Well my hair is very nappy at times. I have a lot of it and it is very thick. I tried not to use perms, but nothing else that I know of can cut it like a perm. I was perm free for 5 years until today when I used a kiddie perm. Even though that is not the full perm it worked pretty good. But I still don't like using the so do you know what else there is that I can do?

(Oh and my hair doens't hold a press for long maybe a few hours)

What kinda look are you trying to achieve?
I cut all my permed hair off and have been natural for
about 3 months now. Its really short and all I can do is
wear my tiny fro. I love not having to be bothered by my
hair anymore. What about braids?

I like the down look and I do get braids, but I don't like getting them all the time because it is really hard for me to keep them longer than a week. It would just have to be a really good week for me to actually keep them longer. I just want something to make my hair managable so it can hold a press and I can wear it down.

Have you tried embracing and seeing the beauty of your natural texture? I'm not even fully natural yet and I love not having to worry about a perm taking my hair out, hair appointments, over processing, depending on a stylist that's going to mess up my hair anyway.

Seriously, being natural isn't just some political statment, it's a part of your body and you weren't born with a perm kit. I know you described your hair as nappy but just because it's not straight doesn't mean it's ugly and can't be taken care of. Redefine the way you think about your hair and learn to take care of it for what it is.

Here's some sites you might want to look at

So you think your has to be straight or braided (i.e. anything other than the way it grows out) to not look a hot mess? correct me if I'm wrong...I hope I'm wrong

Why not just wear your hair naturally for a couple days? Shape it into a nice afro (make sure to gently comb the tangles and knots out) and add some accessories. It gives your hair a chance to rest, it's relatively low-maintenance, and you don't have to worry about water. You do have to make sure the afro stays neat, though.

Scarves are a really good idea and look cute with anything.

FYI: it's best to comb natural hair when it's wet or really moisturized. You risk breakage when you comb it dry.
