Has anyone been paying attention to the more popular Avatar message boards? Apparently not only are you not allowed to tell people where to find copies of Day of the Black Sun (which I understand) but you not even allow to TALK about the plot points of 310 or 311, even with spoiler tags. In Distant Horizon, the staff makes a somewhat pathetic plea for the poster to be a "good Avatar fan" and not even talk about it (Like discussing what happening in those episodes will somehow force the creators to quit and cancel the show).
You think THAT'S sad, Avatar Spirit is banning anyone that even so much as utters anything about or from 310 or 311.
Guys, the episodes were leaked, most fans saw them already and (since it's impossible to erase our memories) we're going to want to talk about what we saw. And... well.... they ARE Avatar forums. GET. OVER. IT.
Am I right? ninja

I'd rather not come across a spoiler someone didn't mark, or didn't think was much of a spoiler. I'd rather people didn't even hint at what is to come. Yes, spoilers should be a bannable offense.
Unless everybody has had a chance to see the episode, by which I mean it has been on television for everyone, all discussion of future events should at the very least be kept to one thread.

Well, look at it this way. How did most people see the eps that have not aired in the states? Download, or some other method. All of which are illegal. So these sites, then, are discouraging the use of illegal means to watch a licensed product.

Never the less, it did happen and it cant be undone. And talking about it isn't illegal. Just telling people where to find them. I'm all for banning someone that posts a link to a file sharing site, but to discourage episode discussion even when protected by spoiler tags is just out of line.

So they can go to a different forum.
Not a big deal.

Well, this is the only avatar forum I go to so... big deal for me. But I get what you're saying. Just make a rendez-vous point for all the rebels who watched it. ninja

I got massively spoiled on livejournal.
A zero-tolerance rule MIGHT have spared me. I dunno, the downloads were super-illegal and people aren't being kind with the spoilers this time through.

I dunno, the downloads were super-illegal and people aren't being kind with the spoilers this time through. Super-illegal is a little bit of an exaggeration, don't you think? It's just the same as using a P2P program to share music. Not exactly super illegal, and think about fan-subbing. *shrugs* A lot of things are illegal that we don't even realize. It doesn't mean that a zero-tolerance policy should be instated. I mean, conversing isn't a ban-able offense to me. It seems so trivial...

But talking about it is admitting you did something illegal. It's totally fair to punish you and them for watching it before you should have by downloading or watching it illegally.

I don't think the issue is whether it's illegal or not. People will do illegal stuff on the internet, knowing that it's illegal. The main problem is for those of us who watch it on American television don't want it spoiled, it ruins the show for them. It's almost impossible to enforce the no-talking rule, it would be better for them to just ask people that have seen it not to spoil the episodes and wait just until everyone else has had a chance to see it til they discuss it. That would be fair to people who obey the law. But people, it's not hard to keep from talking about something on the internet. It's not like speaking aloud, where you can blurt it out. But posting, hell, you have to click several times to post something and in that time you can stop yourself. If you want to talk about it, make a thread asking if they have seen it. For those who post that they do, PM them if you want to talk about it. Or better yet, if they can and you want a multiple person discussion, take it into a house in towns. There are so many options for not spoiling people, it's so easy.
