What has lately been almost all the fishers talk about in the chats, is the fact that a lot of fair top fishers get banned for "botting" while they are completely innocent.

I thought we need a thread to talk about all this.

I'm sorry I can't make a better starting post, I just found out that a person I've sold fish to through trades has been innocently banned for "hacking" which might mean I'm next in line.

I agree, it's causing chaos among the fishers, gaia's gone nazi on us D:
Makin it less and less fun here... (in general gaia, I dun't mean the guild xp ) not only do we have real botters and hacker to worry about but the Mods too, and that's just not right

Something must be done. This question needs to reach the mods somehow, and I have a plan.

Once in a while there's a "ask the mod" thread in the Community Discussion forum. Usually tuesdays my time, or mondays american time.

I'm thinking we need to formulate a short background info and some questions to ask a mod at that time.

What questions do we want them to answer?

I have some questions now that I want answered by the mods, tell me what you think:

(background info about how people get wrongfully banned)
This has as an effect that the users knowing about it are terrified of trading, using the marketplace, receiving donations and accepting gifts. The people not knowing about it are getting banned every day. This last month it seems to have reached a new high record of people wrongfully banned, at least in the fishing community.
So results right now is that trophy fishers and other people fishing a lot dare not sell their fish on the market, leaving the market much clearer for the actual botters.

1. Where do you draw the line of who's banned and who's not? Do we have to fear buying or selling fair in the marketplace? Accepting donations? Should we turn off gifts through the gift-giving system? Turn off all trades? How many steps from the original botter do you ban? Also, do you act the same if it is an account that, for example, hosts a lotto or a giveaway?

2. Are you considering changing the way of handling botted gold/items to prevent innocent people from getting banned? For exemple, reverse the trades so that the users end up with their original items and then delete the gold from the botting source. If so, do you plan to un-ban the innocent users as soon as the new method is in use?

3. Do you plan to inform the users of Gaia that they can get banned for just trading, buying, selling and accepting donations?

4. If you are to continue banning innocent users the same way you have, will there be mods assigned to check the authenticity of items and gold in trades and such? Because if not, there will be one of two options happening. The first being that all users trading and vending eventually get banned, the second being that the gaia economy breaks down. And if it does, no-one will want to donate to gaia or buy gaia cash for vending, but only for their own uses, which will be a lot less than now.

From my point of view, there are two options to avoid the breakdown of the Gaian economy. You can either stop banning innocent users, or inform us about this practice and give us the means to distinguish between botted and unbotted items and gold.

True story...

The day after OnionKing was banned, I signed on as usual, and instead of taking me to the Gaia opening screen, I was instead on the 'Terms of Service' page!

Has anyone else had something like that happen?? Is this some kind of 'warning'?? gonk
