That's right Xera coming with you another hot topic.
We all know that you never mess with a classic no matter how many flaws or bad it is. But, in reality could it be better? We all know that remakes sometimes take the charm of the original games and sometimes makes games less appreciated than usual but..Are they all that bad?
In fact some remakes of games made them even better. Like Super Mario Bros 2. or Doki Doki Panic as they know in Japan. The GBA remake was wonderful and got good reviews on it. As well as the Metal Gear Solid remake on the GCN. However it doesn't always been true..Some remakes like Sonic The Hedgehog for the GBA have been terrible.
So how do we take remakes? Do we as gamers welcome the fact that the game could be worse or better.
So what is the ultimate deal? ........Memories.

We as fans of our respected games hope remakes of them will turn out well and don't change the feel of the game we love so much. That's why we see some games that stray off too much get criticized. Others do the game justice and actually fix the game as int he GBA Legend of Zelda re-release. Crystals 5 & 6 were messed up. You had to get an item at Crystal 6's temple in order to get Crystal 5. So you basically got Crystal 6 before 5. In the GBA version they made it so you wouldn't need/or use at all the item at 6 that was previously needed to get through 5. That was a good remake for reasons such as that. Though we know it isn't always the case. Some things they change may not be for the best. For example, in the Super Mario World remake for GBA, they changed Luigi's jump to me more like his floating jump in Super Mario Bros 2. I didn't think that belonged in Super Mario World and I didn't like that. On the flip side I like how on the GBA.Super Mario All Stars version Mario and Luigi actually look different. In the SNES version the only difference is one is red and one is green. Here's how Luigi's look changed: Speaking of Super Mario All Stars, what you you all think of Mario and the board's graphic changes from the NES to SNES? Here's examples of what I mean: The ones on the left are the original NES versions and the ones on the right are the re-released Super Mario All Star release.

I think remaking is good to some extent.
Take Final Fantasy for example. I was real little/just getting into videogames when the first few came out. If they weren't remade, I wouldn't have ever got to play them. I also like how when they remade the FF games, they fixed the ******** up numbering system; re-numbering them correctly. Added dungeons and sound/graphic upgrades are a plus... not to mention without remakes, fans would never get to play the awesome Final Fantasy III... the only FF game that didn't reach North America (until its remake on the DS).
Going back to my original point, remakes allow gamers to re-live games they loved. I love Tactics, but I don't have my PS1 anymore, and my tactics got lost. Fortunately, when I get a PSP, I'll be able to re-live my 90's gaming years in a portable version.
Remakes are bad when they keep re-making the game. Once or twice is fine, but I'm getting tired of seeing the same two or three FF games on 3 or 4 consoles. D:

[Xera] ...Could you say that remakes are an easy way a company like Square and Nintendo to make easy money? Well it's always their goal to make money but whether they are doing is for easy money really depends on the game series as some with give them easy money while others not so much. Also if they hype up the re-make it could more than likely be for easy money than a game remake that don't get much hype around it or if it is part of a promotion. (Like The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition which was available only in bundles, by registering Gamecube and two games at Nintendo.com, or by subscribing or renewing a subscription to Nintendo Power or Club Nintendo.)

tangocat777 They're putting NiGHTS on the PS2, and FE1 on the DS. Discussion over. The Saturn NiGHTS?... I don't think the discussion is over Tango. There is still some speculation that some companies just do it for the money. But then again don't all. However I think that in fact there are some remakes are needed but then again I don't think there are games that shouldn't be re-made at all. Also I hope there isn't a market for remakes. Then just that would be boring...Seriously no more Street Fighter II games enough already. x.x;

You know the Sonic Mega Collection and Sonic Mega Collection Plus? I think that was a good remake and done for a good reason. It was done well I think.

Depends on the remake. I think remakes should be changed/improved in a lot of areas such as gameplay/AI/controls, but should still remain identical to the original in terms of characters, story, design, script. If you ask me, remakes are just like folktales--passed down so a new generation can appreciate them. If they're similar to their original form but still are changed to live up to modern day standards, then a newer crop of gamers can appreciate them.
Plus, if you like the remakes, play it. If you don't, play the original.

Additionally, Pokemon Snap with additional functionality and Shining Force 2 on VC FTW. Also, everybody does these things for money. Nintendo and Sega simply want to please fans while making money.

If they can make another good Mario 3D game they can definitely do it with Donkey Kong. I'd be first in line to buy it.

It was very creative, both in terms of 2D gameplay mechanics and obviously the actual input mechanics included with the game, sported some beautiful graphics that outdo half of the Xbox 360's games, and offered some great nostalgia effect by keeping DK 2D. If Nintendo got the EAD team (the team responsible for both Jungle Beat and Mario Galaxy) back on the DK franchise and they could think up something creative for a DK platformer, then I would totally buy it.
