Pale wings spread out wide, feathers gleaming and almost whistling in the wind. With paws tucked close, the male angelic swooped nearer to the treetops. Embry's silver eyes scanned the ground below, ignoring the gray strands of his hair crossing his view. He couldn't remember how or when, but him and the captain...er, Sai, had split ways. To find their comrades, that was their urgent goal now. And still, Embry found himself sighing to himself.
Once the trees cleared, the angelic made for landing. Two swoops and he was planted on the ground, wings closing against his back. Dark tails twitched behind him, and without a sound, he paced himself toward the meadow.

Not too far away, among a clump of dried, dead grasses... was one little, lonely angelic kit. Her fur black and splotched with magenta. Nearby, there were eggshells of a similar color. However, the little kit trembled... both from fright and cold. She was born alone in this world... a world that was new to her in more ways than one. There was no mother there to care for her, and she whimpered lightly from hunger. She would die just after being born, if she was left this way.

Dried grass of Autumn crunched under the male's paws. No sight of allies or enemies. Embry sighed once more, hearted ears lowering to his scalp. Still nothing worth reporting. Swerving to head back towards the woods, the angelic paused. What was that splotch of black? Curious and hesitant, Embry padded closer to inspect it. Egg shells? Blinking, he finally realized just what he was staring at. A mess of feathers and fur, shining by the light of a halo. A...kit. Ears lifted high in confusion and Embry crouched. No adults, by sight or smell. Crawling forward, he stopped just feet from the young one.

The little kit blinked wide red eyes up at Embry as he crawled towards her. Ears lowered... not really sure what to make of him. Was he... a parent or what? Again she whimpered lightly... her nose twictching just before the little kit sneezed.. and sneezed again... then a third time. Curling up tightly, she shivered once more. She was just a baby after all.. and didn't have any means to really communicate yet.

The male simply watched the other with a placid face. He had never grown around other young kitsus, let alone interact with one. Wings jolted in startlement as the kit sneezed in a fit. Was it already ill? With his habitual sigh, Embry stood and turned away. Ears lay pinned back as he managed some steps of distance. If nature wanted it then who was he to interfere?
Still, socked paws halted in their march. He just couldn't pull through with it; it wasn't in his nature. Frowning to himself, he curved back to where the other layed. Now curled in a feeble ball. Resting with tails curled about his flanks, Embry pulled the kit into his arms and began licking clean her pelt.

The little kit hardly seemed to notice as Embry started to walk away, being curled up and trying to stay warm. However... when he pulled her to him and started cleaning her fur, she snuggled against him. Longing for warmth and comfort... wanting what any baby wants, to be loved. Again she whimpered, although feeling safer now. Another sneeze, and the kit rubbed at her nose with a paw with a little sniffle.

Fur bristled slightly as the kit nuzzled closer. Simply put, Embry was still a male and held no maturnal drives. The only thing holding him near was his conscience and his own sensitive nature. No way could he ever turn away from one so young and defenseless. Embry glanced over the kit once more, taking in the details of the pelt. She looked so familiar...but from where? His memory had become fuzzy ever since surviving the Lazuli blast. He shrugged at the matter, knowing if it was important enough that it would come to him. "You must be really hungry, huh?" He didn't expect a reply, but at the same time could use one to know what to feed a newborn.

Poor Embry.. and it wasn't like the tiny kit could really help him out either. She didn't know what he said, and didn't know that he lacked in parental experience... or that he wasn't her parent at all. He was here, and an adult, and seemingly wanted to take care of her. She couldn't answer his question, but her stomach chose that convenient time to growl. Yes she was hungry, starving infact... newborn kits needed to be fed quite often after all and she would only get weaker until she was nurished. Ears turned forward at the growling of the stomach, red eyes blinking... where had that noise come from? She started to whimper a little more insistantly.. her tummy hurts! She needs food!

The adult angelic blinked when the tiny tummy grumbled. As if it was the first time he had ever heard it before. Striped face glanced about the deserted meadow, almost hopeful that someone would come claiming they were the parent. No one. His eyes turned down again when the light life in his lap began whimpering. Oh no...no, no. His frame quivered at his lack of knowledge on this situation. "Okay..alright." Voice tried to stay calm and comforting. Embry rose to his feet with tails sweeping behind him.
Now how to do this. Gently, the male leaned down and pinched his jaw around the kit's furry neck. There we go. Lifting the small weight, he padded slowly to the treeline. Just there and in sight were small red berries. Those should be juicy enough to suckle on, right? With warm breath encasing the kit, he leaned her forward to the fruit for her own investigating and judging.

When she was picked up, the kit tucked her feet and curled her tails instinctively, allowing her to be carried wherever Embry took her. She was quiet, up until he stopped at a bush. She blinked at the leaves and berries cluelessly. She then squirmed and whined a little more. She didn't know what berries were or anything like that... didn't know they were food... besides.. they wouldn't sustain her long even if she did eat them, but unfortuately poor Embry didn't know that. Oh dear.
All she could do was complain as her hunger grew, which she did.

Well? Ears teetered to the sides, Embry not able to see the kit's reactions or expressions. But he could sure hear her complaints. A whine of his own escaped the adult, and he could feel his legs giving a tremor. Stay calm, just think things through. Placing the baby on the ground and sitting back, he plucked a berry and placed it in his own mouth. See? Edible. Another berry was plucked and held at the soft muzzle of the bobtailed baby. Hopefully she wasn't a fussy angelic. If it could atleast calm her tummy, for now, that would be fine. If not...he'd have to seek out Sai. And fast.

Unfortunately.. berries are not something a baby needs... and she just stared at the offered berry. She needs soft, easily digestable foods... and that doesn't include plant matter. The look and smell of it did not equate food to her, even though she saw him eat one. Turning away from the offered berry, the kit flops on her belly and sighs... with another grumble of her belly, followed by yet another sneeze. Oh dear... it seems that Embry has quite a problem on his paws... this certainly wasn't any good.

He could only slump his shoulders when the kit rejected the food, and he tossed the small object. Wings spread and adjusted before folding back in as a way to ease himself. One slender front paw, though shaking, reached out to scooch the kit nearer for warmth. The kit's life literally laid in his hands to determine. There was no other foods he could think of in this season for a kitsu so young. Yes, he did know that milk was the common ingredient to a baby's diet. And that's when he realized it; headquarters had a room built to hold foods. Of all kinds.
With some lifted resolve and determination the adult was able to smile to the kit. Despite her frequent sneezes, which he wasn't comfortable with at all. The faster he moved the better. He nuzzled the kit to let her better know his scent and for a brief comfort. Then she was placed back in his jaws, and with a trotting start he leapt into the air and took flight. Praying was all he could do in hopes that Sai would cross his path.

The former leader glided through the sky effortlessly as violet eyes gazed down below. She was searching for any allies or enemies alike, just as Embry was told to do. But so far all her searching turned up fruitless. All she saw was meadows and various plant-life. There was the occasional normal Kitsu here and there, but nothing more beyond that.
She sighed to herself lightly at the thought, continually pondering where some of her comrades may have turned up. All she could do was pray they were safe. But even that thought wasn't comforting at all. She should at least meet up with the one comrade she found. It would give her slight comfort and hope to see his soft face once more.
Pushing down on the air, she flapped her wings repeatedly to gain more height. She would head towards the headquarters where she and Embry would meet up. It was about that time to meet up, hopefully he had more luck than she did.

The kit was atleast happier with the warmth, snuggling her little body against Embry again. Another sneeze, and she shook her head and blinked her eyes... nose scrunching up slightly. Those sneezes were not pleasant and she didn't like them at all.
When the little one was lifted off the ground again, she didn't complain, curling up once more. However, when they launched into the air, her eyes went wide as the ground fell away. At first she was startled... amazed... and then she giggled in delight despite her hunger and the cold air blowing against her.
