Has anyone read The Prayer of Jabez, by Bruce Wilkinson? Or at least heard a sermon on the matter? It''s very interesting, very inspirational.

Mi-she I have never heard of it....what is it focused on? There is a two verse biography in 1 Chronicles 4 about a man who stood above the rest of the lineage of Judah. Among the hundreds of names listed, Jabez is given this mention. He is called "more honorable than his brothers" and prayed a very short, yet meaningful prayer to God. The book is about how powerful that one sentence prayer was.

I have a thing about not reading anything that doesn't use the King James Version. I believe that the KJV is the only preserved word of God. I don't say this to hurt feelings, or start an argument. It is something that I have been convicted of and won't change my views on the matter.

Rikonah I have a thing about not reading anything that doesn't use the King James Version. I believe that the KJV is the only preserved word of God. I don't say this to hurt feelings, or start an argument. It is something that I have been convicted of and won't change my views on the matter. I don't quite understand what you mean, since the KJV is still a translation, and not the original 'preserved word of God' I'm not trying to argue, I'm just curious what you mean.

I have found that if you use something other than the KJV then you are prone to a perverted word. Other translations have verses missing, or didn't transelate all the verses into a more understandable english. They also take the meaning away from words. Like the shortest verse in the bible. "Jesus wept" to "Jesus cried"
If you know anything about lit., then you will understand why I don't like other versions of the bible based on that alone. I also don't like the fact that in using a bible that has been made easier to read, you take the Spirits job away. The Holy Spirit guides me and tells me what each verse I read means. Untill the Spirit tells me, I don't have the faintest Idea. I like that relationship.

I read Heaven is so real by Choo Thomas. I read ESV bible and NLT. I don't have a favourite book in the bible though. Purpose driven life by Rick Warren and C.S Lewis books.

We have the other one floating around here somewhere...I should go find it. The kids' one was really good. There's a cd with songs centered around that prayer too. 3nodding I listen to it all the time.

I agree with you, that is so true, why do people try to make the bible easier to read when it is already writen in english, just becaouse there are words that we dont use as much we still know what it means, and the holy spirit has his job to do, so whats the point of any other translations?

what does divers mean?
it's in the new testement....the old KJV.....it has a much different meaning now. English has changed. The word gay, for example, we al know what it meant then and what it means now, but the new translations aren't perverting the word, they are translating the word into the language that we speak now. Only those who speak in the launguage that they spoke four hundred years ago can be justified when they say they understand.
