who in your opinion has the saddest background out of ALL the characters inany FF? Be Warned there might be major spoilers in this thread

okay, i've gotta say Locke Cole's backstory in Final Fantasy VI was the saddest for me... his entire reason for traveling is so he can find a legendary object that can bring his deceased girlfriend, Rachel, back to life. a year before she died, she and Locke went on a little adventure in a cave. Rachel saved Locke from falling off a rickety bridge and fell, herself. this fall resulted in her acquiring a case of amnesia. a year later, she was mortally wounded in an Imperial attack. Before she died, the last words she said was Locke's name...

For me, I think Vincent and Ashe probably have the saddest backstory. Having the woman you love choose some freak over you, only to have said freak kill and mutate you; all your family dying, along with your husband, and losing your kingdom and being proclaimed dead on top of that... Yup, sucks to be them. xd

I think the saddest storys are Yuna's and Ashe's.

Ashe was a pretty queen(or princess...w/e), anyways. Her husband did all the hard work, then even went to war himself for his own kingdom. But in the end, he was crushed, her kingdom was crushed, and she had to flee and be proclaimed dead. Then she was thrust into death's face...and fought it. She was this nice sweet girl, but then lost all that when she decided to take back her kingdom. In the end, she won, after all that pain and death, she was queen, and she was alive, but most important of all, she was done. She had worked so hard, but finally she beat down all her opposed her, and won her kingdom back. Now all she has to do is live with her husband's memory, but at least she made him happy, she got dalmasca back. crying .

Yuna's was also REALLY REALLY sad, and my most favorite of FF storys ever. First she had to grow up in her teens without a father, because her father wanted her to grow up in a world without sin, so he sacrificed himself for her and spira. Then she set out on the same journey he did, but fell in love with Tidus. She was met with Corruption within Spira's highest government. One girl against the world, this was yuna. She was frightned and scared, but when she finally made it to Zanarkand, she thought she was finished, she thought she would be able to rest. But then she learned that someone needed to die, including herself to stop sin, and not permantly either. So she Told Yunalesca, this high and mighty being, that she couldnt Kill any of her freinds, and that she would find another way to End Sin. Yunalesca would not stand for the breaking of tradition, especially one that she started. They fought, and Yuna won. Now they had no target, they had nothing to look forward too, but only to stop sin. So they did, they figured out what makes The spiral of death turn, and they Stopped it. Yuna finally had did it, she stopped sin, but she lost Tidus, someone she loved dearly. Even after all that suffering and battles, Yuna had saved spira, but lost Tidus. I would have been real sad, because its like she "Couldnt Win for Losing". ya know?

Princess Garnet.

In the begining, her mother was pratically holding her hostage until Tantalus brothers came and 'kidnapped' her. Her mother almost killed her after sending a bomb to stop the air ship. Has the Eidolons drained from her after being captured and left for dead. Watched her mother misuse the Eidolons, wreaking havoc in Lindblum and almost slew her uncle. Remembers her past, in which remembering the large eye in the sky distroying her native home as well as her biological parents and the Eidolons. Watched her mother being attack by Bahumut and die on the beach. Crowned the queen of Alexandria to watch Alexandria be attacked on the same week. Raised Alexander with the help of Eiko, only to watch its demise on her uncles air shp as well as half of the kingdome. Loses her voice. Her arch enemy uses her mothers soul to power himself into trance mode. And nearly lost the boy she comes to love to a rampagin soul dividing tree. Need I say more?

Well I thought the backstory with Angeal and Zack having to kill him (in Crisis Core) was pretty sad. It made me cry. In fact I was waiting for the cinimatics to end so I could save it and turn it off. I was just stunned...you had to kill his friend and mentor...get thanked and given the Buster Sword.

Tidus. Having to face his father and carrying the burden that his father killed inumerous people throughout centuries. You can see how it hurts him, since well.. he cries a lot during the game. I kinda relate. "Yeah...Sin's...my old man." Everyone else: :0

FFX in general has a very sad story, and that is why it is my favorite.

I can empathize with Tidus, but I wouldn't say he's got a very sad backstory compared with some of the others. Yeah, there was Jecht, but otherwise, he had a pretty nice "life," being a professional athlete, and mostly growing up normally. Also, he really doesn't cry an awful lot in the game... Like twice?
