Kate woke up with a throbbing the morning after her encounter with Light. Her memory of the event was somewhat hazy, and in the white sun of the morning, it almost seemed like it had been a dream. She rubbed her temples, man, did she miss aspirin at the moment.
Kara had already seemed to have left for the day. Kate picked up her things and started walking, and walking, and next thing she knew, she was by the lagoon again. She looked in her bag. There wasn't much for the taking. "Man, I really need to hit the food jackpot today, or Kara and I'll be eating SANDwiches for dinner tonight." Kate snorted, "Oh wow, too bad no was around for that one. I slay myself!"
Despite the now fading headache, Kate felt more energy than she had felt in weeks. "Well, a little swim won't hurt. Need to keep mah fish-bits healthy!" and with that, she jumped into the water.

Hailey woke up yesterday morning due to hunger. only to end up seeing another new person and nearly freaking them out. Today...she was awoken by a huge sound..the sound of something hitting the water. Her yes snapped open, fear taking over...she thought there was a predator about.
Her eyes scanned the area only to see...a fin? And a human sized body? 'Did someone change? She thought, coming closer only to see teh wet suit....and nearly resisted the urge to pull her hair out.
Kate! Kate was near her! ' If I get away now..I can minimize contact between us...' She thought to herself. From the last meeting with the strange girl--now strange from that fin growing on her--Hailey didn't want a repeat of what happened last time.

As Kate swam deeper into the water it cooled and soothed her, somehow even more than before. For some reason, she suddenly had the urge to get as far from the surface — as far from the air — as possible. And so, she plunged deeper and deeper down, nearly to the bottom of the lagoon. She was dazzled by the fish and sea-life she saw darting around.
And then she saw an unusually large fish. Blue and bright yellow, scales shimmering. She realized it was not simply a fish, but it was . . . Hailey!
(Crap! What do I do? Should I run away? Has she seen me? Maybe she hates me less than before? Maybe she hates me MORE than before?)
Kate darted around looking for a place to take cover to no avail, so she sprang upwards to the surface, thought it was pretty obvious she was seen. They were only a few feet from each other.

Hailey remained submerged, she didn't know if she wanted to swim away or confront the girl and give her a piece of her mind. After all, she was still a bit ticked off from the last encoutner with her. 'But she's changed now...and maybe that change made her crazier...' The thought swam around in her head before she decided to make her first move.
The fish girl swam a feet away, making the distance between them greater. Once she was statisfy with the distance, Hailey swam up to speak to Kate.
"What are you doing here?" She asked, still angry from Kate touching her tail. 'There's the ocean shore, why can't she go there to keep her skin wet?'

Kate whimpered. She was still angry at her. Kate couldn't run away now, even though she wanted to so badly. But she wasn't running from things anymore, she was facing up to her life and her problems.
Taking a deep breath, she calmly responded, "Hailey. I'm sorry I was so rude to you when we first met. I was freaked by the whole situation, but I shouldn't have treated you the way I did. Obviously, I've been going through my own changes since I came here," she motioned to her own aquatic adaptations, "and I understand how you feel, and how totally insensitive I was. Please, I don't want to be enemies. I'm sorry."

Hailey kept her mouth shut as Kate gave her an apology. So the girl wasn't as crazy as she thought...'Maybe she isn't so bad after all...but what if she relapses? What if she decides her own changes aren't good enough--wait, slow down...take it back to square one..' The thought swam through her mind as she over looked Kate.
She did apology...and if she tried doing that again, Hailey cuold all ways have Wesley shock her...or get that tattoo of her head.
Wait, backup...tattoo? When was Kate able to get a Harry Potter ensignia like thing on her forehead?
"I'll think over about accepting your apology...if you can tell me what that thing on your forehead is. Did you engrave your skull or something?"

Kate blinked and gave Hailey a confused glance, "Forehead? What thing on my forehead?"
Then Kate's mind immediately went back to the night before, and her encounter with light. Though the details were still hazy, parts of it were coming back to her. The burning on her forehead, and . . . "it did say something about a seal," she spoke thought out loud, and then turned to Hailey, "could you, um, could you kind of tell me what it looks like?"

Judging by Kate's glance at her, Hailey guessed the girl didn't know she had a mark on her. Very odd, considering one has to be awake to get something engraved on their skull. Then again the island they were on wasn't normal. 'Don't tell me there's a tribe of island villagers who use engrave you with a mark or two...' Hailey's ear twitched a little when the surfer said something about an 'it'.
What it was she talking about? Surely not the same 'it' Hailey saw when she was done transforming...into a very weird mermaid. Confusion passed through her eyes, did Kate really want her to describe what on her forehead?
"Uh..its not a lightening bolt scar like Harry Potter? I dunno how you would describe it, can't you see it in your reflection?"

"Oh! Yeah. I forgot about that." Kate glanced down at the surface of the water. She traced the curves of the blue seal with her her large flipper-like finger. "Wow! That looks sooo beautiful!" The teen giggled happily. "Okay, now it's all starting to come back to me."

Maybe who ever engraved that thing into Kate's forehead had scooped out a part of her brain. She was actually happy for the mark? 'Yeah, still the same...better go now before she tries to do something on me...' Just as the thought was complete a tiny voice spoke in the back of Hailey's mind, urging her to stay. It was the same voice that kept telling her to accept what she was, how beautiful she had became and sometimes told her what to eat...
So far that voice was only good for dinning options, aside from everything else Hailey prefered to keep that voice locked away.
"Yeah...good for you...I'm just going to go now and leave you to your new mark and all.." Her voice held some nervousness there, hoping Kate wouldn't involve her with anything that caused such a huge beauty mark.

"Wait! Please, don't go. I want to talk to you. for at least a month I've kept hearing about you from everyone, 'Hailey-this and Hailey-that', but this is the first time I've actually seen you." Kate was desperate for her to stay. "So, please, just stay for a bit. I have so many questions I want to ask you.

Hailey shot Kate a confused look, this wasn't the first time she actually saw her. Didn't their first encounter count? Besides what could she possibly want to ask her that she couldn't ask the others? 'Be nice...she's trying...so should you..'/i] Damn her good conscious! Breathing out a sigh, the fish girl decided she would stay...for now.
"Okay, okay I'll stay....what's your first question?" She asked, removing a strand of wet hair away from the side of her face.

Good! Kate got her to stay. Except she didn't actually have any questions! Well, she did, but they were all the sort of questions about Hailey's fishiness, the kind that would likely make her upset.
Kate realized that the next words to come out of her mouth would be pivotal. (Choose wisely . . . don't screw it up!)
"Okay! Well, a ton of stuff has been happening to me since I came here. I was really just wondering if we could talk and share experiences. I've been wondering how you've been doing. Where have you been . . . living? Isn't it dangerous out there?"

So Kate wanted to do a little bit of 'bonding' did she? Hailey supposed she could tell the girl what has been going on...she seemed genuinely interested. 'Plus she'll have to learn soon or later...'
"I guess we can do that..." She paused, splashing some water on her face. the last thing she would need was a dry face. "I've been living in the lagoon, its quiet safe actually. So far I haven't come across anything that would want me as a snack...though sleeping on sandy flooring isn't the best thing for your back..." 'Speaking of which, I need to find Leonard....and possibly start paying him for his services...'
"Where was I? And as far as living, in the lagoon...though sometimes when the tide is low I can go out to sea but its too big...and who knows what's there..." She sighed, it sucked being at the bottom of the food chain.

"So you can breath water now? That must be AMAZING. Do your eyes work better underwater now too?" Like gushing over a celebrity crush, Kate nearly swooned at the thought of being a permanent resident of the water. "I can hardly wait until I grow my tail and have to live in the water all the time. Oh, Hailey, it's going to be so wonderful for all of us once we change completely!" The seal on Kate's forehead briefly glowed as she expressed that last sentiment, as if it were expressing some kind of affirmation for the girl's words.
