Perhaps none of you can even help, but it's worth a shot, yes?

As I said in the Chatterbox, I lost my job this weekend.
.. and well, I'm moving across the world in less than a year ._.
I need to make between 3-4k, to be comfortable, and not scared, considering I could end up in a small town with low rent, or London where rent is high o.o
We won't know where we're moving till I get there...

Now, the dilema:
As you should also all have noticed from the Christmas thread, Gaughan is coming to visit me this Christmas =D
However this means I cannot look for a new job. It would be unfair to him to have to stay home, and for my new employer to take time off then
Soonest I can look is mid-January. Not so many are hiring, and that leaves me with about 6 months.
So till then, I've came up with an idea.
Sell stuff online.
First things that I already have and need to get rid of [I have a few guitars, vintage clothes that don't fit, etc.] and then start making things to sell.
I was thinking to start out with an Ebay Sellers account first, since it's easiest, and then perhaps get my own site up, an on google, and such...

I have a few ideas as to what to make..
..I'm being taught how to screen-print in the spring so it'll be easier to pump out mass-quantities of things, but I was thinking eco-friendly [because everyone loves eco-friendly] bookbags, cards, prints [silk-screening, and photography], jewellery, and a few clothing commisions [since it's very time consuming, and difficult when you can't try things on people for fit].
I can also get those sorts of things [minus the clothes] put into local art shoppes if I can produce fair quantities [Like, at least 5 of each thing in the same design] through my Mum and friends that work in those shoppes, and other acquantences.
Starting out just hand-painting things.
I'm also thinking about going into ceramic decopaging, with vintage plates, and teacups, and such.

... do any of you think I'd do okay? D=
My favourite artist, Eleanor Grosch, sells 50 editions of each of her prints for $40. I calculated it out, and with all her prints currently out, that's $78,000. She started out doing gig posters, and I've just recently delved into that with my theatre group.
I don't plan for that, I'm just hoping for 4k.
Do you think I can do that in 6 months, running my own bussiness [sort've]?

If anyone is interested, I ave sites with the sort of things I'd make.
Oh, and here's the t-shirts I recently designed for my theatre group [over 60 kids]:

er..
Yeah Dx
Thoughts? Ideas?

I'd say go for it. You've really got nothing to lose by it.

Let me know when you get set up. I'll make a mention on Double-Oh.

Well, I could lose money.
Ebay account costs $$, and if I start to make things, purchasing supplies costs $$.

I thought eBay accounts were free.

And then they had like certain kind of options that was mostly for pictures, and descriptions.

To sell things costs money. They charge on your sales, something like 5% and then there's a [I believe it was] $1 listing fee, even if you don't sell anything =S
There was another fee too I've forgotten.
I'm just worried I'll get screwed out of my money that I already have so little of.

Would you...be able to make T-Shirts? I mean, I would do horrible things to people to get some katamari damacy T-Shirts. I would even shell out some cash! :O

You can sorta draw right? Or take pictures? You could screw around with stuff like that and make some pretty sick T-Shirts. I think it would be a great business, so long as you had a way to make them. =D

As for the teacups and art and vintage stuff...definatly! People buy that stuff all the time. Especially teacups I'd say. Theres a whole gang of gangs that collect that sorta thing, and depending on the manufacturer you can make some serious moolah.

But you never explained why you lost your original job. No way of getting it back? You said it was a better job than McDonalds.

This one agrees with Tofu. Selling T-shirts sounds like a decent idea. When This one's teacher (who taught screenprinting) made a fair bit of extra money by having his own shirt making buisiness.

But you never explained why you lost your original job. No way of getting it back? You said it was a better job than McDonalds.

My boss said I'd asked for too much time off, and it wasn't working.

Actually, I was never even given a chance.
I asked for one weekend off, about 3 weeks ago, and a few evenings off in the past few weeks, which shouldn't have been a problem at all, since I don't usually work evenings.
.. it wasn't working because the moron gave me one 4-hour shift a week, and complained she couldn't fit me in any more.
How's one supposed to learn and get the hang of something like an entirely different till system at 4 hours a week?
I shake my head at the whole thing.
I came in earlier in the day to collect my paycheque, and she said I had to come back later and have a chat since I'd asked for alot of time off over christmas.
I said to her, "Er.. I told you specifically I'd be around all christmas, and the week that everyone's still in school, I could pull a few more shifts-" but she cut me off, quite rudely, and said, "Yeah, whatever, just come by later."
At that point she'd already fired me, it didn't matter that she was completely wrong. There was nothing I could do.
When I came back that evening, a new girl was working there. She'd already hired someone else before evening firing me.
She gave me a free drink. The new girl made it, and asked about 3 times if it was soy milk or regular. I told her specifically I'm lactose entolerant.
I leave.
Go back to improv.
Drink it behind stage, still getting over the shite feeling.
15 minutes later I feel horribly ******** moron didn't use soymilk.

When I got home later I ended up on the bathroom ******** floor, in pain.

I loved the job. Hated my boss. She was rude. She was impatient. I was never given a chance. I came home crying a few times because she was so ******** rude.

I don't want to go back there. I'd love to work in another coffee shoppe, ut not one she's at.

I agree with Tofu >.>

Well, I don't plan on screen printing plain ol' t-shirts.
Make beautiful prints, and only put them on shite t-shirts? That's blasphemous.
If I were to screen clothes, the clothes would have to be quite nice on their own.
I dislike plain old tshirts =P

Plain ol' t-shirts will get you more revenue than anything else. T-shirts always will have a simple allure. Cheap, too. I done some shopping at the craft store for a wardrobe on several occasions.

Selling T-shirts = Lots o' Cash.
Srsly, I dish out like £15 on T-shirts sometimes, simply because they have some sort of funky logo on them.

Also - I've been running an Ebay account for like two years - The percentage that Paypal take from you is ******** annoying.
Someit like 15% of each sale.
But there are ways around this, for example, setting the price of something to 1p - And putting the Postage price to your required profit. This way, Paypal get nothing.
Or you can use an alternative ways.
Such as Cash in the post - Not the best way, but still, it works.

Butbutbutbutbut...$... >>;

Sure Plain-ol' T-Shirts aren't that nifty, but if you plan on making sweet T-Shirts (especiall Katamari Damacy >>) then bad quality T-Shirts but good quality prints is where you might have to start off. D; Once you get some more profit from the business, then you can use better T-Shirts and then advertise the new-betterness, and make it yet another reason to buy a Shirt.
