Why stop now?
Here's another good movie, in the same place that Thumbsucker is.
Not as good as Thumbsucker, but it's worth the time it takes to sit down and watch it. Gah, I haven't seen it in a long long time, but here goes nothing:
Pretty Persuasion tells the story of how three teenage girls ruined their teacher's life by accusing him of sexual harrassment. Kimberly Joyce is the manipulating schemer who convinces her two friends Randa, a timid middle eastern girl that Kimberly has taken under her loving wing, and Brittany, an all-american blonde, to tell what Mr. Anderson did to them. Until the (sadly) predictable ending is played the audience wonders if their stories are true or if they are just a fabrication of a teenage girl's vindictive mind. Pretty Persuasion takes a stab at the "Mean Girls" mentality that high school girls have adopted these days by adding a sadistic twist. It also mocks the serious attention hollywood pays to fame and body image. It's an overdone social issue to mock, I realize but Pretty Persuasion does a nice job of not being too unoriginal. (<--double negative =D. I thought I should point that out.)
It stars a personal favorite actress of mine, Rachel Evan Wood. :]
It's quite hard to explain since the movie backtracks on itself a lot. It adds to the quality of the storytelling but makes it confusing to explain.
