Because my mind won't leave me alone until everyone else gets the fun information on what they are all about and that they're not pure copy creatures. Guide Natural Form Neutral Form Transformation Magic/bBreath Weapons Blood Language Survival Rage Age of Maturity Reproduction Death Growth Cycle Chart. Dragon Folk are a type of dragons. They have breath weapons, other elemental based weapons and magical abilities. They have two forms, a semi-human “neutral” form and their draconic “natural” form. Also they have various draconic abilities such as blood language, and survival rage.

Natural Form In natural state Dragon Folk are quadruped reptilian dragons with a set of wings located behind their shoulders. They come in a variety of dark “jewel” and metallic color pigmentation to their scaling. Each dragon displays a set(s) of horns located on the head, blades (tail/body) and spines (tail/body). Their eyes are often shades of gold but there are variants in jewel/metallic colors. Regarding size a male will range from fifty to sixty feet tall from paws to top of the head (excluding horns), and females will range from forty to fifty feet tall from paws to top of the head (excluding horns). It is in their natural form that they can make use of their breath weapons and magical abilities. When in this form they are semi-cold blooded, leaning more toward cold blooded (opposite of neutral form). In this manner any body heat they have at the time of transformation, can sustain them in cold environments for a span of time before they must warm their bodies again via environment thermal means.

Neutral Form A Dragon Folk’s neutral form is what they consider a perfect balance of humanoid and draconic traits that allow for efficiency in this particular form. The perfect balance is considered to be a biped humanoid body including feet, hands and facial structure paired with the retention of draconic horns, wings, and tail (with any blades or spines on the tail). In this form, hair and skin colors are determined from combination of scale pigment and environment exposure (i.e. if a dragon is dark scaled they are likely to have dark hair/skin, also if they spend a lot of time in the sun, their skin takes on tanner qualities even if they are lighter scale colored). In neutral form, they are tall often between 6’0” and 8’0” with lean muscled builds and broader shoulders (even females). While in this form, they have random patches of scaling over their skin. They also can control the degree of their transformation (after age of mastery) to take on more draconic aspects if they wish. This form is also semi-cold blooded leaning toward more warm-blooded (opposite of natural form). No use of magics (save transformation) or breath weapons in this form. An exception to the magic rule however is found only in gold and silver scaled dragons, seeing as they are the most powerful in the species and can perform such things. However it is more of an automatic response over a manual one.

Transformation Transformation is the changing of a Dragon Folk between their natural form and neutral form. This technique is magic based and occurs in a fashion as follows: A mist like expulsion of magic is released to alter the current form of the individual to the opposite form. When changing from neutral to natural any articles of clothing/weapons/accessories that a Dragon Folk has on their person is “stored” in the mist that garners their transformation. When they change back to neutral from natural, those articles are returned in kind as they were before. Any damage done to the body of a dragon in natural form, will indeed shred and tear clothing that appears back on the neutral form. At ten years old, a Dragon Folk will have gained mastery over their transformation ability. Before this time there is a period of no transformation, semi-transformation and random transformation. From the time a Dragon Folk Hatches they stay in natural for three years. After three years the ability to start shifting in possible. Children will have incomplete semi-transformation leaning more toward draconic looks. These transformations can be at random more than at control (i.e. triggered by a sneeze, being startled/frightened). After ten, they are free to completely control transformation between natural and neutral forms as well as specific body modification transformation (i.e. dragon paws instead of hands).

Magics/Breath Weapons Magics and Breath Weapons utilized by Dragon Folk are elemental in nature. These elements are: Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Light, Shadow, and Metal. Among this main set are also sub-sets that fall into respective categories (i.e. Fire/Heat/lava, Water/Frost/, Light/Electricity, Earth/Wood/poisons, Metal/acids, Shadow/ etc.). A dragon folk either has one or up to two elemental affinities. Dragon Folk may also possess magics that are not element based or are learned through arduous study and practice. Such things include mental abilities, divination, life and death magics, etc. The more ancient dragons also know the ability to pluck off scales, crush them, and with a few words turn them into little miniature ghost like replicas. They are often used for communication. The skill is all but dead as it is often not used or talked about and the incantation words for such a spell are very protected.

Blood Language Dragon Folk have what is known as a “blood language”. Their pure draconic blood gives them an instinctual knowledge (much like their magic) to understand draconic tongue and respond in kind when the awareness of this knowledge and ability surfaces. Complete understanding is limited by age. This is the only language that is not "learned". All Dragon Folk must learn to "speak" in their own animalistic language as well as speak in common tongue or other plane languages.

Survival Rage This is an instinctual trigger when a Dragon Folk is in their neutral form and can not for some reason shift to their natural form in any manner. In this state of being their pupils turn to slit reptilian fashion to increase their vision more. Fingernails harden and edges sharpen in talon like means. Canines grow in length and sharpen to mock fangs. Strength, speed, and pain tolerance also increase. In this state they are almost uncontrollable by others around them who may be trying to calmy subdue them. Even friends can be see as the enemy if they approach in perceived hostile manner. If the particular individual is a gold or silver dragon, the potential to also trigger and use their neutral state powers increases ten fold.

Age of Maturity The age of maturity for a Dragon Folk is when they are able to produce offspring of their own either by harboring it themselves or mate detection. For males it is the ability to detect the pheromones of a female dragon that is in heat. For a female it is the production of these pheromones and their first heat (they thus enter into other heats at periodic times that is specific to each individual). For both genders this occurs between the ages of 400 – 500 and is ongoing for each Dragon Folk’s life.

Reproduction Conception can occur in any form (neutral/natural). A female dragon will internally carry her young for three months and is able to change between forms. At the period of four – nine months she is forced to change to and remain in her natural form as egg shells develop around her young and the offspring continue to grow. At ten months the eggs are laid and kept in a heated nest to be watched over for another three months before they hatch at the end of month twelve since the beginning of the process. Eggs are typically 2’0” in height from top to bottom and 3’0” in circumference. They are hard shelled with a slightly leathery feel to their exteriors. They are kept in upright fashion, in carefully monitored heated conditions. Any tipping/temperature failure/cracks in the egg can result in growth stunting of the dragon within if not death.

Death Dragon Folk are not immortal, merely very long lived creatures. One who takes care of themselves and avoids danger or injury that may cause their life to end can live well up to ten thousand years if not beyond that. When a Dragon Folk does reach the end of their life, if they are in nuetral form their bodies revert back to their original forms. Thus that is how it is with any case of their deaths.
