 The jungle.
This was more like it; she'd been travelling for a long while, and somehow, being back home merely brought a sense of freedom and happiness into Kinge's heart. Or lack-there-of, many would have argued. Alas, as it was, pale marked female padded the familiar grounds with an air of grace, her head held high as she took in her surroundings, judging the new scents while evaluating the old ones. After a while had gone by, Kinge decided that not much had changed, and that the jungle was still pretty much the same as ever; new smells had entered, old ones had left... while fewer ones had come in and gone out, both, during her absence.
Nothing significant that she could see, and thus nothing truthfully important for her to investigate. Licking her lips, she searched for the tree she'd long since come to think of as 'hers', hoping to god no idiot had decided to take residence on it during her travels. As was her luck though, the thief knew that someone (an idiot, no doubt, really, because granted... everyone was an idiot within Kinge's mind unless she was proved the contrary for effect), had doubtlessly taken it to use the only tree in the jungle which she deemed as hers.
It was karma.
She was well aware of it, and thus well prepared as she padded onward till the tall trunk came into view. Needless to say she was mildly surprised to find it completely devoid of idiots she'd need to chase off, however, as she reached the base... the scent of another caught her attention, "Dear lord..." she murmured under her breath as she allowed her head to fall dramatically back, her gaze staring up at the canopy, where she could barely make out the sky, "I knew it was too good to be true," rolling her eyes, she sunk her claws into the bark and pulled down several times, sharpening them to mark the trunk as hers. It was only after she was done that she sat down, tilting her head to one side, obviously trying to determine where the scent was coming from.
Could be from above; her gaze slid up to regard the dense vegetation as she pondered. Could be from around her right.... could be from anywhere, really, for the lack of wind did not allow her to determine where exactly the other's scent was coming from, "Come out, come out where ever you are..." she murmured under her breath, barely audible, a sing song tone to her words, "Heeeeeeere.... idiot, idiot, idiot...."

Sleep beckoned him, yet it was only midday. Chui dragged his paws lazily across the familiar jungle ground, eyes drooping as he made his way through the trees. Miraculously, he had yet to bump into some inanimate object that his groggy eyes had missed. The leopard stifled a yawn, groaning as he paused for a moment to sit down and rest. He had a rather big lunch, surprisingly. Usually meals were pretty small around here, but he got lucky that particular afternoon and snagged a big...well, he didn't really know what it was. But it was bigger than anything he'd caught before. Before long, he began padding his way again, still sleepy and half-blinded by it.
And so a small breeze picked up, and a sudden, unfamiliar scent was brought to his attention. His ears pricked finally, eyes suddenly coming back to life as he scanned the immediate area around him. Nothing. Chui grumbled, realizing that perhaps his weariness was getting to him, so he went on without another bother about it. Besides, what concern was it to him if someone had entered the jungle. He didn't own the mass of territory after all -- just a single tree in it.
Chui made his way through the last bush, smiling, and gave a loud yawn. "Home sweet home!" he exclaimed, hardly noticing that he had company.

The wind refused to blow within the dens vegetation and it was a rather long time during which the female sat, frowning slightly as she waited, her tail lashing out behind her. She'd hushed her sing-songing down after those few initial words, having decided that she wanted the upper hand against whomever it was that had taken residence in her bloody, god-damned tree; after all, if she knew where he (yes, he - so far the scent had allowed her to determine that much) was before he knew where she was, she'd thus have the upper hand and the opportunity for a first strike.
her so called 'wish' was granted when Chui sauntered into the small clearing, chirping quite happily, and needless to say, forcing Kinge to roll her eyes at the display. Moron, her mind thought instantly, but then again, her mind always seemed to think that instantly, and never did it rectify itself unless proved otherwise... which was, surprisingly, a hard enough task to carry out, "Oi," stepping out of the shadows the trees created, she revealed herself to him, an elegant brow arching sky-high as she regarded him, "Couldn't you have picked any other tree in the jungle? Did you have to pick this one? Which obviously had a female scent lingering to it?" she paused briefly, not giving him time enough to answer the first question before she offered him a flat, dull, almost bored look, "Are you one of those sick weirdos that gets off by doing that?"
She wouldn't be surprised; Kinge had, after all, long since noticed she was some sort of an idiot magnet. This probably had to do with the fact karma liked to bite her on the tail in strange ways, however, the female had also come to the decision that long ago, she must've done something horribly bad in a past life to displease the Gods, one way or another. Because this was utterly moronic, at best, "Lots of trees to chose from," she waved dismissively at all the surrounding ones before her eyes became heavy-lidded, her expression bored, haughty, "May I please have my tree back?" it was amusing to note how, even despite the fact she'd added the word 'please', the words and overall tone of voice has a taunting tinge to me that seemed to indicate she was... more or less mocking him
Beneath her.

He froze, mid-step, almost falling forward when he finally noticed that someone was there. Chui felt his body tense immediately, then lax again when he noticed that she wasn't going to attack. At least not...physically. The male scrunched his face a little while listening to her rant on and on about her tree...her tree. He let out a small laugh, then moved his eyes around to look at all the other trees around him. True, he hadn't thought that the tree had belonged to anyone else when he decided to take residence there. He did notice that there was some scent to it, but being who he was, he paid it no mind. If it was empty, it was there for the taking.
"Y'know," he cut in when she was almost finished. "It's as simple as asking to begin with. No need for a speech and all that nonsense you managed to blurt out within a minute." He cocked a brow and walked to a tree nearby, rubbing his back against it and stretching. "I don't really care where I sleep, so long as I can sleep in peace." Chui turned to look at her, his expression still bored, still sleepy. "So are you done? Or is there anything else you've got to say?"

Raising a claw, the female snorted, "I spoke a great total of two sentences to you, idiot, and then I calmly asked for my tree back; the previous sentences were offered so you'd know it was my home, and thus needed," a pause as she happily sauntered towards her (thankfully still hers, actually) home, "However if a logical explanation is nonsense to you, then that must mean you really are an idiot," this said, she returned to the previous task of sharpening her claws on the bark.
Unlike him she didn't seem particularly amused by the banter; in fact, she didn't seem to be particularly moved by it, one way or another. It was almost as if this type of situation had become the norm for her, and thus no longer affected her in any sort of way. A pause followed, after which Kinge made a full show of stopping the sharpening of her claws to press a finger to her maw, faking deep thought, "Now let me see..." taking her time, she 'hummed' softly before turning her gaze on the golden male, "No, there is nothing else I wish to say to you, and no need for your company either; you are dismissed," this said, she actually waved her paw 'dismissively', shooing him away from the clearing.
Of course, she didn't expect him to leave, or take the bait, really. As far as these sorts of situations seemed to go, idiots never took their leave at this point; they either kept on snapping at her, to which she'd answer till either one got tired and left, or they stuck around and sulked. Something told her this one would be the former type, rather than the later, and thus taking a deep breath she released a sigh, a grim expression spreading on her maw.
It wasn't entirely her fault, really; it was true she was bitter in a way, and antisocial in another, however, no one had ever given her a chance not to, not had anyone given her a reason not to either. Thus she remain as she was, content to be alone, for in Kinge's mind, it was better to be alone than wrongly accompanied. Right? Right.

Strange. He found himself at a loss for words, either from complete surprise at her reply, or....that she managed to effectively insult him in less than 5 sentences. The feeling, he had to admit, was new, but he shrugged it off and climbed to a low branch on his new tree. "Well, if you don't mind, your highness, I'd like to take a small nap right here." Chui got comfortable where he lay, but refused to fall asleep. The leopardess seemed too interesting to just...leave alone, and with a small smile he acknowledged her once more, this time a bit more politely.
"Actually, I suddenly don't feel so tired," he said, rubbing an eye gently with his paw. He desperately groped for a subject to talk about, and without thinking much he asked, "So where did you come from?" It was awkward sounding, and completely random, but he wanted the conversation. Half of him already winced in anticipation of some sort of insult or another, but if that was what it cost for company at the moment so be it. "I'm Chui, by the way. And by what name do you go by?" And he waited for that acid reply, somewhat tense. Something told him he wouldn't like what she was going to say...but it was already too late to take anything back anyway. Might as well just listen...

Wait for it, her mind told her, just wait for it. And of course, just as she'd anticipated, it came; despite his previous claim of wishing to leave, he had suddenly decided not to. Oh, woe was her. Rolling her eyes slightly, the female let out a long suffering sigh, almost if to voice the fact she'd actually been expecting this outcome of a situation and that she wasn't entirely all too surprised by it, "Sure thing, love, go right ahead, it's not like you've worn out your welcome or anything," this said, she elegantly jumped to the lowest branch of her tree, allowing her head to fall upon her crossed forepaws, her tail dangling bellow, swishing lightly from side to side; a mild twitch of it's tip alerting that despite the fact her eyes were closed, she was wide awake.
Kinge had not missed the slight upturning of his maw as he'd smiled at her, and though she'd been mildly curious over what the HELL she'd done for him to be smiling at her, she'd let it go. It was best not to tempt things. Thus was why she'd closed her eyes in order to attempt sleep, regardless of the situation she'd suddenly found herself in; it wasn't till his voice drifted towards her that an ear twitched, "Charmed," she murmured with a snort, "Of course you're not tired, I just verbally roughed you up," despite her words, there was a warmer sort of tinge to her voice, one of her eyes peeking open to reveal gleaming gold as she watched him. Granted, she didn't care too much if he stayed or left, however, she was rather bored, and thus idly, she figured that idle chit-chat would beat just lazying alone on her branch all day.
Beggars can't be choosers.
A roll of her shoulders signalled a shrug, her languid gaze turning to glance towards her right, from which she'd come from earlier that day, "Everywhere," she answered, then paused, obviously feeling the need to add to her previous words, "And nowhere, all at the same time. I got bored with the jungle. It happens; so I left... however, I seem to be somewhat of an idiot magnet, even when it's not a full moon out, so after getting tired, I figured home was the best place to return to," she snorted softly, her breath forming a small puff of dust that lifted from the branch, "At least here, I can tolerate the idiots, what with the fact this is home, and shall always be thus."
Regarding the slight wince he offered her, even before she'd begun to to talk, the leopardess allowed a smirk to ghost over her features, "Maybe you're not as big an idiot as I thought," it was murmured under her breath, her tail still twitching in that languid fashion, right to left and back again. It wasn't an insult; in fact, it was as big a compliment as she'd offered anyone in a very long time, which was, actually, a start.

It wasn't as bad as he'd originally thought. In fact, Chui found he could stand what she'd said, though the whole "idiot" part of it must've included him thus knocking his pride down a notch or two. He sighed and shrugged it off, figuring she must've thought everyone she ever encountered was an idiot. Not everyone was all pleasant, after all, and Chui wouldn't be the one to judge right now. Especially since any sort of witty remark he could come up with she could easily reply to with one of her own, only the effect would hit him ten-fold over. "I know what you mean about how boring this place can be," he said, his voice a bit monotone. "I've only been here a few months though, so I'm not entirely tired of it just yet."
Chui rolled over to his side, rocking the branch to and fro ever so slightly. Salmon eyes landing on the leopardess, and once more he groped around for another subject to talk about. "Uhm....so have you got any family around here...?" he asked after a prolonged, very awkward silence. His tail swished side to side as he waited for her response. Surprisingly his muscles weren't as tense, and this time he didn't hold his breathe. He still inwardly winced though, wondering what else she could possibly say to him at the moment that would make him a bit more uncomfortable, or...well, nervous. Maybe it was just the fact that she was the first leopardess he'd ever had to deal with. If they're all like this....the gods help me, I'll die before I find a mate.. he thought to himself, allowing a small smile to spread across his maw, though for only a second.

A snort followed her eyes still merely half open before her maw opened into a yawn, her fangs showing, tongue curling in a lazy manner before the yawn ended, "It's not so much how boring it as how... uneventful; I get restless," it was the truth; after all, she did like the fact the jungles (as far as she was concerned) were calm, peaceful even, however, her body ached for action of some sort every now and again. In fact, the leopardess found she usually ached and itched for verbal banter now and then, and she couldn't quite scratch that particular itch unless someone was around.
A paw was waved lazily at him as she reclined herself smoothly over her branch, "It'll come," she murmured, "It'll come; it's feline nature," she fell silent after that, her eyes drifting shut till he spoke again. It was then it actually hit her; he was trying his best as starting (and maintaining) a conversation with her, which was, on it's own, rather amusing, really, come to think about it. A pause followed, after which she opened her eyes and tilted her head to one side; that simple motion made her appear almost childish for a moment, a small brow arching, however this time in mild curiosity rather than the haughty manner it had previously, "You're trying to engage in conversation," she stated bluntly, almost as if needing to hear the actual words spoken in order to believe them, a smirk cracking at the sides of her maw, "Even though I insulted you," again she was stating the obvious; in a way she was trying to dissect the situation, as it trying to figure out what exactly she was missing.
In the end she come to the conclusion that he was either a) a masochist, b) extremely bored, or c) he fancied her and this was his poor attempt at flirting.
The last notion sent a smooth, almost musical laughter up her throat, her ears pulling back as she chuckled, mirth apparent in her voice, "I'm quite alone; my mother, may she rest in peace, died long back, and my siblings are long gone. Not sure where they are. I never knew my father and I'm mateless. So I guess it's safe to say I have entirely no family around these parts, that I know of anyhow," stretching, the female paused to ponder, and then in one swift movement, dropped down from her branch, padding over to his tree till she had to look up at him. This done, and in one fluid motion she climbed up the trunk to lay stand partially on the same branch he was, lowering her head till they were almost nose to nose, "You can relax those muscles; you're tense. Despite what you may believe.... ain't gonna eat'cha..." a pause, her head remaining where it was, an ear twitching playfully, "Kinge, by the way," she finally answered his previous question, "At your service," the later words were said with a taunting, almost mocking tone, but rather than it being biting, it was playful, as if she were expecting a response, her form moving to an adjacent branch to lay down.
If he expected conversation, she wasn't going to talk from one tree to another; besides, it was more amusing this way.

If ever there was anything she could have said to make him even more uncomfortable, those last few sentences would have been it. Naturally, after stating his pathetic attempt at some sort of conversation, Chui laughed nervously and inwardly denied it; he made no remark, however, knowing that if he said or did anything that held the smallest hint of denial, she'd point it out immediately. Then he'd be defenseless, yet again, against her sharp tongue. He tried his best to shrug off her blunt statement upon realizing his attempts.
So he was weak.
He wouldn't deny that fact about himself, especially not after this particular meeting. It wasn't entirely his fault, after all, that he had just recently grown into adulthood. With a yawn, Chui entertained himself with the thought and closed his eyes for a second. It was hard acting as though hardly anything the leopardess said actually got to him, mainly because everything she said had already affected him in some manner. His confidence, for one, was already out of sight. It wasn't until he opened his eyes did he almost fall off the branch he was lying on, as this was about the same time she was practically nose to nose with him. Luckily, he regained his balance with a loud gulp, and he coughed a bit to hide his embarrassment.
"U-uhh, so Kinge huh? That's an interesting name.." he replied, a bit flustered. His voice broke somewhere in between, which didn't help him any, but he kept going. "Sorry to hear about the family. It probably wouldn't help to know that I don't have any family either, but then at least you'll know I can sort of relate." The words came stumbling out, still as awkward as ever before.

She lifted her head off from his and laughed; she couldn't quite help it. She'd always prided herself in being the ice-queen extraordinaire... in being cold, harsh and unnervingly unemotional, yet there were timed she met certain fellows that rubbed that small spot of hers. This male was doubtlessly one of them, as had been that male hyena she'd met, not long ago, "Poor sod!" the words were said almost melodically as she laughed; it wasn't a mocking, or taunting sound, and it lacked the bitter scorn it might've had she been making fun of him. Rather, the sound was full of unadulterated mirth, and the leopardess was forced to take a step back to recline herself against the trunk of the tree as the laughter died down.
This was rich.
"Oh, dear gods..." she'd calmed down, her paw pressing to her chest in a vague attempt to regain her breath; her outburst hadn't been rude, really, but at least ice-shattering in resolve, "I can't believe it; an honestly innocent male. Would you look at that?" chuckling under her breath, she edged forward again, till she was laying comfortably against him, a paw waving in the air, "Look; I like you," she said, a brow arching, "You might think I'm a little imp, or a demoness, but I'm far from it, however, there's more than one girly out there that won't mind taking advantage of you, so do me a favour and..." she pressed her nose almost coyly against his again, her lids hooding her eyes, "Spiffy up," the words were whispered before she pulled away, looking quite innocent.
In fact, now that she wasn't teasing him, nor being bitter, she looked quite young, almost innocent for a moment; the stance suited her no doubt. It was a pity she rarely abandoned her self-proclaimed 'high horse' to get near enough anyone to show them this state. Few had seen it, needless to say, "Oh, honey, don't worry about my family. It's long since passed. Besides..." she shifted her weight so that her hind leg and her long fluffy tail were hanging from the branch, swishing lightly underneath, "Leopards are lonely creatures, so it's not that hard," a pause as sh became pensive for a moment, looking away from him and towards the distance (or what little she could see between the foliage, "Sometimes I rather wish I were a lioness..."

Well this was....different. She was laughing, yet it wasn't the type of laugh he'd thought to hear from her. Chui had expected a sort of icy, taunting sort of laugh. Yet this was.....so far from it that he refused, for only a moment, to believe that this was the same leopardess he'd been talking to for the past few minutes. Despite the obvious amusement she seemed to get out of his, as she put it, "innocence," he smiled a bit of a shy smile. He was still very young, after all, and had been sheltered in the jungle since his juvenile years. The leopard had seen very little of the world beyond the jungle borders, and compared to her he had a lot of growing up to do, appearances aside.
"Like me?" he questioned a little while after she finished speaking, having to say the words to at least grasp the idea. It was, like her reaction, a very unexpected statement. Chui was a bit more ready this time around though, and when she was nose-to-nose with him once again he managed lay still, though still looked absolutely clueless as to what she was talking about. "I wouldn't really let anyone take advantage of me.." he replied, "But....I guess I still have a lot to learn and experience. I haven't taken a step beyond the jungle borders since I was little.." The shy smile returned once more as he lifted his head, ears twitching a bit as he listened to her talk.
Lonely? He'd never really minded the feeling, he had to admit. Another thing that she seemed to understand more-so that him. Chui proceeded to sit up, his head tilted slightly, as he took in the idea of being another species other than his own. It was.....not all that pleasant a thought, but it wasn't unpleasant either. "Why's that? Are lions and lionesses all that different from us? They're cats too, aren't they?" Chui watched her, obviously a bit more interested than he wanted to let on. "I don't think I could picture myself a large, bulky lion. It looks a little hard to move with all that flesh.."

"Like you, yes," Kinge arched a brow, mirth shinning in her eyes as she regarded him, "Is it such a far-fetched notion that you have to look so thunder-struck?" of course, she knew where he was coming from; she'd, after all, set out the path for him to follow, however, she couldn't help tease him over it, if only mildly, for her own benefit, "I can like; it's not such a foreign idea!" she chose to leave out the fact that it was, in fact, a rather foreign idea indeed. Across her travels, she'd only met two souls she'd liked so far; one a hyena (that pretty much still wished to lay his teeth on her for stealing his meal that night) and a lioness she'd had an amusing conversation one time, at the base of the large mountain in the distance.
A pause followed, after which the leopardess offered him a blank look, as if what he'd just said were the biggest lie she'd ever heard in her entire life, "Kid," she said, "Take it from me; you're shark-bait," she paused a second time, feeling the need to rephrase the term, for after all, having never travelled, it was doubtful that Chui even knew what a shark was, "You're jail-bait, your whole being seems to scream 'I am naive, have at me!'," she waved a paw dismissively, then continued, "Not that it's a bad thing, but I don't believe even for a second that you wouldn't let someone take advantage of you; the right pair of fluttering eyes... the right pelt, the right chosen words.... and believe me, you're a goner," it wasn't meant as an insult, but rather, a warning, that much was obvious as she nodded her head somewhat, "Seen it a few times myself, thought I don't particularly use that tactic. It's a foul move."
Kinge was a thief, yes, but even she held herself to a certain amount of morals, however singularly twisted they were. She did not believe in stringing a male on in order to get a meal; she felt that teasing them, and females, both equally was okay, however, love was not something to be toyed with. It brought bad karma, and amusingly enough... she was superstitious enough to believe such a thought, "Bad karma that," she voice her thought at him, leaning her head lazily on her outstretched paws.
Another chuckle was issues as he spoke once more, her eyes hooding over, "It's not about the bulk, love," there was a soft tinge to her voice, almost as if she'd actually pondered this through on more than one occasion, "Ain't even about the way they move; it's the fact they're social," she smiled up at him then, and for the first time since they'd met, the small stretch of her maw was real and not fake, for whatever reason, "They're social creatures; they live together, hunt together, age together... all that rot that we seem to think is below us," lifting her gaze so that their eyes were locked, she arched a brow, "I think they actually have the right idea going for them."

So far everything he'd gotten out of this particularly uncomfortable conversation was that he was that she somehow (by some freak miracle that he said something likable) liked him, that he was naive, and he was weak. Very weak. With a sigh he lowered his head back down to his paws, tail swishing a little less than it was just a moment ago. "I guess being sheltered in the jungle for so long..." he said silently, "Just kinda made me that way. Not that many leopards or anything interact with on a day-to-day basis, after all." The leopard inclined his head upward, eyes studying her. "Maybe I need to get out more, yeah?" It was more a rhetorical question, if anything.
A slight tilt of his head was enough to show that he didn't understand what she was saying at all. Having lived such a solitary life, it was hard to picture anything else, and it he had yet to realize that it was that close-mindedness that kept him from taking in much of what she had to say about the other species. Chui yawned lightly, now lifting his upper half so he was sitting up now. For one so early on in adulthood, he'd gotten pretty big over time. "So...they're sociable? Then couldn't we be the same? Maybe not as large a scale as lions, but I mean it wouldn't be impossible. A small family unit in the future, probably at best.." It wasn't a notion that he presented because he had any intention of settling down with her, but it was the only reason he could think of where he wouldn't mind being in a group of sorts.
It was only then did he even remotely understand why she would say that leopards are naturally solitary creatures.
"Haven't you ever thought about that?" The words came tumbling out, a bit strange, but not as awkward as the first time he posed such a question. "You've traveled to so many places, so it must've crossed your mind at least once, right?" It took a moment for him to digest the information he'd just presented. He only just started thinking about it himself. "Well.....actually I only just thought about it right now..." The statement was followed by an uncomfortable silence, inevitable no doubt, as he touched on a subject he really hadn't the slightest clue about.
Perhaps that was the reason he winced slightly, and didn't try the least bit to hide it.

"Oh, honey," she smiled at him, a smile that was sincere for once, and lacked the usual biting sarcasm, "That's not a bad thing; in fact, many peeps out there would give their right paws to find someone like you, for better, as much as worse. In fact, I know quite few peeps that'd give their tails up to be like you," and then, the smirk was back, however, it was teasing, no doubt... tugging a bit of harmless fun at him, so he'd be able to laugh instead of feeling somewhat ashamed, "That whole innocent air is kinda cute, and chicks dig it a lot, if that helps any," pressing a paw to her chest, she continued, "Believe me; I'm a girl. I'd know."
And indeed she knew. Oh yes; there were enough assholes out there, however, a personality like Chui's was rather refreshing and as she'd mentioned, extremely cute. Almost adorable, however, she'd refrain from mentioning the later, in fear she'd hurt his male-pride. She knew all males had pride, after all, and this one was no different. She could tell.
"Hmmmm..." Kinge paused to consider his thoughts, for just the briefest of moments before she closed her eyes and shook her head lightly, so as not to put him off, or make him feel any worse, "No; you see... leopards and lions are different," he raised a paw, hushing him, almost as if expecting him to interrupt, "On a different level, not only physical. They're social... while we're just..." lowering her paw she moved it, as if dismissing a thought, her brows knitting together in a slight frown, "Different. It's in our instincts; our souls. We're just not built to be social," chuckling, she continued, "I'd love to see a leopard attempt a pride of sorts. It'd crash to the ground, let me tell you. That's just not the way we're meant to be."
"Haven't you ever thought about that?"
There was another pause as he spoke, her head lifting, her gaze peeking through the gaps the foliage offered, lids dropping to hood her eyes. Ah yes, she had. Quite a few times, indeed, alas, it was a while till she answered, her gaze focusing on him. Long gone were the traces of the smile, leaving her quite bare for him to see, amusingly enough... honest, "I have," it was said almost as if she were confessing something she'd done. Something that might just have been considered a crime, "A lot, actually," her gaze once more drifted to the openings in the foliage, "Just haven't found the right one; too smart... too dumb, too assholic... too laid back - none for me," thankfully, she had time though, she knew that, and just to lighten up the subject, she offered him another smile, "It's all good though; I'm a patient lil thief, and it'll be a long time still till I feel my biological clock a-ticking away."
