The other day, I was asked a very potent, powerful question that really made me stop, think, and marvel. I think it's a question that has great meaning especially to those of us old enough to remember what could be considered recent history.
That question is this:
Do you ever get the feeling that we're living in very a very important time in history?
When it was asked, it was in the context of the Catholic Church, referring to all of the monumental changes that are happening currently in the Church - actually, they're less changes and more undoing of changes, changes that should never have been made but were due to over-interpretation of Vatican II.
But even outside of that context, I think the question can still have intense meaning in every other aspect of our world today.
Terrorism, and the rise of the Radical Muslim Regime in the Middle East are having profound effects all across the world. It's leading to prejudice against arab people and muslims, as well as the government's hyper-sensitivity to political correctness that's leading to government spending on foot-washing stations in airports and colleges. The same government that demanded a eccumenical chapel on a college campus remove a cross from the room (a cross that was already temporary and only brought out when a group of Christians were using the chapel).
The Global Warming scam that's spreading into every aspect of our lives, from fastfood consumption to vehicle manufacture, a scam spurned on by a spiteful Europe, who despises the United States for its fantastic economy - an economy the press would like you to think is failing. The report on Global Warming was written by politicians, and published before scientific study was finished, and it was said bluntly but with beautiful words that if the research should contradict the report, then the research must be altered. Any scientist who refutes the findings on Global Warming are promptly fired by whomever they happen to work for. Any mention to a GW advocate of the fact that this same temperature rise has happened countless times in the past, just not in our generation, is quickly rebuttled with "Yeah, but". I'm not against looking into ethanol, hydrogen, or solar energy to power our world, but Global Warming is leading to Europe pressuring the US into signing a Carbon Tax, a tax that says we have to pay for however much carbon is released into the atmosphere by our deported industry. It's a tax that would destroy our economy, and send the US into a depression likely far worse than the one before WWII.
Then there's the NHS, or the National Healthcare System, that the Democrats want so badly to put into place. It sounds like a great idea. Free health care for all, what could be better, right? Well, it's not free. It's as free as Social Security and pension. By saying that, I mean a certain percentage of your paycheck would go towards that 'Free Health Care'. That means a dramatic rise in taxes. Already people can't pay for healthcare while they're working - that is, people in low-wage positions. So many people are caught between paying for healthcare or paying for food. What happens when that paycheck is taxed yet again? Already, a good 25% or more of our paychecks are taxed away. With an NHS, that tax would go up to 40%. That means someone making $400 a week would only get $240 after taxes, while right now they'd get $300. Where would that sixty dollars normally go? Food, clothes, gas, that sort of thing. As my father says, our current healthcare situation is most definitely not perfect. But the NHS, or 'Hillary Care', is most certainly not the answer.
A lot is happening these days. What do you think is something dramatic and astounding that's happening today, or has happened recently, that will likely change the world as we know it?
