Though preoccupied, Halexei was in a helpful mood today. It was so rare that one of the souls he had saved was ready to choose his or her path into life so calmly, without the stress of added problems. This one has to save his friend, that one has to lose her love, why, oh why, were all these little mortals so complex? But this.. this he could handle.

Halexei himself appeared, without noise or flare, at the door to Lonan's house. Cordially, he knocked on it. How quaint, the little place seemed. Halexei's emotionless face turned upward to get a good look at his surroundings while he waited for an answer.

It wasn't everyday he made house-calls.

The day was cool, a faint breeze rippling the bare branches of the willow that shaded the small dwelling. Other trees in the orchard that surrounded the small house were in varrying stages of loosing their leaves, adding to the almost firey appearance of the ground, little tufts of green only showing here and there where the multitude of fallen leaves allowed.

The glass slid slightly to one side and a pale muzzle stuck itself out. Cool eyes blinked, looking up at the being who had knocked on her familiar's door. Deciding that he smelt enough like her boy she pulled back, pawing the door open a bit more before trotting over to the bed and nudging it's sole occupant.

A bit of faint rustling and a black wing seemed to simply melt out of the dark covers. Soon it was joined by it's twin. Sitting up, Lonan stretched breifly, patted his familiar on the head and made his way towards the figure at his door. "Yes? Can I help you?"

Halexei looked down as a creature opened the door for him. He didn't greet it, choosing to remain as silent as the creature had to. Instead he stepped inside when the door was opened wide enough for him, and remained there.

There would be no small talk for him.

My name is Halexei, Lonan. It is I who can help you.

The non-expressoin on his face changed slightly, brows furrowing the tniest bit. "Make yourself comfortable then and tell me why you are here."

There was noo demand in his voice, but rather a prompting. Closing the sliding door to keep the chill out he made his way over to the two chairs in the apartment space, waiting for his... guest to pick his preference before taking the other.

Sitting. A convenience Halexei had no use for; but when in Rome, one must do as the Romans do, and so he sat rigidly in the first chair and waited until Lonan was settled into the other. This was all so.. quaint, really. It wasn't his style, but it didn't matter.

As I said, I am here to help you. I brought your soul into this world, Lonan, and I know that you are ready to choose your path in life. Some are not so lucky; they must choose before they have matured. You, however, have proven yourself more than worthy of carving a path through life for yourself.

He had already summoned them before he had been seated, but only now did the three path orbs float lazily into the house, ignoring the common use of a door and simply seeping through the wall. They hovered above Halexei's head, waiting patiently.

You were there to help Gilles become more comfortable with himself, and his powers.

He paused, still and quiet, for quite a few seconds, before continuing.

You were there to give Brownie hope, and gave her much needed comfort and companionship.

Again, another pause, as though he was reviewing information being given to him. After the brief moment, he continued.

You were there to help the young pirate find a solution suitable to everyone in his family. You, Lonan, were there for these people. There was no reason, no gain, you were simply there. It is your companionable and giving nature that will lead you down your chosen path, of this I am sure.

The orbs floated lazily down, settling in front of Halexei.

As one of us, you must make a decision. It is now time for that decision, and you should think on it carefully. You may never, ever turn back on what choice you make here today.

Lonan listened with a practiced ear. A time ago he had believed the voice of Halexi to be naught but a fever-dream. Now though, he knew better and opened his ears in a way that few were privy to.

Once Halexi finished speaking he remained quiet for a few moments, mulling over the words and chouices in his head. One should not rush blindly into such permanent matters. With the possitives that came from any path, so were there negatives.

"I... will confess to not agreeing with the lack of gain. My gain was knowing that I was able to help, even if only in a small way. My gain was being useful." He fell silent again, seeming to order his words carefully. "Should I assume you already know my choice, or that you don't, it is to be useful. 'Evil triumphs when those of good do nothing' to mis-quote. One world already fell away because the balance was upended. I am not one to want darkenss or despair upon another and being neutral will have no effect on the balance save to heighten the fulcrum which is something I cannot myself do and abide. I would walk the path that aides."

He fell silent again after the unusually long speech, waiting to hear the other's judgement.

Halexei smiled. He knew it was safe to do so because Lonan could not see him, and therefore could not be hurt by witnessing emotion on the harbinger's face. Should his familiar be watching as the smile took place, it would very likely turn away to avoid the pain that it caused. But Lonan was safe.

The harbinger smiled because he knew he had made the right decision in coming personally. To speak with the boy, face to face, made things so much easier.

So, you remember much, Lonan. Time has given you insight into the past it seems. Such insight will help you along the way, and so it already has.

As he spoke, the two other orbs backed away while the third, the bright white one that fluttered with gentle wings, lowered gently in front of Lonan. It responded to his presence with a warm, grateful wave of feeling.

Be wary, though you may know what you do, I must once more remind you that you may not turn back. The light knows it's purpose; to push back the darkness.

The orb hovered and turned on it's invisible axis, beckoning silently.

"'Into every life, a little rain must fall.' While the light can always push the darkness back, it cannot completely over come it in a mortal. To do so would be to upend the balance too far. I am not afraid of that. I choose this not because it is easy, I choose it because for me, it is right."

A slow blink, and another slight furrowing of the brows. He could not see expression, but he could... sense them in a way. The shift in posture and aura almost. Any misgivings he may have had about this one as being completely cold or apathetic were gone. For some reason, he felt he could understand why the highest of them kept his emotions cloistered from everyone, and only himself. They were perhaps more similar than he had originally thought.

Wise words. Halexei commented. The orb that will free your soul from the compression it resides in is directly before you. Simply reach out and touch it, and your choice will be made.

The orb vibrated in a way reminiscent to Asrafel when he got overly excited over something. It was all too happy to transform this one, it seemed.

There was a breif flicker of... perhaps it was amusement, over his face when he felt the near trembling of the little orb infront of him. It was almost reminisce of the little ones that filled the barn in the spring, all bright and excited to simply be.

Carefully, almost reverently, he lifted his hand and gently cupped the orb in his palm.

The orb, as warm and inviting as it was, would start to burn in his hands. A sizzling sound would even be heard, which began to course through Lonan's entire body. As painful as it sounded, Lonan would simply melt away into nothing but a shadow, lying black and flat on the ground. Atop the shadow sat the little white orb, bouncing merrily as if it hadn't just melted a man.

Halexei stooped over and gestured with his hand, and the orb hopped up into the air and joined it's brethren. Another gesture, and they flew off through the wall, zooming off to return to their habitat.

Halexei looked down at the shadow, and even now it began to sizzle and bubble at his feet.

Until we meet again, Lonan. He murmured to the puddle, which was reforming into a much larger, stronger looking man. Before it was done, however, Halexei had walked out, and eventually disappeared.

He thought to be concerned when he heard the soft sizzling sound. But the wave of heat that flowed through him canceled that idea. Before he was completely gone his eyes slid closed and he slipped lightly from his chair to the floor.

The shadow made no notice of the other's departure, bubbling and growing as the youth's familiar poked her head up from where she had taken her nap, unconcerned but curious as what she knew changed into something new.

When it was all said and done a much more matured version of Lonan lay on the floor, softly panting for breath. Useless eyes flickered open once and then shut again as the newly grown slipped into restorative sleep.
