It hadn't taken long for Alcine to move to the Abandoned Base in favor of the jungle: as Aiden had said, it was far nicer than simply camping in the woods, and with water nearby and a nice beach to sunbathe, her instincts didn't seem to mind, either. She couldn't fix her height and she couldn't fix her lisp, but all in all, things were going up. She had almost decided that she could handle looking like this for the rest of her life: after all, to her knowledge, it's not like anyone had gotten worse.

On this particular day, Alcine had begun her walk from the base to the lagoon, her long, thin walking stick in hand as she awkwardly stepped down the beaten path, her gaze to her feet to make sure that she didn't trip. Even crouched over, she was taller than most, and a rather terrifying sight to the eye as she cautiously made one twisted movement after the next, her tail acting as a rudder-like balance behind her. She supposed that her only saving grace was that many of the others looked just as bad as her, so they really had no reason to be afraid, except for maybe her little vampire fangs. But even then, there was no reason to worry: she hadn't bitten anyone...yet.

A weak yawn escaped Ian as he stumbled down the side of a path, ignoring the aches and pains in his fin-like feet. He missed shoes. But unfortuantely, his feet couldn't fit into his sneakers comfortably anymore, or at all, for that matter. But all in all, he didn't really noticed the deformities as much as he had the first few months of it. Except for the fact that he hadn't gotten a decent night's sleep in weeks due to the fact that the bulb thing on his forehead had the lovely tendency of ligthing up the moment he tried to go to sleep. Given, it was a bit of an advantage in the dark, when the probability of him falling off of something from notseeing it, was extremely high due to his terrible luck. But the lack of sleep was visible upon his face from the dark circles underneath his eyes, which, with his pale skin, honestly could have made him look like a raccoon if there were alittle darker, and bigger.

But he didn't care. He didn't care until he was misfortuned enough to have to see his reflection.

Ian shivered, and uncomfortable sensation running down his spine. He paused, forcing himself to stop along the path as bit down on his lip, glancing around for sight of something that caused the uncomfortable, anxious feeling he had yet to see.

After a second or two, instantly he moved without thinking, and dodged behind a tree.

The slight hold on his lip with his teeth quickly turned violent, and a small trickle of blood dotted his lower lip as he starred in horror at the figure approaching. He flinched, curling back a bit as his tail took the tendency of wrapping itself around the treetrunk out of anxiousness. He started to move to untwine it to flee from whomever the person was, but suddenly, as the features became visible, a gasp caught itself in his throat.

"Al-Alcine?" He said, thinking that it was just a solitary whisper to himself, and was completely unaware to the fact that he had said it loud enough to be heard from a distance away.

The longer Alcine thought about things, the better they seemed to appear: at least she was thinner, and with her legs as long as they were, she had to look like some scaly super-model. There, that was a positive. Not to mention, she'd not done homework in months, nor had she had really any responsibilities, except to people that genuinely cared about her. And on top of that, she even had a furry 'older brother' of sorts, who was going to take care of her. All of these things were good, and none of them would have happened if she hadn't been stranded.

And yet, everything seemed unimportant the moment she heard his voice.

She turned slowly, a dumbfounded expression forming on her face as her fanged mouth fell open. It couldn't be: everything was going so well, and she hadn't had to go through any confrontation, and she was going to have a good rest of her deformed life--

"...Hi, Eeyan," Alcine whispered, stepping away in embarassment. No, this wasn't happening. Why did he have to see her like this?! A part of her registered that he had changed as well, but it took a moment for her to leave his gaze and look up and down the rest of his body. She thought it was probably her, but had he gotten shorter? "Ah...Ah look reelly bad, dun Ah?" The more words she said, the faster her voice got, coupled with the increase in her frantic tone. "A-ah had uh reelly bad change, and Ah know Ah look sssssssssssssss..." She stopped in mid hiss to cover her mouth, leaning against a tree as she bit her lip to keep from crying.

"Ah know Ah look sssssssscarrey, Eeyan. Ah did'n wahnt yuu to ssssssssssee mee lyke thisssssss...Ah'm sssssssssso sssssssorrey..."

At first, the urge to run to avoid Alcine was extremely strong in Ian, but he resisted-his urge to see her was greater.

It was impossible to keep from starring- wasn't she shorter than him, a while ago? And now she was...Taller than him by how much?! Ian flinched. Well, wasn't this akward. He bit down on his lip, trying as hard as he could to keep from puncturing the skin, as he normally did.

"You had a bad change?" Ian murmurred, the sarcasm that he had almost forgotten about reviving itself in his tone. He grumbled underneath his breath, and folded his arms across the rings circling his torso, which had more than obviously tripled in number. "At least you didn't have bone protrusions grow out of your bloody torso." Ian said in a frustrated tone, annoyed that he had to remember the worst part of the change.

But, the frustration in his voice and facial expression faded as he noticed Alcine's distress. His heart melted, and he looked at her, ignoring the fact that his heart seemed to skip a beat and become faster. "You aren't scary," Ian said, frowning as he furrowed his eyebrows.

Alcine put her head to her arms to hide her face as Ian went off in his anger, squinting her eyes shut in the hopes that he would just go away. She didn't want to argue about this, and she most certainly didn't want to go into further detail. The images of her nightmare swelled up under her consciousness, and her tail twitched as she retched, a whimper rising up in place of bile. As much as she wanted to see him, she knew she couldn't. She was dangerous now. He would be better off if he never even knew her.

She tried to move to look up at him with her teary blue eyes, but in the action, she lost her balance, and crumbled to the ground, landing on her knees to spare the tail pain. Even if she refused to admit it was hers, she could still recognize that when you sat on it, it hurt. A lot. From here, she looked up at him, resisting the urge to outstretch her arms and pull him into an embrace. She couldn't risk that sort of danger. Not with him.

"Eeyan, yuu dun undurssssssssstand...it getsssssssssss wurssssssssssse. Ah'll get wursssssssssssse." Subconsciously, she put a hand to her lips, fingers grazing over her fangs. "Ah--Ah dun want tuu hurt yuu."

Light was absentmindedly drifting through the jungle as it did so often between encounters with the islanders or it’s sessions of observing them from afar. Between that, its thoughts clouded somewhat, today was no exception. But they did focus towards a certain train of though.

The snake, Alcine. She could be perfect for what it had in mind now. Kate had already received the mark, and Hailey and turned to its side. But it needed more of the islanders to understand.

It approached the base where Alcine was. Intend on turning her as well, by force if necessary.

A frown formed across Ian's lips as he watched Alcine; a sharp pain struck him hard in the chest. Why was she so upset? Yeah, he was pretty upset with his change and all, but this? Wasn't this overdoing it?

He grimaced, at first thinking that she was faking it to get his attention, but as the seconds drew by, his anger melted away, and his stern eyes lightened.

"Y-you won't hurt me," Ian murmured, but could not deny the jolt of fear that shot through his chest for some reason at the sight of her fangs. Instinct forced him to take a step back, but he fought it, and instead, quickly moved towards Alcine before she could react (at least when she was sitting down she wasn't towering above him). "What are you talking about? That's ridiculous, Alcine. You'll be fine-We'll be fine, okay? You can't just avoid me--"The boy paused, hesitation suddenly catching his words in his throat,"I mean..You're the only reason I haven't gone crazy and killed myself, okay?" At this, he laughed weakly, to make it seem like a joke.

But it wasn't.

Ian sighed, and slid to the ground in front of her, still feeling rather self-conscious, but forced himself to discard it for now. With a short movement, he got closer to Alcine, and cupped her cheek within his webbed hand, hoping she wouldn't notice the sliminess of it, and gently kissed her on the cheek.

As Ian moved closer, Alcine shied away, her eyes closing to avoid his gaze. Instead, she only saw blood, and imagined she could hear screams among the darkness, the acrid smell filling the air...This was all that was left for Ian if he came near her, and she hissed as he sat down beside her, wringing her hair with webbed hands as she curled away. She wondered if she opened her eyes right now, if they would be like Breena's again, and maybe that if nothing else would scare him away, for his own good--

And yet, any such thoughts dribbled from her existence the moment he touched her cheek, and she forced herself to look up at him with wide, confused eyes, thankfully rounded pupils and all. She froze as he came closer, until the moment of realization came as his lips grazed against her cheek. This had gone way too deep for her to get out of. And suddenly, Alcine wondered if that was such a bad thing.

With her awkward arms, she reached up and wrapped him up in an embrace, leaning forward to hide her face in the nape of his neck, shaking her head. This was wrong; Ian would get hurt staying with her, and she knew she wouldn't be able to live with herself if that happened. And all the same, she never wanted to leave. Why couldn't her mind just take one side or the other?!

Sighing, she looked up from her hug, hesitating for a moment. Was she supposed to kiss him back, now? A blush crept across her face, and if her hands hadn't been interlaced in a hug, they would have gone to hide her fangs. Could she kiss him, knowing that danger? Slowly, she inched closer to his cheek, but she stopped once again as she froze up, looking out into the woods where she'd seen movement.

Her eyes caught the glimpse of some sort of mask, and her body stiffened. Finding herself only capable of a frightened whisper, she moved her lips up to Ian's ear as if to share a secret and murmured, "...Wuht issssssssssss that?"

Light observed them both for a moment, the sea horse and snake embracing each other. Humans had such odd ways of showing affection, latching on to each other and placing their mouths on each other. It would expect such behaviour of a predator capturing its prey and consuming it.

“…Alcine” it paused before speaking her name as it noticed Alcine’s eyes looking back at it, it disliked referring to the new members of it’s species by their human names, they where so inelegant by comparison. “Leave him…come with us, we have much to teach you”

A weak grin formed across Ian's face-one that seemed almost impossible to bare and difficult to, since he hadn't found a single reason to smile about in months. But it wasn't strained in a bad way--it was a sign of hope, or just an attempt at hoping for better things.

Which for Ian,
was a rather difficult task in itself.

The boy's fin-like ears twitched and moved slightly a few seconds before Alcine stopped, and turned her attention towards something he hadn't noticed before--A figure with a mask of some sort had appeared before them. And he didn't notice this how?

Oh, well, the kissing part might have distracted him a bit.

Caught off-guard when the strange figure spoke, a shot of fear burned through the small ounce of hope that had dared to emerge in his heart, and instantly he was on his feet between the girl and the..thing.

"What the hell? Are you kidding me?" Ian growled between clenched teeth, his anger overpowering the fear in him. "Who are you to come barging in and start telling her what to do?"

Alcine was unsure if she should be embarrassed at being caught kissing with the boy or frightened at the strange specter. Not surprisingly, the fear won out, and as Ian stood she shied away from the thing, wobbling to her own unstable feet.

"Dun pissssssssss it off, Eeyan...Ah theenk it'ssssssss uh part uf thee ayland," she whispered, pointing to one of her scaled hands to make a point. If that thing was what was causing their changes, then she didn't want to give it a reason to jump start her own.

That's right, young one, embrace the Wave. We can teach you much, we can make you beautiful as you were meant to be...beautiful and powerful...Embrace us. Keep your Breena hidden to the other, but embrace us.

Alcine shuddered, and her tail shook as shivers ran down her spine. Whatever this thing was, it was associated with the voice in her head, and she suddenly wanted no part of it, regardless of the cost.

"Ah wun't go! Wuht arr yuu?"

Light looked at the seahorse, only briefly. (Not that it would have been very noticeable even if had stared at him) It labelled him as not important, for the moment. His own transformation was drawing near, he could send him on his way if need be.

“Light” it answered, very unhelpfully at Ian’s growl towards it.

“Come with us…Alcine…it’s for the better”

In the vast complex though patterns of lights mind, there was laughter.

A frown formed across Ian's face; Was this thing ignoring him? Oh how numerous the derogatory words were beginning to spin through his mind. He would kick this thing's a** if he had to..Well, not that Ian was so positive that he'd be able to--he just wasn't sure if his punch would go right through him or not.

"Shut up, you freak," Ian growled again, oblivious to Alcine's warning. He doubted that this thing could do anything to him, anyhow. "She said she isn't going with you, got it?"
PostPosted: Fri Dec 28, 2007 2:45 pm

The more Alcine stared at the thing, the more Breena urged her forward, the less she found she was in control of herself. Without thinking, she stepped forward, and had she not bumped into Ian (who was short enough that he'd dropped from her line of sight), she would have found herself walking straight into the clutches of the thing. As it was, she held onto Ian from his shoulder as she looked at the thing in fear.

"Whare wuld yuu tayke mee? Ah can't jussssssst leeve," she said, looking down to Ian with a sad stare. Seeds of doubt came in her argument to stay; maybe she was being offered a chance at freedom, maybe the things it would teach her would help the others...

...Maybe she could find a way to change them back.

Breena hissed at the idea, but Alcine's eyes lit up with a dim hope, and she looked back to Light, suddenly deciding that she would go. And yet, to look into those blank sockets sent fear through her once again, and she stepped away, shaking her head. "Ah can't leeve. Ah wun't leeve...Naht unlesssssss yuu fix usssss...naht unlesssss yuu mayke ussssss rhyght."

It was a compromise. Little did she know how subjective 'right' was.

Laughter, more laughter. These thoughts hadn’t been this strong in lights mind for some time, quite a long time. Light couldn’t keep them at bay for very long, or at all in fact. Light soon lost it’s will to stay awake, its consciousness faded. Replaced by Dark. Its cloak disintegrated, falling over revealing a dark black cloak beneath. Light mask now replace by a red mask, boasting four eye sockets ad no mouth.

Dark shot at glance at the seahorse, to start the tune in his head that would beckon him to the Lagoons waters. And more important, leave them and Alcine be without interruptions. “Go”

“Come with us Alcine” It’s voice remained the same, thought now it sounded more forceful and threatening. Light may have been unwilling to control Alcine’s body for her, but Dark gladly would.
