Kitrio knew he had until nightfall before Azure would worry and look for him. He certainly didn't resent her worrying, but at times it was a bit... restricting. Checking the sun he knew that gave him more than half the day to do as he wished, so long as he was not seen. That too was restricting, but according to Azure's friend there were few on the island of Meith Foraois with love of harpies. Except his own hind, he supposed.
Which made him wonder... where were his own kind? No one Azure asked seemed to know, but they had to be somewhere. That blasted woman had found him as an egg (and likely saved his life, but what did that matter) which meant there had been parents. So unless his parents had been the last of the harpie race, he should be able to find his kind.
His jog slowed to a walk, his legs and feet were sore, he wasn't meant for so much ground time. As his mind wandered he lost track of where he was and didn't notice the leafy blanket fading away until he hit his foot on a rock. There was a great amount of wing flailing as he hopped on one foot and rubbed at one taloned toe. Then he got a look at his surroundings.
The trees here were different, darker and completely bare. They were spaced out slightly more and a harsh wind had cleared away leaves and twigs to leave bare earth and stone underneath. He sat down to further inspect his foot. Some of his nail had flaked away and it throbbed terribly but at least it wasn't bleeding.
"Enough of this!" he shouted to the trees and rocks. "I won't be land bound any longer!" He launched himself to the lowest branch, nearly loosing his balance when he tried grabbing with only one foot so as to not further hurt his injured one. The trees clawed at him as he climbed and jumped his way up, tangling hair and ruffling feathers. He looked a right mess when he broke free enough to spread his wings and begin pumping them into the air. His flight was unsteady at first, he rarely got to stretch his wings like this. And the wind! He had come quite close to the mountains and the wind here was sharper, colder, and more fierce. However he gave a whoop of delight and pressed on, riding the wind where he could and pushing for more speed! What a thrill!

Koda shook the snow from her feathers then took flight. She was leading a small patrol though the mountains as part of one of the matriarch's 'training' sessions. She didn't look back to see if the others had followed her. She'd heard the rustling of feathers and the sweeping of wings and she could feel the faint warmth of the others flying close though the cold.
Her sharp eyes flicked over the ground, a copse of trees, a bare field, a cave. She folded her wings tight against her body and dove, ever listening for sound of the others behind her. She set a guard at the mouth of the cave before sending the others to investigate.
Kendra had sent this group out to find caves that could be converted easily into sister colonies. Kendra's own colony was not yet large enough to expand but the knowledge was valuable. They'd barely spent one minute in the cave before the sentry called back to her, "Koda! There's fire in the sky!" ((If only so not everyone needs to think of their own excuse to be out in that particular region of the mountains... though if anyone does have their own plan that's welcome too. x3!))

((Awesome idea! I couldn't come up with a reason for Nynora since I figure I'll get her into her first post-egg RP. But dinner's calling, be back later.))

Nynora fluffed out her feathers for warmth while she waited for Koda to dispense the duties - who would gather kindling, who would further explore the cave, and so on. She didn't really care what she did so long as she had some company, someone to talk to, while doing it. She had just been eying some of the others to see if there was anyone she recognized when the sentry called back about what she saw.
"Hm, fire? Well, maybe it'll be warmer there," she said with a grin while stretching her wings upward. Anything for a laugh or chuckle, there had to be someone here with a sense of humor.

And, as was typical of any expedition involving Koda, Makani and Iris had been "persuaded" to tag along by the ever persistant Kendra in order to "help supervise". So the male of the pair grouchily shuffled his way to the front of the cave to investigate this "fire", sparing Nynora an unamused glance for her joke.
"That's not fire," he corrected, squinting out into the flurries of white. "In fact, from what I can see, it looks like one of us. And judging by the colors," he spared Iris a cautious glance, "it's a male. Though that's of course impossible to tell for certain."
"Let me see!" Iris demanded, shouldering her way through the crowd of now-gasping females to gain a position next to Makani. Leaning forward over the ledge, she too squinted, then glanced back, her gaze searching for the matriarch's daughter. "Looks like he's right Koda. If that's a harpy, those are some very bright feathers." Eagerly, she turned back, preparing her wings for flight. If it was a male, they couldn't just let him pass. He should be an honored guest, and she would be happy to welcome him. Iris just hoped that this stranger would be less irritating than Makani.

Koda allowed Iris to take off but quickly spread her wings to prevent any of the others from following. "One male flying alone is strange at best, we should let Iris approach him alone. I'd almost be willing to bet it's a female, though." She tossed Makani a glare.

Maeve was farther twards the back of the small group when they where set about too do small tasks. She tended too be a bit on the quite side. She had almost laughed when one of the sentry had said their was fire in the sky. Yeah right fire in the sky, you could really laugh at some of the things these fools could come up with. she thought too herself. But she would have too say, she did wanted too see what had caused the sentry too call this lone harpy, fire in the sky. She had moved her way too the front of the group to stand right behind Koda's wing trying too get a glance.

Aqua eyes spotted the firery male from her spot from, below the group of other harpies. She blinked a few times. Knowing this meant that Iris would probably get him to stay and she would stand no chance. Shrugging inwardly she relaized, right now she didn't really care. Her darker brown feathers at the ends of her wings and tail moved slightly as she flapped her tan brown wings. Gracefully flying towards the male which she knew the whole group was flying to.
Once she her mention of the fire in teh sky she let out a sigh, she couldn't believe someone just said that. Shaking her head ehr brown hair blew in a tangle looking way because of her motion and that of the wind's blow. Returning her gaze to the male she wondered what would happen next.

Yakira flew with the wind always keeping an eye on the land below to watch the stream, which from her point of view looked like a tiny crack in a landscape painting. 'Follow the stream said the syrin.' She repeated for what seemed the hundreth time in her mind. After meeting him she had learned more about her own kind and of the world...and with his directions had finally prepared enough to go fly from her caves.
She had remembered spotting more of her own kind, but had avoided being spotted by them and had circled around hoping they'd be gone. But she sighed, 'They're still there.' She had always lived in a nice secluded area and had even raised herself since she was just a child. So even though she was curious about the others...she didn't know whether to approach or not.
To bad she wasn't paying attention to what was ahead of her. "Oh!" With out even knowing it she had flown right beside of another harpy, a fire colored one...it seemed to be a male as well. She looked at him, "Sorry! Got distracted for a moment there." She sighed mentally kicking herself for not hiding in the clouds."Are you with them? But that's a silly question...you probably are, aren't you?" She chirped and indicated to the other group of harpies with a nod of her head.

Faria had been on her own since her home colony had been decimated in a naga attack. She had spotted the other colony some time ago and had been observing them. Faria knew that she stood a better chance of surviving in a colony. She’d even have a better chance of having a brood of chicks, depending on the state and age of the males, if there were any. Faria had been trying to make due on her own. She had, at one point, tried to find some other lone harpies to create a new colony all together, but no such luck. She’d settle for being under another. It simply felt nice to be able to see such a grouping of other harpies after such a span alone.
Faria looked skyward at the mention of 'fire in the sky'. It looked to be one of her kind. A brightly colored harpy. ‘A male,’ chimed the phase in her mind. She was perched against the trunk of an old tree on one of its thick branches. She visibly winced upon seeing the collision between what was most definitely a female and the earthy brown and fiery gold colored male.
She hoped that he was uninjured and her mind began to race on how to introduce herself to the group. It appeared to be mostly teenagers. One seemed to be the lead, perhaps the daughter of the colony leader. There were a few adults with very bright plumage which threw her for a loop at first but she was no longer bothered by them.

Kitrio's initial exhilaration at flying freely had now worn away and he realized how much effort it was taking to fly through the flurries. He tried to gain higher altitude, the wind kept trying to buffet him back into the trees from which he came. Struggling as he was, he did not see the first female to exit the caves along the cliff. He hadn't even noticed there were caves yet, only trees and very, very large rocks. Very large. He was scanning the rock (mountain) for a place to set down onto when a voice broke his concentration.
"Ah!" In shock Kitrio flailed in the air, the wind taking over his direction and further upsetting his feathers. He felt one wing hit up against something, further sending him into a panic. Ground already! It took a moment for him to realize that he hadn't crashed to the ground and that he was, in fact, relatively safe. Yakira's question was lost to Kitrio's ears in his scramble to stay in the sky and in his shock at seeing her. He almost forgot to flap until he started dipping low in the sky. He stared at her openly, amazed and yes, still shocked.
"You're... like me!" He gave a crow of delight and spun rather gracelessly in the air. It was then he saw the reds and yellows standing out against the dull not-so-distant rock to see another. "Others," he said softly. "I'm not alone!"

"Hallo there!" Iris chimed as she winged her way forward, giving Yakira a warning look. She didn't know the strange female, which was odd, but she wasn't about to let this new male out of the reach of her talons. The colony needed him, and Kendra would be exceedingly pleased if they returned with such a useful new member.
Carefully, she winged backwards, avoiding the colision with an easy grace to hover just a few feet from the young male. "We saw you flying from the ledge," the brightly colored female explained. "We were wondering if you'd like to take shelter with us for the evening. The snow is likely to get heavier tonight, and we'd hate for you to be stuck out in the cold."
"What's the matter woman?", Makani demanded, giving Koda his usual baleful stare. "Do you think I'm blind? Not that it wouldn't be a mercy, being that I wouldn't have to see you every day." Ruffling his feathers, the male hmphed. Bloody Matriarch and her bloody daughter were going to make him lose his feathers one day.

"Yes, I'm a harpy like you." Replied Yakira with a grin. So this male wasn't with the other harpies? That was interesting...she glanced at him and then to the group at the caves. Yup, just as she suspected the male’s bright fiery feathers had been spotted and they had sent out someone to meet him.
Her whole frame shivered as she hovered there standing around the two. ‘Figures…my luck that’d it start snowing just now.’ She grimaced at the other harpy’s offer to the male. ‘Take shelter so that they can hook their talons in you, most likely.’ Ignoring the brightly colored female harpy’s warning look, she flew around to the male’s side to whisper, “It’d might just be best to take up on their offer for it is starting to snow heavily…but be careful or you might never return home once they have you in their midst.”
Yakira gracefully flew backwards to lock gazes with Iris, “May I ask if that invitation goes for me as well? It is getting rather hard for flying in this weather.” She knew that she was pushing her luck, but what other choice did she have besides the horrible thought of flying on in such weather?

Faria glanced skyward and groaned at the sight of fluffy clusters of white powdery snow descending from the heavens. It'd most certainly be getting much colder after the sun set and she did not fancy having to deal with that all on her own. She fluffed up her feathers slightly to help trap warm air close to her body as she sighed. "Well, it's now or never," she whispered to herself. She dipped low and leaned forward bringing her wings down to catch her. She cautiously flew toward the group low in the air.
She hovered above the ground for a moment before landing with a soft shuffling her her talons on the cold ground. Faria made sure her body language and demeanor was as unthreatening as possible, but kept her head up in alert but wary confidence. "Excuse me, I'd like to speak with the lead on this excursion." Her tone was half inquiring and half stating. She wouldn't demand anything of them, not in this first interaction. She tossed some of her dark hair away from her face, as the wind had blown a few strands of her dark hair across her face.

And Iris met Yakira's gaze levely, her face slipping into a cold smile. "Now why would you want to come with me? After all, we might just get you in our midst and never let you go. Then again," and now she manuevered herself easily between Yakira and Kitrio, "we wouldn't really want to hold on to something such as you." Without further interest in the rogue female, the harpy shifted so that Yakira was now facing nothing more than her brilliantly colored back. The smile that had before been so cold warmed considerabley for the male. "My name is Iris," she offered pleasantly, giving him a polite nod. "My companions and I are from the Mountain colony nearby. Kendra, The Matriarch, would bid you a very warm welcome if you'd like to return with us for a little while. We could shelter you until better weather allows you passage home." And perhaps convince him to stay, or at least come back instead of staying gone.
