Khepri had wandered away from her mother and her brothers momentarily, but not far away that she couldn't call for help if something happened. They were just beyond the hill that rose behind her, so she was basically doing her own thing. At the moment, though, she was flashing about her horn in the sparkling sun, smiling prettily at how beautiful and shiny it was. Unlike her brothers, she had no trouble keeping herself prim, proper, and beautiful. It was something she picked up from her mother very quickly, and being the youngest, as well as the only girl in the family, made it that much easier.
Khepri skipped along, careful to keep her golden hooves away from the mud at least, as dust could be easily washed off with a quick rinse. She was quite happy to be away from the headaches that were her brothers, who both often argued who was handsomer than the other. Well, for one thing, she knew they were both extremely handsome, but since they were her brothers, she couldn't very well say so. They were family, it was an obvious and quite often used compliment that fell carelessly from her lips.
In the end, though, she herself was noted to become extraordinarily beautiful as she became older. As she walked along, expecting herself to be alone for the better part of the limited time she had to herself, she was soon to have unexpected company. The first male she'd meet outside of her family, her first taste of the real world that held so much more than what she knew or saw. Khepri would soon understand the smaller intricate meanings of the world beyond...

"Hey! Hold on! I just want to- Woah!"
Earlier that morning, Ochoco had once more left his family to give chase to a rogue butterfly that had strayed too close. But that soon flew out of sight and he found a chipmunk soon after. He was in the midst of chasing this small, brown creature when he got to the top of a rather muddy hill. Apparently it had rained the night before and he hadn't counted on losing his footing, nor could he have known that there was another foal on the other side of the hill, in what was kind of like a bowl between the one he stood on and another.
Before either could utter a word, the blue and orange colt was flat on his rump and sliding smack into the young filly, getting mud all over the both of them. Ochoco flicked some mud-dipped mane out of his eyes and smiled sheepishly at her. "Sorry. You okay?" So graceful...

She had glanced up in time to hear an unfamiliar voice calling out, but she couldn't make out what it was saying. Then, the next thing she knew, she saw a flash of blue and gold come tumbling towards her at a speed that she knew she would be unable to avoid. Not only that, but there was a muddy avalanche headed in her direction. Before she could raise the alarm with a scream, she was tackled by the foal in mud and splattered with the icky, gooey, nasty, mud. She was so shocked that, all she could do was stare at herself and then stare at her new "friend" that had decided to get her dirty. Really, really, dirty. She wailed silently at her misfortune.
Why had this happened to her? Her mother would be furious if she saw Khepri in this condition! Trying hard not to cry at her sudden mud bath she glowered with watery eyes at the other foal, unable to tell if it was male or female, so covered in mud were they. Khepri could tell it was a foal, however, from his size. She wasn't stupid, from what she could see of the mud-covered idiot, he too had a horn like her. Still somewhat shocked at her new fur-color, she sat where she was, unable to move except to say, "Well, how -nice- of you to give me a mud bath that was -quite- unnecessary." Her tone shook with anger and sarcasm as she glowered darkly at her new companion.

Ochoco sighed and smiled uncomfortably, carefully untangling himself from the disgruntled filly. "I really am sorry. I didn't expect the hill to be muddy," he apologized again, uncertain that he would enjoy this encounter very much. What he could tell, under the mess he made, this filly was creamy-yellow and had a horn much like his. Maybe he wasn't so different at all, as two of the five others he'd met outside of his family had horns just like him. Of course, she didn't have a tail like Spike's so she was more like him than even the odd, fanged stallion.

She snorted as lady-like as possible. "You better be sorry, I don't like mud!" She stood and glanced at herself, feeling absolutely sorry that she had lost her beautiful fur to the icky mud. "Who are you anyway? It's impolite to get a lady dirty!" From the sound of the voice, it was a boy, and that made her frown all the more. Boys were supposed to be gentlemen and kind to ladies (though her brothers were the exceptions). Sighing, she flicked an ear topped with mud as she eyed the other colt dourly. "All right, I'll forgive you if you take me to a place where I wash this stuff off. It's not something I'd like to have everywhere on me, you know." Her off-hand comment had a hint of sarcasm to it, but otherwise she seemed perfectly at ease.

Ochoco sighed again and looked off. Of course he knew a place, but that would mean spending more time with this filly and she was really starting to make the poor boy regret chasing the butterfly this morning. "I am sorry, but it was an accident..." he said and turned away, in the direction of the pool he knew of, where he first encountered his friend Wica. Oh, but he hoped she wasn't there right then. "I know a place, if you'll follow me. It isn't far," he explained, looking at her over his shoulder, his eyes such a pale blue-white that they could have been blind, but the alertness within said otherwise. He started walking again, assuming she'd follow him. "I'm Ochoco, son of Lonatos and Jeevita, by the way," he added a little offhandedly. He normally didn't use his heritage in introduction, finding it too formal, but he figured that formality would be a better idea in this case than informalities. Somehow he figured that she would appreciate it more.

So it was a colt. No matter, he was taking her somewhere she could get cleaned up. Sniffing sourly, she followed him as he led her away. "You're forgiven," she said. "Thank you, but please be careful next time!" she continued, trying to shake the mud off her as they walked. It was beginning to dry up and cake into pieces her, and she was eager to get it washed away. Her soft golden eyes met his for a moment as he introduced himself, and she gasped softly.
"So you're like me..." she spoke with wonder and awe in her voice. "I'm Khepri, daughter of Shimshek and Taiyaung. It's nice to meet you, Ochoco. I've heard stories about your parents! Mama's always telling me about the gemstone Soquili." In a way, she wished she had realized sooner she had met another "royal" foal like her, but she blamed it on the mud avalanche that had blocked her view and caused rage to build up inside her.
"Why are you here in this area, though? What were you doing, chasing butterflies?" she added, somewhat sarcastic and just for conversation. "Chasing butterflies tends to cause accidents, you know. They're dangerous!" Khepri hoped the walk to the water place Ochoco knew wasn't long! Her mother would notice if she went missing for too long.

Ochoco sighed and shook his head. He didn't think he would ever come to understand this new "friend". She seemed way to high-mannered.
"Indeed. I'm not as sparkly as my sister or father, but I look most like our mother," he explained as he led her around another hill and came upon the pool where he had met Wica. Thankfully, she wasn't there.
"Here it is. Will this suit?" he asked, stepping into the water and washing the mud from his legs and face. It wasn't too deep, but enough to come up to their bellies in the deepest part. He folded his legs beneath him and lowered his head so that his mane could swish through the water, revealing the brilliant orange courtesy of his father, contrasting well with the turquoise of his coat from his mother.

Finally! Some water! Her companion had already stepped into the water to wash off, and so she did the same and followed him in eagerly. She glanced over at her new "friend" and beheld the foal once more, doubt entering her mind as she reviewed their earlier conversation.
She gasped softly to herself as the foal next to her began to show up in a nice, bright color of... blue? Blinking, she washed herself as thoroughly (and as quickly) as possible. She didn't answer him for a time, merely concentrated on her 'bath' as she made sure horn glistened to its normal shine and her hooves as well.
She made sure her furcoat was soft as could be and had its soft glow that made her stand out so well. Finally satisfied and happy, she turned to the colt--now that she could see he was a boy--and promptly thanked him. "Thank you so much! What a relief! I hate, hate, hate mud. It's so icky and gooey and nasty."
She cocked her head at him curiously, wondering why he seemed somewhat sullen. She wasn't used to a dull personality (rather, gentle personality) so it seemed to her he was sad. "Oh, I see," she commented off-handedly. "I look more like my father than my mother, but my brothers don't look much like either of my parents. None of us really do; we're all a unique mix!" she exclaimed happily.
"We're the most beautiful set of children in the world!" she informed Ochoco with a solemn look. "Oh, I'm sure you and your siblings look just as pretty, but not as pretty as my family!" She pranced about for a minute, showing herself off.

Ochoco looked at her as if she had grown a second horn or something. Most beautiful children in the world? "Don't you think that's a little... vain or something? My sister and mother are really beautiful, and you haven't even met them... Or all of the horses in the world, so how can you say you and your family are the most beautiful?" he asked, watching her prance around as if she were on display. Which she was most definitely not, at least in his opinion. You needed to be on display FOR someone to be on display, and he wasn't here to admire Khepri.
He took that moment after his little speech to step from the water and shake droplets from his turquoise-and-gold-veined coat, his mane, akin to the orange of his sister's coat, falling scampishly over his crystal-colored right eye.
