My question is, how many Christians out there actually read the Bible? and no, I don't mean a verse or two, or a bunch of different ones from different books in the Bible? A good secondary question is how many Atheists actually read at least a bit of the Bible before coming to the conclusion that it's not the truth? Another good one is, What book did you read in the Bible if you did?

I know I for one don't look at the Bible much, I only look up single verses in other books that talk about it, the same goes with the internet.

Yeah it is kind of a tragedy where Christians are just letting down their guards and leaving room for the enemy in nearly everything they do. Most Christians today don't have a sword(Ephesians), they are completely vulnerable. Christianity is supposed to be a LOGICAL faith. Jesus said love the Lord YOUR God with all your Heart, MIND, and Strength...
God breathed His word so that we could know Him. I think we miss the point alot of times and abandon the true goal; that is having a relationship with our eternal father.
Knowing this if any so called Christian wouldn't be compeled to read God's Word, then I'd say they'd seriously need to examine theirselves. Because if they loved God they would want to know and even more they'd need to know Him.

A Prayer for the Ephesians

Wait so your an Agnostic or just some other religion? I'm not trying to get off topic, but haven't you posted a lot in this guild, giving Christian(I think) based advice?

Also, can I ask what part of the Bible you've read?

I'm agnostic (now) and I read it occasionally. I've read all the gospels and a handful of letters.

I keep a Bible in the top drawer of my nightstand, and I've read most of it. I really like the Psalms a lot, and I love to read over the stories about Jesus's lifetime in the Gospels. heart

Other would be a good start but you will find there is a lot of overlapping between different religions and cultures.

I attended a Catholic school and one of the morning activities was mass. Every day there would be a new section and it followed us into the classroom. But that was many years ago.

I have read James, Revelations, Hebrews, Philemon, Obidiah(OT) Jonah(OT) Nehimah, Ester i think and Ephisians, Phillipians.. 1 and 2 timothy, and i think i have read almost all of romans and

*looking at poll* emo wow, so everyone here has read at least a book in the bible, so have I but only in bits and pieces(thats why I thought I couldn't put myself as a person that read one). So is everyone here Bible devotees, with no beginner Christians that have just chosen to be one?

I have read it once all the way through and am about halfway on the second time around. I will be beginning Proverbs tomorrow.

I've read several books - though at the very beginning of the year I'd just read one all the wy through - revelations.

It seems I read more out of the old testament, though that's not necessarily true - I've read a lot in the old testament as well. I really like Ecclesiastes, Job, Mark, and Romans.

thanks guys, your comments inspire me to read it more throughly, I'll try to read a whole book later today. biggrin This is also a side question, Do you completely understand what your reading? Old Testament books are hard to understand because of the culture of different writings in those eras. And Revelations can be very hard to interpret! An example is the very first book Genesis, the first chapter can make much more sense interepted symbolic and metaphorically speaking. Like 7 days to God could be 5 billion years to us if He wanted it that way, just so He could also give us the sabbath day for everyone to rest.

Kralegna, I would recommend studying what you are reading with someone who is more familiar with the text, like a pastor. The benefits from doing this are numerous.

As for the first chapter of Genesis, there is nothing to suggest that the six days of creation are figurative. Moses wrote the book in a very literal and historical way. In other words, God really did create the world in six literal days, because arguing a longer period of time detracts from Christ. If you would like me to elaborate, I will.

The book of Revelation on the other hand, is written in a figurative way. The very style John uses in the book suggests that we should not take the book literally.

I do a long commute 5/7 of the week, 3-4 Hours each day.
I found a great way for me was an audible bible version (I've 2 different versions)
(After all it says Faith comes by Hearing wink )

I've read the whole Bible through 3 times. Some Bibles have reading plans for 1 or 3 years - so it's pretty easy to do. I recommend getting a good commentary to help with some of the difficult parts, or understanding some of the history, customs so you get more out of it!
