Stories of werewolves have been told time and time again since before anyone can remember. The werewolf has now become a household word, and no movie, to my knowledge, has been true to the werewolf legend, but the films are still great. What are the best werewolf movies? In your opinion?

For me, it's hard to decide which one's the best. All of them have been so good!!! I just guess it's more original since everyone does vamps so much that it's all the same, normal crud. Can I just say I'm in love with all of them?

I actually haven't seen that many werewold movies. From what I have seen though, I would say the old black and white Wolfman is my favorite.

Probably most of the werewolf movies you name I haven't seen so please recommend me some more and I shall go watch them. whee

Ginger Snaps, filled to the brim with metaphors for puberty, womanhood, and social concerns young adults need to become aware of, will be the smartest werewolf film now and forever.
John Landis' An American Werewolf in London is a very close second though; I always love how the two American students are attacked the second they set foot off the trail.

Some of my favorites would have to be An American Werewolf In London, Ginger Snaps, and probably Silver Bullet.
Out of curiousity has anyone seen The Boy Who Cried Werewolf? blaugh

Ah, my favorite myth. I love werewolves, even though vampires are interesting they definitely beat vampires. I'm really interested in the history of lycanthropes and I love werewolf movies... I've seen a few, Ginger Snaps was pretty good despite the semi-cheesy effects, but the sequel "Ginger Snaps Back" kind of sucked. American Werewolf In London was alright, and I liked Underworld a lot, loved the effects. I think that was the first movie with werewolves that actually had great special effects. I'm pretty picky about that, I think it ruins/takes a lot out of a movie when the blood is orange, the werewolves look überfake, the vampires have glowing green eyes etc. but yeah, I'd have to say so far Underworld is my favorite.... I've seen other werewolf movies of course, but most were so stupid I can't even remember the names, and I wish people would make more werewolf films, everyone's obsessed with vampyres...

Paul Naschy's film, La Noche de Walpurgis, which is out on dvd under the name "Werewolf Shadow," is very atmospheric, and although is low budget, Naschy surpasses in flying colors! It was put out by anchor bay, and it is one of my favorites. As for Curse of the Werewolf, it is coming out on dvd soon, and many say it is the best film since the "old black and white one" that you describe.
