Nurse Violet

PostPosted: Tue Nov 13, 2007 11:19 am

Nurse Violet hummed to herself as she checked the clipboard again. There were a few appointments today, and since Dr. Ronchas was out, she had to handle them herself.

"I have to do my best," she said to Selma with a warm smile. The other woman did not respond, which was not unusual, so she didn't let it bother her.

Violet had to do her best for Doctor Ronchas. She was desperate to prove that he was not wrong in hiring her. Hopefully today would make up for that lamp she'd knocked over yesterday, and that stack of papers she'd dropped the day before. (She'd spent several hours putting them back in order.)

But today would be different. Today would be a good day. She would make sure of it.

It was a quiet day at work, as usual. Noah had thought that this job was going to be more... engaging when he first signed on for it. Not that he didn't have plenty of work to do -labwork, paperwork, boring work -but he didn't feel up to it for once. The fertility clinic lacked one thing: distractions. Staring at test tube babies was only so exciting after awhile, namely thirty seconds.

Thus, a magical journey to the front lobby ensued.

Noah was suprised to see someone besides Selma there, but mostly he was relieved. There was something decidedly freaky about her, even more so than the crazy janitor who he feared was going to attempt murder on Ronchas any day. Truthfully, most of his coworkers were pretty strange, to put it lightly.

"Good morning ladies," he tried, as amicably as he could. Unfortunately, due to an inherent lack of social skills and charisma, it rather sounded like someone was forcing it out of him via gunpoint.

"Good mo~rning," Violet sang when greeted by Noah. She smiled widely. "Doctor Noah, right? It's so very difficult to remember people's names." The last bit was mumbled more to herself. "We've got a busy day with Doctor Ronchas gone." She smiled brightly again and pointed at the clipboard list of appointments. "Lots of wonderful people wanting precious little bundles of joy," she giggled.

Ronchas's serum is amazing, she thought to herself. Doing so much for so many people. She smiled widely, making it far too obvious on the outside. "Doctor Ronchas is truely amazing," she said to herself, but partially aloud.

"Um, yes. Just Noah is fine, though."

Noah visibly relaxed as Violet greeted him and Selma continued ignoring his very existance. Thank God, he reflected inwardly, it's the nice one.. Possibly the only other sane employee, Noah wasn't as intimidated by Violet as the rest of them. She was kindly and rather airheaded, and excepting a fear she might accidentally knock something down onto his foot, he had no reason to suspect her for ill-doing.

Unfortunately, she and the other nurse employed -Jack, if his memory served correctly (and it always did) -looked very similar. Pale skin, hair, and eyes. He hadn't known them very long, but their personalities seemed polar opposites. Jack seemed like she'd readily break his spine, where as Violet would only accidentally break it after giving him a bear hug or something. Or maybe if he badmouthed Doctor Ronchas, but that was a whole different story.

Violet's mention of said doctor pulled Noah from his musings back into their polite conversation. Ah, appointments. Despite his earlier feelings of wanting something new to do, Noah was unsure of whether he actually wanted to deal with a potential patient (Patient? Parent? Customer? How exactly were they referred to in this field, he was just as unsure of). Violet seemed more than eager on the other hand, so if it got too stressful he could always ask her for help.

He arched an eyebrow briefly as she giggled. "If you don't mind me asking, do you have children yourself?" he asked, then stammered out lamely, "You seem to like them a lot.

Violet blushed and drew her hands to her face. "Oh no," she giggled. "I do love them, but I don't think I could raise a child by myself, and I haven't found someone yet." The truth of that was, she had found someone, she was just waiting for him to notice her. And since Doctor Ronchas felt the same way about children, Violet was sure he would be happy to have kids.

"But I do hope to have kids some day," she smiled. "Maybe a little boy and a little girl. Maybe I'd take the serum myself," she laughed. If Violet ever did get the serum for herself, she had decided that it could only be Ronchas's child, but that would be a very long way off. For now, she was content just to work with the man.

Japi and Lithanus entered the clinic silently. Lithanus was carrying Addy, while Japi carried Lilly.

"Good morning," he said, out of habit, then looked around the room more closely. There was a different doctor there today, and a nurse. He felt a little better about coming in today. He glanced over at the desk to see that the same secretary was there, and was a little disappointed.

Japi noticed the difference too. "Hello," she said to the two new faces.

Lilly buried her face in her mother's kimono shyly.

Addy watched intently. She was so close to her father that his thoughts were spilling over into her mind, so she knew that these were new faces and found it interesting.

Though unsure of how exactly to respond to Violet, he was glad she had taken the question lightly. After all, some women took it as an insult, no matter how carefully it was worded. Luckily he didn't need to respond, as a small group entered the building. Considering that there were two children and two adults, it wasn't difficult to discern that they were already involved with the clinic.

"Good morning," Noah awkwardly smiled at the group, but felt at ease knowing that this encounter was strictly professional. He could handle people as long as he made that distinction, generally. Clearing his throat, he continued, "I'll assume that you've already scheduled an appointment? I'm Dr. Noah Bowen. Dr. Ronchas is out today, I'm afraid, so you'll be dealing with me today. Have you met Violet?"

"Oh," Japi was a little surprised that there was more than one doctor for the clinic, but really it made sense. "That's okay."

Lithanus actually smiled.

"Hello, Ms. Violet," Japi greeted the woman. They hadn't ever met. She tried to get Lilly to say greet them too, but she wouldn't.

"Hello there," Violet said cheerfully at the newcomers. "Just Violet, please."

"And how are you?" Violet asked Lilly specifically, leaning in close.

Lilly blushed and squirmed. The strange lady wasn't scary or anything, she just didn't want anyone's attention at the moment.

Japi laughed.

Lithanus turned to the doctor. "So, for the girls' appointment?" he questioned, trying to move things along. One thing he knew about his Japi, was that she could get distracted very easily, especially if it had to do with the twins.

The man had initially seemed apprehensive, so when he smiled Noah's nerves eased slightly. The woman seemed very kind, and her husband certainly wasn't being antagonistic in anyway. Peering covertly at Violet's clipboard as she tried to get one of the twins to talk to her, he memorized the names quickly. Liliana and Adriana were the children; Japi and Lithanus were the mother and father.

The appointment," Noah paused briefly, "Yes, it's just a routine check-up. We want to make sure Adriana and Liliana are healthy."

He smiled, actually relaxing before overthinking his last statement and hurriedly stuttering out, "Um. Not that you have any reason to think they wouldn't be. Doctor Ronchas would've said something. I'm sure they're fine. Just routine procedure. Yes." Ending lamely, he decidedly cut himself off before rambling on further.

Lithanus nodded. He was beginning to feel better about it. It was always possible that it was just the other doctor's personality that made him seem so sinister. If the other doctors realized that Ronchas might have said something strange, they must have noticed it as well. What Lithanus didn't realize was that Ronchas was the head doctor to begin with.

Japi looked up at Lith and they both nodded at each other. Japi turned to Lilly and cooed in her ear. "You ready to go see the doctor, sweety?" she asked gently and nuzzled the little girl's face with her nose.

Lilly giggled.

Addy just watched it all and rolled her eyes. Her father's worry at the old doctor was getting her interested though, and she couldn't wait to come back some other time, maybe to see him.

"Follow me," Violet instructed them before turning to Noah and handing him her clipboard. It had all the couple's information. "I'll take them to the examination room," she said cheerfully.

Japi followed Violet to the examining room, Lithanus in tow. The girls sat patiently in their respective parents' arms.
