The characteristics of a Slytherin student are usually well known throughout the wizarding world. Your typical Slytherin should be cunning, ambitious, determined and resourceful. They are also known to have a certain disregard for rules. Many Slytherins are traditionalists when it comes to blood heritage, and prefer marrying among other wizarding families in hopes to keep the blood line pure. This varies depending on the Slytherin.

Slytherins are often viewed as evil people. This is not necessarily true. Although they are the most susceptible out of all the Hogwarts houses, it does not necessarily mean all Slytherins are tempted by the Dark Arts. ( See Horace Slughorn.)

Slytherin's colors are green and silver. Its also represented by a serpent, for Salazar Slytherin was a Parselmouth. The house ghost is the Bloody Baron.

Salazar Slytherin is one of the four founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and founder of the Slytherin house. Noted legilimens and parselmouth, Slytherin is known for his favoritism for pureblooded witches and wizards. Slytherin wished after a time to be more selective in admissions to Hogwarts, but not restricted to only his own house; he used blood purity as a factor of selecting students since the school's inception. Shortly after a dispute with the other three founders, Slytherin left Hogwarts for good. According to ancient legends, Slytherin was responsible for the construction of the Chamber of Secrets, the home of a magically-created basilisk.

It might not look like much, but it's home to us Slytherins. Contrary to its' looks, the Slytherin Common Room happens to be very comfy once we get the fireplace going. According to Rowling, Slytherin corresponds roughly to the element of water. The Slytherin dormitories and Common Room are reached through a bare stone wall in the dungeons. A short description of our beloved Common Room would be a long, low underground room (probably under the Hogwarts lake, thus Slytherin house's affiliation with water) with rough stone walls and round greenish lamps hanging from the ceiling.

Behold our lovely Christmas tree! We decided to use numerous silver ornaments to further make the green of the spruce pop out. It's simply beautiful, isn't it? We here at in Slytherin are a proud bunch, so naturally we use alot of green and silver in our decorating. Soon, there will be numerous little gifts under the tree. Oh, I can't wait for the holidays!
