The days were growing shorter and the wind seemed to have a slight bite to them as they caressed her fur. She stood at the base of the snow-capped mountains wondering when the first snow might fall. The first snow was always the best, so light and flakey, it was not as violent as the blizzards that happened deeper in the snowy regions. Though her home was almost always covered in snow, somehow, that first winter snow was quite special to her every year. She let her head look down into the valley and hoped her friend would be warm enough tonight, Maybe I'll stop by before dusk and see if he needs anything. Her itoku friend Sylvain was so kind and she often treated him like the younger brother she never had.

Depth laid on the ledge of a permafrost cliff. Grey clouds hovered over head promising winters first snow, also meaning a promise of another cold winter. How boring it was, always cold and always snowy. Sometimes Depth wished the permafrost would just melt away and give them some relief, but this minya knew that would never happen. What a bother, what a joke, what an annoyance, it was enough to send a minya into insanity.
He slowly got up, greeted by mornings crisp wind, and shook off stray permafrost chunks off his fur. Would be another gray day he was afraid.

The sky was dark and had a foreboding look to it now as Rowan stood up. She flexed her wings up and then folded them again as she surveyed the lands. Rowan sniffed at the air and watch the clouds with interest, she had a very measuring look in her face. She decided she might as well walk and spend the day in the valley with her friend before the first snow. It wouldn't be until later that day judging by the clouds shape and movement.
She perked her ears up listening and heard the soft sounds of snow crunching, not by her own feet. Hmm, I thought this area was uninhabited save for me?

Depth's ears where flat against his skull, and his tail tucked between his legs. Grim as usual, this Minya had found this cliff after much looking to get away from his own kind. Distant and alone was how he liked to be and he was sure this cliff was pretty much no where another Minya would venture.
He padded up a few cliffs, snow crunching under his paws as he did so, looking for some kind of root to dig up for breakfast. He didnt smell anything under the permafrost that smelt eatable. It was pretty barren up here but a small price to pay for ones privacy.

Rowan's ears were leading her along as she sniffed at the air gently, being sure not to burn her lungs with the icy cold. She couldn't really tell much at this level on the mountain, everything was so cold. She lifted her head to the skies a moment, considering flying around to see, but didn't want to lose the sound of the creature's footsteps.
She followed her senses, finally picking up a smell which was new and strange. Her ears laid back against her head gently as she suddenly felt rather territorial about her home. Rowan finally came into view of what was making the sound and it was a strange, blue Minya. He had no wings like herself and she counted that an advantage against the stranger.

A strange new scent entered Depth's since of smell, something or someone was close by. How, was the first thought that entered his mind followed by what and who? The minya did not make any comment just turned around to see who had entered his, or so he thought his, territory to meet eyes with a winged female minya.
It was logical that she would choose such a high place to live, not logical at all for him. He must have entered her territory by mistake, though he didnt feel the need to feel bad about it. He had not done so on purpose. His ears were still flat against his skull but his tail now stuck up as he started to size up this new minya. He didnt say anything just watched.

Rowan locked eyes on the male and she felt like she could see through to his soul, it felt colder than the ice around her in some ways, but, yet, there was something else she couldn't quite place. He took on the typical stance of resoluteness for their kind. Her eyes narrowed at this, she was not quite pleased but she stepped closer, she felt safe enough in her ability to fly to get away if necessary.
She was closer, but not enough to startled or come anywhere near touching, it was only polite to do so, plus she didn't want to be -that- close to him at the moment. She kept her tail close to her body and kept her ears straight up, alter, to show she was unafraid and determined. "Who are you? How did you come by this place?"

Depths ears lifted as the minya took a few steps close to him. She saw him as not a threat and that was fine by him; fighting was always so bothersome. Her words echoed threw his mind, who are you? Blue eyes unblinking and his face unemotional he nodded at her.
"I climbed," He stated, not proud or boasting, just matter of fact so. There was no more to it, he thought at least, and who cared how he got here any ways? He didnt. Turning his back on the minya with out saying another word he started to sniff around for roots again. She was not threatening in his mind.

Rowan smirked at the male, mistaking his aloofness for weakness. She walked close enough to touch him at the longest stretch of their limbs and stood as if she wouldn't leave without an answer. "Do you intend to reside here? If so, it'd be nice to know my "neighbors" name." She said the word neighbor with a slight touch of disdain at having to share, but she grew up in this area and felt more protective of it than she thought he could ever know.

Neighbor, a faint smirk curled on the males maw. He continued on sniffing, but stopped. Something had entered his bubble, that girl. Annoyed he lifted his head and looked back at her.
"Depth," He stated continuing on his path to find some roots not really in the mood to give her the chance to ask more questions about him self. His least favorite topic was just that; him self. His cold actions should have been enough to give her the message, or so he thought but he could since this girl had a strong will. He didnt know what to expect.

Hearing his name and the manner in which he spoke, made her want to push him further. He seemed the sort to be infuriatingly calm through any encounter and she wondered how deep Mr. Depth was.
Rowan cantered towards him then flew up into the air, just enough to glide over him and to the left of the path he was walking. She smirked and began to look out over the valley, pretending to be immersed in something else. "You know you're going about that wrong." She inwardly grinned to herself, but her voice was calm and matter of fact as if she knew something he did not.

Depth lifted and turned his head at her comment. His face bland and unchanging, but, his ears were now perked for listening.
"Am I now?" He asked with the same calmness he had from before. He was sure he was going about it the correct way, however, if there was a better way it would be useful up here. It was easy to starve to death if one had no fast means of finding food. Depth was wise to this.

Rowan grinned in a secret and self-satisfying way, she really was enjoying keeping him on edge as he waited for her to reply. She landed then walked closer, keeping at least 1 - 2 paces away as she circled the area he was sniffing.
"I don't know if you'd be able to pick up my method of finding edible roots." Her smile changed to something more friendly and she leaned her head down to sniff a bit. Then she took a side step and spread her wings wide. Her wings fluttered gently, they beat in wide strokes but only just enough to lift and sift away the snow on the floor. She uncovered two roots sitting just under the snow she had lifted away.

Depth face was unchanging as he watched but truly he was impressed by her skill. He glanced over at the roots and back at the spot. The words, "Impressive" escaped his maw.
"I must say you have some skill." He admitted with the same cool calmness he had from before.

Rowan could not help but feel extremely gratified by his slip of words. Mmmm, maybe there's more intelligence in this male than I thought. He is definitely something new.
As he spoke her unnoticed happy grin turned to a smirk. "Well, I did say you'd be a nieghbor since I have lived here for quite some time." She bent down and picked up one of the roots for herself, eating it with a touch of feminine grace. "The snow makes for hard living."
