been talking about earlier, kind N'rai T'sii?"
