Endless flows of grass and sand, rock and stream went by beneath churning hooves. Legs driving like pistons, steely muscle moving beneath a satin coat, Imrikalto swept over the landscape like a storm. Not obstacle slowed him. He flew over felled trees and rocks, waded through streams, swam when it got too deep, galloped and leapt and twined through the forests. Something drove him. A fleeting scent... The thought of someone... A chime of laughter that could have been the wind. Imrikalto threw every ounce of his strength into his run, wanting to get away from everything he had known, get somewhere he could be alone and think....
Standing in water up to his belly and chest, Imrikalto sighed softly, letting his hide cool. A long, hard run. The woods around the clearing he had stumbled into were not familiar... The lake's cool waters refreshing... And for now, he was content in the silence. "I don't know where to look." He confessed, and gave another sigh. "I don't know where you are.. Who you are..."

Flying...it was still an awkward thing, but Athena was growing more graceful with practice. She was learning the winds and how to use them to her advantage, flapping with strong swift strokes when she needed to, and spreading her wings to glide when she didn't. It was an amazing feeling, being able to survey the land from the air. She felt omniscient, omnipotent...the sensation was a heady one. So caught up in it was she that she nearly didn't notice another Soquili on the ground below, but when she did, her curiosity was piqued. Angling her wings, she drifted to the ground in a lazy spiral...stumbling only a little this time on the landing.

Now he really felt like an idiot. Carefully wading out of the water, his temper cooled by the run and hide cooled by the lake, Imri could look back on his antics and shake his head. What had he been thinking? It obviously was just a dream... Just a silly dream from foalhood.. That had edged through his mind as a young stallion. Just a silly whisper of a dream...
The sound of wings had him searching the sky, wondering if Aureate had found him. He would welcome a chat with his godbrother... But saw no sign of the familiar dark face, the white mask... The flash of gold-tipped wings... Nothing... "Hello?"

A soft smile curved Athena's lips at the call as she carefully folded her wings to her sides. Tossing her silvery mane, she paced closer quietly. "Looking for someone?" she asked, eyes dancing with gentle amusement as she awaited his reply. "Because the only other that I know of is myself..."

Definately not his Godbrother... The winged Soquili he had heard approaching was the color of the starry sky at night. All deep blue, silvery greys and whites... She almost glittered... Or sparkled... And definately a she. DEFINATELY not his Godbrother. Looking for someone? He blushed. "I.. I'm sorry, I was... And then I stopped to rest... And by the wingbeats... I thought you were my Godbrother, and obviously you're not." And obviously, you sound like an idiot.' He bowed deeply. "Greetings, Lady of the Sky.. I am Imrikalto.. A pleasure to met you..." 'Idiot. Idiot. Idiot.'

Flattery...or is it? Athena's smile widened a bit, making her expression even more bemused in the manner of an indulgent parent watching a child's antics. This Imrikalto seemed a charmer with his words, and yet she could hear a ring of sincerity in them. She liked it. "Lady of the Sky? High praise indeed, Imrikalto. I am Athena, and it is likewise a pleasure...a godbrother?" Her face grew quizzical as her brows furrowed, pondering this new word. "An unfamiliar term...what relation would that be?"

Imrikalto smiled, relaxing in spite of himself. He was always a little nervous when talking to mares... Despite Aureate's demanding ways, he really was charming.. Imri always felt like a tongue-tied weanling next to his strapping winged friend. "He is not really my brother, per se..." He offered hesitantly. "But Aure was fostered by my sire, shortly before I was born... Though not bound by blood, we grew up together... He is my truest friend..."

Understanding dawned on the star-kissed mare's face, and she nodded. "Ah, I see...I had not come across such an occurrance before, but I am young yet and lacking in experience of this world." She smiled self-deprecatingly before continuing. "My own sire and dam were not expecting me and never knew each other before Ishtar and I...but they tried their best." Love for her parents shone in Athena's eyes.

Though he didn't say it, Imri's first thought was 'that's fair unusual'... With a grin, he shrugged slightly. "Its rather unusual... I'll give you that... But our family is fair unusual... Not everyday you see groundwalkers accepting a winged foster-foal... But I'd be lying if I didn't say I thought we were all better for it... Aure included..." He glanced around a bit, then turned back to her. "Well, if you don't mind my saying, you turned out alright, for not being expected..."

Athena laughed softly, tilting her head so that the light gleamed faintly from her horn. "It seems we are both unusual in each other's eyes, are we not? Truly, it shows how diverse we all are...it makes one wonder how the intolerant persist in their views, and survive. The world...it might be a better, kinder place, if we accepted each other." She glanced up at the stars, a thoughtful light in her eyes. "If we saw how small we are in the scheme of things..."

Imri knew... He had seen and heard things of the far world... He knew he was but one colt -then later, stallion- in the grand scheme of things... And in truth, that wasn't much... Not much at all... Diversity made things interesting... This was true... "I like your thoughts, Lady of the Sky." He said it honestly and with a smile.

"Thank you...you are too kind." A slight flush heated Athena's cheeks, though it was nigh invisible under her dark azure coat. She was finding that she very much enjoyed having such a pleasant talk with a like-minded individual, one that didn't seem to be agreeing for the sake of agreement. "So what brings you out here, on such a lovely night?" she asked, eyeing the portions of Imrikalto's coat that were still damp from...an earlier swim, perhaps?

He blushed under his dark coat, relieved she couldn't see. What had brought him so deep into the woods in the middle of the night, far beyond his family's usual territory? A fool's dream... A strange voice in the night... The soft chime of laughter on the night wind... "I... Needed to be alone to think, for awhile... And the best way to do that, was to get out of Aure's normal flight range... So I moved far beyond everything I've ever seen.. And now I'm here." He trailed off rather lamely.

Athena nodded slightly. She could understand wanting to be able to think things out...she had needed to do a lot of it, when she was a filly. It had brought her to her current views, influenced her actions. Perhaps if she had been born in a different situation, she might be a more rash individual. But the past was the past, and she was satisfied with the Soquili that she was. "Ah...far more interesting than a mere starlight flight. I hope you find a resolution to whatever is troubling you."

"I think I already have." He said without thinking, smiling at her. Athena... The star-painted female who had fallen right out of the sky and landed before him. For the first time since he had become an adult, Imri wished he had Aureate's wings...
