It was late at night and Unyezi was having a bit of trouble sleeping. He was traveling in a group, and it made him feel more pressured to find the right place for them all to stay. As King, it was his job to make sure they were all safe and peaceful- and that was proving to be harder than expected, and all because of a little herb that was looped into a necklace that he wore. He was awake partially because of pressure-induced insomnia, but also because tonight was the night of the full moon- he was hoping his luck would improve if he went out for the night, hoping that he'd find exactly what he was looking for. The bitter lion did not want to think about how he'd face his elder brother if his little search party was first the find a new home.

It was with all of this in mind that the young king wandered away. They were in the right kind of area, they had a wonderful and clear view of the night sky. It was nice, but it wasn't perfect. If he couldn't discover some hidden side of where they were, Unyezi would have to decide which way they should go next.

Ang padded across the strange lands, heading back to his group. He had a tendency to meander off in the daytime, searching the nearby lands, and return at night. It wasn't everyday one got to wander. His dual-toned eyes scanned the ground- as they did every night- in search of that one little plant. Alas, not a sign. The dark lion sighed and plopped his butt into the grass, fairly tired from the day. He'd covered a lot of rough terrain, really. There had been huge herds he'd had to skirt, and he'd had to run past them. He could've kept going without a rest, but Ang wanted to take the chance while he had it.

A purple ear flicked when he heard a sound. Quickly, the large male swiveled, on his paws in an instant, ready to face whatever there might be. He was surprised to see the figure of the king. Angani smiled awkwardly and quickly gave a dip of his head. "You caught me off-guard there, Unyezi," he said honestly, bringing his blue-and-green pair of eyes to meet Yezi's brown. "Why are you out so late?" He asked, sure that Yezi would bounce the question back at him.

Unyezi felt wide awake and alert, though he couldn't be sure how long it would last. He kept his eyes open for any signs of the herb, and any signs of strangers. The dark did Unyezi no favors in his effort to recognize the figure that was walking nearby, though the size, shape and movements of the dark lion was enough to tell the king exactly who it was. Since Ang often wandered off in the light and came back late in the night, Unyezi was not too surprised to see him.

"Likely the same reason you're still out this late, Angani," he replied with a small smile, and glanced up at the moon, "I'm hoping tonight might be luckier, but not yet.."

"Ah, yes..." Angani said almost disappointedly, but the tone didn't remain in his voice at all. "Well, we'll find some soon enough. The more we wander, the closer we get to finding some of that elusive herb." Sometimes he knew that his eternally optimistic outlook on things irritated others, he always felt good about it. "I'm sure we'll bump into some of it soon enough. You're probably right, too." He added, turning his large head skyward. "Full moon tonight should certainly help. If not with luck, then with helping your eyes to find it." He turned his blue-and-green gaze to his king. "Don't you agree?" He hoped he'd instill some hope into the heart of the king.

"No better time to hunt than with the Great Lion's help," he stated simply, looking from the moon to Angani with a smile. The purple lion spoke the truth, if the Great Lion did not help them then the extra would not hurt their search. If they looked long enough, they were bound to find what they were looking for. Their home could be a certain distance from the supply, but not such a distance from home that they were now.

"Our luck has to improve sometime," he said, then added with a slight laugh, "I'd hate to have Njiru's party be the ones to find it, though." Perhaps it was true, but he knew if they found it he would be just as grateful as if they found it. They needed a home, and silly rivalry wasn't going to prevent that. As long as he meant it only as a joke, things were all well.

Angani chuckled at Yezi's response. He'd never had a sibling, so he didn't fully understand sibling rivalry, but from what he'd seen in his life it was a serious business. Though, he could catch a bit of joking in the male's voice. "I'm sure we'll be the ones to come across it." Angani said with a smile and a chuckle. "I'll make sure of that!" Of course, there was no way anyone could guarantee that they would find the elusive plant, but Ang's somehow-eternal positive mood always told him things such as that.

"I sure am getting tired of moving around, though," Angani said honestly. He liked being in one place with his simple job- watch the rogue, make sure he/she doesn't run away. Something about it made him feel highly significant to the Pride, and without the herb, he couldn't do his job. He knew he was useful, but still... He missed his work. All the more reason to look more closely for that plant!

"With you on my team, of course, we're unstoppable," Unyezi agreed with a chuckle. It was good to be optimistic about it, and this was better than being in a sour mood or low spirits. After all, that wasn't going to get them anywhere. However, Unyezi did believe he had the most devoted searchers in his little group. Of course, Njiru had taken slaves with him- they could be threatened into taking the search very seriously..

"That's exactly why we need to find a place to settle," the king agreed with a sad sigh. It would be sad to leave the area he'd grown up in, where the pride had lived for so long.. but it wasn't safe, and the herb was all but gone from there.. no, they had to find the perfect place. But once they found the herb, of course, Unyezi would have to go around and make sure they were not already on a pride's territory and make sure neighbouring prides weren't hostile to newcomers.

"We all want to just live peacefully again," he said, "It's been awhile, but it will be worth it when we get it."

Ang had a deep laugh at the king's compliment. "That we are, unstoppable!" He rather enjoyed spending time with Unyezi, he liked his brother too, but knew there was some tension in the family. Being royalty seemed to do that.

"Ah, imagine Unyezi..." He said, momentarily plopping down on his back, gazing skyward into the blessed moon. "A fresh start... no more wars, just a peaceful life under the moon." Angani's green and blue eyes twinkled like the stars before he rolled back to his feet. "We'll be able to carry out life like normal again... Someday soon. On top of that, a new place! It's kind of exciting, don't you think? New views, new lions," Sometimes Angani could become as excited as a cub going on his first hunt, now was one of those times.

"I've seen a lot, but... I still want to see more. Moving to a new land is just what I feel like I need anyway." Always turning the negative into something positive.

It was nice to be talking to someone that could be so optimistic. Angani did not feel quite the strain that Unyezi felt, but then he did not have a whole pride depending on him and competition from someone convinced he would be better at his job. Unyezi sighed again when Angani started describing exactly what they were looking for, exactly what they would be getting as soon as they found the right place.

"And hopefully that is exactly what we'll find," he agreed, sounding a tad more cheerful than before, "Travel would be much more enjoyable for me if it did not have quite this purpose. It should benefit us when we find our home, though, for we'll know what's around."

Angani nodded before meandering a little way away, staring down at the ground; getting back to the task at hand. Herb... He had a vague idea of what it looked like, good enough to spot it anyway. He'd seen it many a-time in the homelands, after all! The dark lion was accustomed to seeing it, not using it. However... if there was something that looked similar... he'd be completely unable to differentiate it from the real thing.

He searched in silence for a short while, not going far from Unyezi. "AH!!" Angani cried at one point, leaping on the spot. His green-marked paws were on both sides of this plant... Could it be the herb? It was kinda hard to see exactly in the lighting, despite his fairly decent night vision. "Unyezi! Look! I might be onto something here?" He asked, looking up reluctantly from the little green thing to find his king's form. He feared losing it, but with the thing between his paws, he was able to find it again. "I could be wrong, but this looks a lot like it!" Yes, the male was wrong, but he didn't know that yet.

Unyezi stayed quiet now, walking along quietly and only pausing when Angani suddenly strayed from the path they seemed to be following before he'd gone off. When he cried out, Unyezi jogged over to the guard to see what exactly he was going on about- it sounded important, and the king's heart skipped a beat. Had they found it? He looked up at the full moon appreciatively, momentarily allowing his hopes to rise.

Positioning himself so that he could get a good look at the plan that Angani was pointing out. It looked about right, from a distance- but the King had to be sure, there were reasons he'd been taught a bit about it- and of course given pieces of it for his necklace. Unyezi leaned down to sniff at the plant, noticing that it wasn't quite the same sharp smell he expected. Lifting his head again, he did his best to get his nose near the pendant at his neck.

"I got these leaves from Shira before we left," he said, "I don't think.. I don't know it's the right thing, but we must be on the right track." Would it be impossible to mistake when they did find it? Should he perhaps send someone to find Shira and lead her back here?

"Aw, so close!" Angani said, though oddly he didn't sound downtrodden in the least. He stared at the plant in the ground, then back to the actual herb hanging around Unyezi's neck, then back to the little plant. "Perhaps it's a relative of the herb. I heard somewhere that some plants have..." The guard thought hard with how to word it... "Other types of plants that are almost the same, and only a couple of things are different." He thought of the implications if this was true.

"We must be on the right track," he repeated Yezi's words with a nod, reluctant to leave the little plant. "... What should we do with this? It's not the right one, but it's something. Should we pick it? Or leave it in hopes that we could find the spot again?" He turned his eyes to the king's, waiting a command.

Unyezi leaned down again to inspect it again, hoping for something more obviously different about it. It didn't smell quite right, but then, his sample of the diminishing supply from home was getting older and dry.. perhaps there was something about that. The only lion who knew that would definitely know this was Shira, and she was not in their little search party.

He really did not imagine this was what they sought, but he did not want to pass it up.

"I think we may be on the right track," he agreed, lifting his head back up to look at Angani, "I think we need Shira here." Unyezi paused a moment before leaning down and pulling a piece of the plant from the ground, then set it down by the guard's feet.

"I want you to take this to Shira," he said, assuming the best authoritative voice he could manage- something he was still practicing, really, "If we're way off, and it's not worth looking into, just come back and find us. If it's something helpful, ask her to come back with you." Unyezi nodded, knowing that they'd all known which general direction the groups would go in when they traveled. Angani should be able to find Shira, and hopefully Unyezi, Aureole and Khathelela would not stray too far from where he might find them on his way back.

"Yes sir!" Angani said solemnly, picking up the little piece of plant at his paws. Where to carry it... he had to take a moment to think about that, but he decided that just barely in his mouth would be best. He'd know it was there, have a good grip on it, but not get it too drooly. Unyezi may have been doubtful of his ability to seem authoritative, but he really could pull the face on when he wanted. Angani looked in the direction indicated and took off. After all, the guard was used to nights with no sleep, a little jog on the way was no problem. He'd find Shira and show her, and take the proper action as quick as he could.
