He only gets off the computer to get ready for work or if I'm walking to the bedroom. He constantly plays NWN, reads/writes NWN bulliten boards, and watches streaming anime.
I have to nag him to stop so he can do the dishes so I can cook dinner... and then he beggs me to tell him what's hapening in the game and makes me type what he says. Like, "*nod* *pats her head and holds her* 'I know.'" Which I concider borderline.........
His idea of spending time with me is having me watch anime on his computer with him...........
Help... Coments......

I used to be addicted to a particular website. I started scheduling 'computer free' time (kind of the reverse of most people). Then I scheduled a day a week where I would not visit that site. And even without my presence the site still managed to function! I had to realize I got caught up in a fantasy world and was having a lot of fun, and at some point it became, I don't know, real, important, an obsession, all of the above, some mixture of the three. It was hard at first because I have OCD and obsessions come easily to me, but I got over it and now I can go for days without visiting that site and I really don't care. I only stay with it because of friendships in my guild. From obsession to barely there.
Having said that, if your husband is willing to go along with it, have him schedule away time, computer turned off, even for an hour. The website will not crash because he leaves wink Even RP characters sleep and disappear for a while only to reappear at a later date. Slowly wean him down. But also remember that it is important to him and not to trivialize it. Also, stop taking his place at the keyboard, or trade him for it. If there is something important happening you'll take his place tonite, but on Thursday night he has to get off for 2 hours so you all can have some couples time. And get it in writing if he's the kind to forget.
As to the psychology behind all of it, I can only generalize since I've never met him. What is the draw on this website for him? What's the payoff? What does he get to give or express through RP that he can't in his own life? Have you examined what kind of character he plays? Maybe you two can do some RP of your own, for fun. heart wink

THank you.
after a little crying and determining that there was a bunch of miscomunication, I got him to spend time together playing my Dynasty Warriors 4.
He want's to play it more now that he realizes that the game I used to play alot with my family as a family effort(we each chose a few different charecters each) will start anew on his memory card.

My hubby tends to spend his evenings on his computer (we each have our own) and it was getting so bad that we hardly ever did anything together. I finally resorted to chucking random pieces of clothing at him to get his attention. rofl Nothing says "Hunny remember ME?!" like a bra landing on your head. xd Now we use that as the signal to each other that one of us is feeling neglected. lol

I have to say, I'm one of those people who spends a lot of time on the computer too. I don't mean to, but the time goes by so quickly when I am online I don't even notice it. Maybe your hubby doesn't realize how much time he's actually online?
