This needed to be answered. Scyeth, being the trouble-maker that he is, happened to be a terrible gossip. Not that he would ever admit it, not even to avoid pain of death, but when the opportunity arose, the blond would be the first to sneak around and glean tasty rumors. Were they true? Not his concern. Would he spread them? Oh yes, but very subtly. He was sneaky, this one. He'd just drop little hints and leave the other person's imagination to do the rest. It worked out quite well at home and he rarely got blamed for fabricating the tall tales.

But when Scyeth heard the rumor about Dr. Kenth and a student? OHOHOHO! This was entirely to good to pass up! Scyeth spent the next few days compiling a list and crossing people off (all the teachers were out of the question; it was a student). He was pretty sure Weiyuan wasn't the type to cheat on his boyfriend (though he couldn't be entirely sure, the brown-haired boy had this weird flirty streak Scyeth couldn't explain), so that left the only other two students really with the doctor on the China mission. One was expelled, so he was ruled out instantly. That left one.

...RuiZhi?

Scyeth was shocked. Crumpling up the piece of paper, he tossed it into the garbage with his good hand (one arm was still in sling thanks to his recent thanks to his recent trip down the stairs) and leapt to his feet. He grabbed his skateboard and whipped the door open. The door slammed behind him and he was flying down the hall in under three seconds, racing towards the class he knew his roommate was getting out of any minute now.

He arrived just in time. Weaving his way through the other boys, he quickly spotted RuiZhi and skated right up to the boy, nearly hitting his shins with the edge of the boy. "We need to talk, Muffin" he declared, grabbing the other boy's arm firmly. He jerked, dragging the smaller boy with him. This was very, very serious.

The boy in question had been innocently leaving one of his grueling studies when the attack happened. One moment, RuiZhi was moving blithely amongst the others, notebook in the crook of his arm; the next, his shins were in danger of a being smacked from underneath him, his room mate dragging him by his free arm like he had something important to say...and it was that last part that was confusing the Chinese youth.

"Wh-what--hey! Scyeth!" RuiZhi had to flail a little to keep from tripping over his own two feet and Scyeth's board, a feat that left him all but tap dancing to hold his balance. He yanked his arm back, not exactly rough in his motion, but very indignant. "What's wrong?" he asked, his expression one of concern, annoyance and obvious bafflement. "Are you okay?"

Scyeth was so focused on the task at hand, it hardly occurred to him his little friend would have been caught off guard. It's true, Scyeth rarely had a profound thought and even more unwonted that thought actually made it past his lips in a serious manner. It was like a mental block, or something, that being serious thing. (That wasn't really true, though. It was all these kids here; he was used to having a bunch of adults around all the time.)

"Nothing's wrong," he snapped, glancing around to make sure all the other boys were heading off wherever they were needed. This was his conversation, thank you very much! "I just need to talk to you about stuff." Haha. If only RuiZhi knew what that entailed, he would be heading for the hills. Scyeth grabbed at his arm again, pushing him against the nearest wall. He didn't need his little Muffin worming away now that he'd caught him. "You're friends with Dr. Kenth, right?"

"Stuff?" was the bewildered reply. The boy actually squeaked a little as he was thrust against the nearest wall, maintaining his neutral expression until the next words fell from his room mate's mouth. "You need to talk about...wait, what?" RuiZhi blinked his large and confused eyes at Scyeth, trying to make sense of the onslaught. The older boy had all but caused immediate chaos in the hallway to yank him out of the safety of his class, tossing him against a wall and...

...asking about Doctor Kenth?

"What are you getting at?" RuiZhi stared at the taller boy, his words guarded. Knowing his room mate, whatever he was going to say next was bound for trouble, and he would not allow the doctor's good name to be smeared. He lifted his chin a little, pushing his glasses back up his nose while he waited for some type of explanation.

Scyeth's frowned deepened, suspicions growing ever stronger as RuiZhi continued to get defensive. It never occurred to the blond that perhaps his roommate was just wary because Scy attacked him out of no where. Naw. That couldn't have a thing to do with it, he was clearly trying to hide something. Scyeth chewed on his lower lip and relented slightly, at least giving the Chinese boy his space bubble back. Scaring him probably wasn't the best way to get the answers.

"Nothing. I just want to know if you're friends with him." Scyeth shrugged nonchalantly, still trying to force down the frayed nerves and short-fused temper. Did RuiZhi even know about the rumor? It would be best if he didn't; if he knew what the Australian was after, he might make this much harder than it actually had to be. Which would suck. Scyeth wasn't a fan of a large amount of work, really.

"So. Are you?"
PostPosted: Wed Nov 28, 2007 5:20 pm

"No," came the stiff reply, "I would not consider the doctor and I friends." RuiZhi had no idea what Scyeth was getting at, which was just as well, since his words were very likely not helping the situation in the least. "What does it matter if we are? Did something happen to him?" The boy's concern for the good man's reptuation suddenly turned in a different direction; was the doctor hurt? Gone? Something else entirely?

The youth couldn't help the brief expression of worry, hoping that Kenth was all right. What would he do if the doctor was gone...? RuiZhi knew he'd continue his studies, but it alarmed him to think that the man who initially inspired him to come to this place would suddenly...not be here! He didn't voice his thoughts, not thinking to share such things with Scyeth at the moment, worrying himself up a storm.

Ah, this was not where he wanted to be going. Not at all. Everyone just needed to calm down (except maybe him, as he is perfect). Except, before he had time to react to his own thoughts, RuiZhi had spun it in another direction entirely. "Well of course he's okay!" Scyeth huffed. He was getting love letters, for the gods' sakes! Who wouldn't be okay with secret love letters? (Scy would adore having a secret admirer...or even an open one, thank you very much. Nothing proves one is good-looking like a nice little fan club.)

"Dr. Kenth is fine. I'm just trying to figure something else." It was time for a different approach. "See, someone's sending him love letters and everyone says it's a student." He shrugged. "And I wanted to be the one who finds it out, but I guess I can let you in on it if you help." Now it seemed like Scyeth wouldn't suspect RuiZhi at all. "Not your brother, surely?" He had a boyfriend, right? Isn't that what he told Scyeth, except in many, many more words?

Love letters? Why did Scyeth care if the doctor was receiving proclamations of love? No doubt he deserved it! Or was Scyeth interested in the doctor more than he was letting on...? RuiZhi stared at his room mate, about to ask the question when the older boy mentioned his elder brother. Instead of words, laughter came forth, shaking his head with a huge grin. Weiyuan and Doctor Kenth? Oh, his sister would be fit to be tied!

"No, Doctor Kenth is not Weiyuan's type," he agreed amicably, "and Weiyuan is hardly the good doctor's type either, I'd imagine. Although I'm not sure he really has a type." RuiZhi shrugged with a smile, feeling a little more at ease, though no less confused by Scyeth's IMPENDING DOOM attitude towards the letters. It was funny and sweet, in a very deranged type of way.

This was not making Scyeth feel any better. How many other students could it be, if not Weiyuan? The only other ones on the trip were RuiZhi and Expelled-boy, yes? "So who do you think it is?" Scyeth pressed, eyes never leaving RuiZhi. If he started to try and lie, Scyeth would catch him. (Just one of the many talents the blond had...acquired? Yeah, let's go with that. One of the many talents he'd acquired over the years.) "If it's not Weiyuan. It can't be the boy that got expelled. And really, weren't they the only ones with Dr. Kenth on that...expedition?"

He should stop talking. He'd set his trap, let's see how RuiZhi danced around this one. (Hopefully he didn't realize just how much Scyeth knew in the process. It might be a little...difficult trying to explain how he came about all this knowledge, you know? He'd probably downright refuse.
PostPosted: Wed Dec 05, 2007 10:27 am

"Well," RuiZhi started, rubbing his chin in thought. His naivity was loud and clear, as he completely missed Scyeth's burning gaze, not at all expecting a trap. "A lot of us were in the China incident, if you mean that. Lots of teachers, and helpers, and students." He held out a hand, counting on his fingers, "Weiyuan and Rylenn were with...Heru Araquenosse and Professor Larine. Elijah and I were with Mr. Fang and Miss Irame. Farlest and Kah'mesh were with Doctor Kenth and my sister."

He turned his critical brown eyes onto the blue-eyed youth. "Shouldn't you be asking her?" The boy muttered to himself, barely audible, "No, not her, she's too straight forward for a letter." Again, he rubbed his chin, thoughtful. "I don't really know! Weiyuan and I came here to follow his foot steps. How intruiging!"

The boy had no idea that he very likely was not clearing his name.

Scyeth blinked. Farlest and Kah'mesh? Had he investigated them yet? Well...no...but. They weren't it. He had checked around and there was nothing about them that raised any red flags. But RuiZhi? See, it was that, that! He wanted to follow in Dr. Kenth's footsteps! Hero worship! Oh gods, it was far worse than the blond imagined. "So. You really admire him, huh?" Scyeth ground out, gritting his teeth to keep from scowling. Remember Scyeth. Keep it light and friendly.

But how could he in the face of this!? AUGH. Scyeth frowned deeper, shifting his gaze to his skateboard. He'd need a new tactic, wouldn't he? He needed to get RuiZhi to slip up, because his roommate was clearly not going to just give it up. Huffing a sigh, he looked back up. "Well. That does leave you, you know." Nothing like being blunt. Maybe he'd get flustered and say something incriminating!
PostPosted: Wed Dec 05, 2007 10:50 am

"Of course I admire him! He's saved my homeland twice. He cured a malicious disease in one day, what's not to--"

RuiZhi snapped his mouth shut, staring at Scyeth. Did his room mate just imply that he sent the letter? After a few moment of stunned silence, the boy cracked a grin, and started to laugh. It wasn't aimed at Scyeth, not at all, more like the idea of him, RuiZhi, fawning over Kenth in a romantic way. The man's personality was as likeable as an icicle, and twice as lethal. At least, that's what his sister had said, and yet she still managed. The boy was not as optimistic on such things, it would seem.

"Doctor Kenth and I have never met formally," he said after his laughter had subsided into a faint chuckle. "I don't even think he knows my name."

Scyeth scowled. Hero worship, definitely. This was going to be a tough one. But why was RuiZhi laughing? The Australian grumbled to himself, fighting the urge to look affronted. "So?" he grunted. "That doesn't mean you couldn't send him a letter." Which was perfectly true. He knew plenty of boys who'd fallen head-over-heels for some girl they'd said 'hi' to once or twice and that was the extent of it. He was sure the same concept could apply here.

Besides, RuiZhi just seemed like the letter-writing type, didn't he? Yes. Very much so. But why was this so hard!? No, calm down Scyeth. The goal was to break RuiZhi down, not himself. Breath in, breath out. Damnit. This looked a lot easier on TV...

The youth sighed with a faint smile. "My written English is very bad, Scyeth. If it were me, I would have written in Chinese, so no one but the doctor could understand." RuiZhi wasn't sure if he was comforting the other boy or not, a little confused about the whole exchange. Really, it seemed Scyeth was getting really worked up, and over what? A letter?

"Hey, are you okay?" he asked with quiet concern, arching his brows over his gentle eyes. "Don't stress yourself so much. It's not good for your arm." RuiZhi smiled, still somewhat baffled but more bemused than anything. The Chinese boy was not one to hide his emotions or have any secrets; Scyeth had not yet had the pleasure of seeing him flustered yet, apparently, as RuiZhi's currently calm attitude was all the truth he had.

Scyeth stopped then, blinking at RuiZhi. He was, for lack of better word, dumbfounded. "...oh," he said very slowly, blinking again. That made...a lot of sense, actually. The blond grunted, on the verge of flushing. "Sorry," he muttered. Now he felt really stupid for accusing his poor little Muffin like that. He huffed a sigh. "Just a rumor." Maybe he should just let it drop? Yeah. Good idea.

"Me?" He blinked, shrugged, and immediately regretted the decision. "I'm alright." Besides the throbbing shoulder pain and his boggled mind, that was. He sighed. "Let's go back to our room," he suggested. Before anyone took notice of them. "You can have a look at my arm...Muffin."
