If Jesus dosen't want us to get hurt, why did he tell us to chop our hands off and poke our eyes out?

It was a metaphore meaning that if your hand causes you to sin, it is better to cut it off then to let it drag yourself to hell. He basically is trying to say that you should cut yourself away from your sin. To remove that which causes you to sin completely.

mo, it was a metaphor. You don't have to do it. He was just trying to say that you should keep yourself away from that thatcauses you to sin.

well then you better poke it out! Get rid of that flesh obeying organ, that which causes you to stumble and sin. Just take a spoon and scoop it out. (Don't though)

But uhh what if someone truly believes that the only way they can get to heaven is if they poke their sinful eye out.

But if they believed that the rest of their body was pure except that eye.
What would you tell them.
If they had never read the bible.
Were agnostic and had a spoon ready to pluck that eye out?

Well, if they were Agnostic and nevr had read the bible they probably wouldn't be ready to pluck out their eye.
Ok, but I would tell them that they are blowing this way out of porportion and that it is considered self-mutilation to gauge out an eye ball and that is a sin, cause we are to treat our bodies as temples of God.

But everyone sins.
What if they thought suicide was the only way.
And they said they were tight with God.
So this person thinks that God will still let me enter into heaven.

Just curious.
Used to be suicidal.
But what would you tell this person if they were suicidal and thought they were tight with god, so he would understand.
